Each year, Alliance Medical provides imaging services to c. 700,000 patients in the UK through three main channels: ◼ Diagnostic Imaging: providing MRI, DEXA, CT, X-ray and ultrasound imaging. ◼ Molecular Imaging: providing PET-CT imaging. ◼ Radiopharmacy: producing radioactive tracers that are central to PET-CT scans. Demand for Diagnostic Imaging in the UK is increasing 10% year on year. We are committed to being a key part of the solution and working with the NHS and private partners to help meet this demand. Diagnostic Imaging Services Alliance Medical makes life easier for hospitals and clinicians. Our managed services are designed to take as much of the management and financial burden from our clients’ shoulders as possible, leaving them free to concentrate on patients and medical outcomes. Candidate Brief – July 2021 Berwick Partners an Odgers Berndtson company ◼ In-house services ◼ Modular buildings National PET/CT Contract In early 2015, NHS England selected a Collaborative Network, led by Alliance Medical, to provide PET - CT scanning services across 30+ locations in England over a period of ten years. As part of the contract, Alliance Medical will invest over £80 million over the life of the contract to improve the current infrastructure. We are also increasing the number of sites at which PET - CT services are delivered. These pledges demonstrate Alliance Medical’s support for NHS England’s objective to optimise patient access and reduce geographical variability (postcode lottery) in the quality of PET - CT infrastructures. In addition to scanning services, the collaborative network will also provide first class training and education for radiologists, technologists and radiographers through a School of Oncology provided by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust whilst also supporting an increase in the number of clinical research trials. The new service commenced on 1st April 2015. The Patient Experience The patient is at the heart of everything Alliance Medical do, therefore the patient journey and their experience is of paramount importance. Our scanning locations are situated in a variety of different settings, including private clinics, NHS hospitals, private network hospital imaging departments, and sometimes a mobile MRI unit. Most appointments are offered within 10 days of receipt of referral into the patient management centre in Warwick, and the nearest location to the patient is always prioritised for bookings. Background to the Role We are looking for a new Head of Operations for our North client base to manage all regional operations and lead the team of Unit Managers. The role will need to ensure that Alliance Medical is achieving contractual performance targets for each client and is providing excellent levels of service to the patient. The role will require strong stakeholder management, both internally and externally. The ideal candidate will have an operational background, be an experienced leader, be confident and personable and be driven to achieve team success. Experience in healthcare is preferred but not essential. 3

The HSO is a member of the UK Operations Executive and Senior Management Team. In support of Alliance Medical Group and UK priorities, the HSO is responsible for: Strategy Development & Delivery ◼ Delivery of operational excellence. ◼ Delivery of regional performance targets across financial and nonfinancial measures. ◼ Researching, proposing and developing the regional strategy (in line with the Group and country strategy) and overall commercial objectives, in consultation with the UK COO. ◼ Defining the regional annual and long-term objectives and agreeing plans to achieve them. ◼ Delivering the regional strategic and commercial objectives across all modalities and delivery channels. I.e. static, modular, PET- Units and working in collaboration with the Heads of Mobile Operations and Head of Private Operations to ensure all territory opportunities are maximised. ◼ Identifying, negotiating and implementing new commercial initiatives with existing and new customer base. Supporting Business Development team, and the Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer in further developing opportunities in region. 4
Candidate Brief – July 2021 Berwick Partners an Odgers Berndtson company Leadership & Development ◼ Leading the local management team, consistent with the regional strategy and commercial objectives agreed by the UK Board. ◼ Working collaboratively with UK Operations Executive to ensure UK targets and objectives are met. ◼ Ensuring that the development needs of the local management team are identified and endeavoured to be met. ◼ Ensuring local managers are supported in delivering operational excellence and productivity within their respective accountabilities. ◼ Developing a regional succession plan for key roles, including that of HSO. ◼ To embody the Alliance Medical values and ensure they are reflected throughout the region. Relationship Management ◼ Developing strong commissioner, customer, and regulator relationships in support of the country and regional strategic objectives and including NHS Trust senior executives, clinical commissioning senior executives, reporting radiologists and referring clinicians, as well as private, research and other health organisations ◼ Building collaborative networks with existing or potential new partners in support of the regional strategic objectives. ◼ Developing and implementing a regional patient engagement framework. ◼ Maintaining an on-going dialogue with all members of the UK Senior Management Team. ◼ Representing and promoting Alliance Medical at regional and national events as appropriate. Governance ◼ Maintaining and protecting the reputation of Alliance Medical. ◼ Ensuring high standards of clinical governance and patient care are maintained, including adherence to external legal and regulatory requirements. For example, the Care Quality Commission. ◼ Ensuring high standards of corporate governance and personal behaviour are maintained. ◼ Ensuring Unit Managers are supported to fulfil their role as Care Quality Commission registered managers. ◼ Ensuring the PET mobile Regional Managers and their teams are supported to fulfil their role to the best of their ability to comply with the requirements of The Care Quality Commission ◼ Ensuring effective financial governance through the efficient use of resources, financial control and financial planning. ◼ Identify key risks and introduce mitigating action plans as appropriate. ◼ Ensuring that appropriate priority is given to providing accurate, clear and timely reports to the UK Board. ◼ Ensuring that the UK COO is alerted to forthcoming complex, contentious or sensitive issues affecting the region of which they might not otherwise be aware. ◼ Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and any subsequent relevant legislation and must follow these in full at all times, including ensuring that they act in line with all agreed procedures at all times in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. ◼ Ensure full compliance with all current AML policies and procedures, local rules and extant legislation, highlighting any changes to operational protocols, procedures and SOPs within own area and contribution to their review. 5
Candidate Brief – July 2021 Berwick Partners an Odgers Berndtson company Job Dimensions – Direct/Indirect Reports and Financial Responsibility Financial / Budgetary Responsibility ◼ Circa £20-25m revenue budget – between NHSE Contract and business as usual operations. ◼ Circa 15 to 20 regional sites. ◼ Circa 100 - 140 management, clinical and non-clinical employees for each region. Decision Making Responsibility ◼ Capital and recruitment decisions (as delegated by the UK Board). ◼ Defining the regional annual and long-term objectives and agreeing plans to achieve them. The Candidate Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience ◼ Graduate level qualifications. ◼ Significant operational experience. ◼ Experience in identifying commercial opportunities, negotiating and administering commercial contracts. ◼ Strong financial understanding, analysis and problem-solving skills. ◼ Strong understanding of both national and regional health sectors including current and future trends. ◼ Previous experience in a senior leadership role working within, or with, the public or independent health sector, including experience of having sold service propositions within the NHS is preferred but not essential. Behavioural Competence ◼ Ability to lead in a geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary healthcare environment and to build, lead and mentor a diverse team. ◼ Strong customer focus with expertise in developing and maintaining effective relationships with diverse stakeholders. ◼ Ability to relate to all levels of management and staff. ◼ Excellent communication and influencing skills. ◼ Experience of successful relationship management with senior NHS executive and consultant staff. 6
