Dear Families and Friends of South Kent, Welcome to the 2019 Annual Harvest Auction and Dinner and Fall Family Weekend! We are so pleased to have you on campus and be a part of this exciting evening. On behalf of the 1923 Board of Trustees, the faculty and staff, and especially our boys, I thank you for supporting South Kent School. We are thankful to the South Kent community, families and our neighbors who have generously contributed so many wonderful items to our auction. We never dreamed we would have so many items! Thank you to the many volunteers who worked so tirelessly on behalf of our boys. Most importantly, thank you for entrusting your boys to us and allowing us to develop young men who can evolve and adapt, be globally competitive and prepared to meet the challenges posed by a world that is evolving and shifting around us at dizzying speed. We are so fortunate to have a large and dedicated force of alumni, family and friends whose generous support, leadership and volunteer involvement provide the margin of excellence that makes the difference between good and extraordinary. CONDITIONS of SALE The property listed in this South Kent School auction catalog will be offered and sold by South Kent School. Any questions should be directed to the school. 1. (a) South Kent School assumes no risk, liability or responsibility for the authen- ticity of the authorship of any property identified in this catalog (that is, the identity of creator of the period, culture, source or origin, as the case may be, with the creation of any property as identified herein). (b) All property is sold “AS IS” and South Kent School makes no representa- tion or warranties of any kind or nature, expressed or implied, with respect to the prop- erty, and in no event shall South Kent School be responsible for the correctness of the catalog, size, quality, rarity or genuineness of the property. No statement in the catalog or made at the sale or in any bill of sale or invoice or elsewhere shall be deemed such a representation or warranty, expressed or implied, as to whether the purchaser acquires any reproduction rights in the property. 2. Any property may be withdrawn by South Kent School at any time before the actual sale. 3. Unless otherwise announced by the auctioneer at the time of sale, all bids are per lot as numbered in the printed catalog. 4. Syndicating is encouraged and accepted. 5. South Kent School reserves the right to reject a bid from any bidder. The highest bid- der acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion either to determine the successful bidder or to offer again and then sell the article in the dispute. If any dis- pute arises after the sale, South Kent School records shall be conclusive in all respects. 6. On the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, the highest bidder shall be deemed to have purchased the offered lot subject to all the conditions set forth herein and thereupon a. assumes full risk and responsibility therefore b. will sign a confirmation of purchases thereof and c. will pay the full purchase price therefore or such part as South Kent School may require. 7. In addition to the above, please note: a. All auction items and services are subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by their donors. Unless otherwise stated, the time limit on any service, vacation home 9
or restaurant is one year from the date of the auction. b. All vacations, tickets, restaurants, services and “bidder’s choice” items are subject to availability on the date when the reservations or selections are made. We recommend that reservations be made as early as possible. c. Unless otherwise noted, all taxes and gratuities are the responsibility of the winning bidder. d. Payment may be made by check, cash, VISA, MasterCard or American Express and must be made in full on the evening of the auction. e. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds. f. Unless otherwise noted liquor is not included in restaurant donations. g. In the case of an absentee bidder, a committee member will actively bid on your behalf. Bidding will be terminated once the absentee bidder’s top value has been reached. h. SILENT and LIVE AUCTION RULES 1. The silent auction will begin at 6:00 p.m. on and will continue until 7:30 p.m. 2. Upon arrival, each bidder will be given a bid number. All items will have a bid sheet. Persons wanting to make a bid must do so by writing their bid number next to the amount they wish to bid on the bid sheet for that item. Items will have a minimum open- ing bid as well as a minimum allowed bid increase. 3. No bid may be crossed out!!! 4. There will be a warning five minutes before each section of the Silent Auction is to end. No bids may be placed after the final call. 5. Results of the silent auction will be available by 8:00 p.m. 6. The live auction will begin after dinner and continue until all items are auctioned. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer shall be deemed the purchaser. 7. The successful bidder on all silent and live auction items must take payment in full at the end of the evening at the cashier’s desk. Payment may be made by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. 8. Check-out will begin promptly after the conclusion of the Live Auction. 9. Please note carefully the limitations and/or exclusions and expiration dates on trips and similar offerings; typically they are one year, unless otherwise noted. It is the buyer’s responsibility to initiate contact with the donor on such items to arrange for their use. 10. In the event of a dispute, the Auction Committee or Auctioneer shall have the sole and final discretion to determine the winning bidder. All sales are final and there will be no exchanges or refunds. 11. All items and certificates must be picked up on the night of the auction and in the event items are not so removed, neither South Kent School nor the Auction Committee will have any responsibility or liability with respect thereto. 11
