Message From The Dean
‘SELAMAT DATANG’ and welcome to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). This
guideline provides in brief the important information you need to know to plan
your academic activities.
To ensure a smooth academic journey at the university, we advise you to acquaint
yourself with the post graduate Academic Rules and Regulations, IGS Process and
Procedures for Research and Coursework programmes and Guidelines on Thesis/
Dissertation Format for Post Graduate Programme. All these are available online
and can be downloaded via student portal under i-library section in i-learn portal.
IGS conducts numerous workshops, talks and seminars during the semester. To
keep abreast with the latest information and academic announcements you are
advised to regularly visit IGS website at www.ipsis.uitm.edu.my. All IGS activities
require you to register online via the website. While you are busy checking IGS
activities and reading our announcements, please ensure you update on your
faculty’s activities and deadlines as well.
We hope that your postgraduate journey will be a smooth and enjoyable one
filled with warm memories partnered with good academic results. Have a good

Introduction
UiTM takes pride in its establishment as one of the premier institutions of higher
education in the country. Although the history of UiTM dates back to 1956, the
genesis and growth of the Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS) can be traced to April 1997. It
was the passing and ratification of the ITM Act in 1976/1997/1999 that laid the foundation
for the establishment of IGS. Although being relatively new, the Institute prides itself as
being progressive, dynamic and innovative in fulfilling its aims of providing opportunities for
Bumiputera graduates to further their education at the Master’s and Doctoral levels.
This thus endorses its vision of engendering academic excellence and being at the forefront
of graduate academic advancement. In striving to raise the levels of professional graduate
education, it is the Institute’s mission to nurture the creation of a graduate learning community
by providing educational opportunities that would help to push its frontiers for societal well-
being.
IGS operates as the nerve-centre of graduate-level education in the institution and is
responsible for the implementation and management of overall administration. It coordinates
and formulates policies on admission and academic regulations, as well as provides support
to facilitate research and learning among postgraduate students.

Every individual has the ability to attain excellence through the transfer of knowledge
and assimilation of moral values so as to become professional graduates capable of

To establish UiTM as a premier university of outstanding scholarship and academic
excellence capable of providing leadership to Bumiputeras’s dynamic involvement in
all professional fields of world-class standards in order to produce globally competitive
graduates of sound ethical standing.
Mission
To enhance the knowledge and expertise of Bumiputeras in all fields of study through
professional programmes, research work and community service based on moral values
and professional ethics.
Objectives
• To provide maximum opportunities for Bumiputeras to pursue professionally-
recognised programmes of study in science, technology, industry, business, arts
and humanities.
• To provide quality and innovative programmes of study relevant to current market
needs and customer demands, and in line with policies of national development.
• To establish a human resource development programme as a tool for the assimilation
of a value system within the university community.
• To ensure that UiTM graduates are adequately prepared to join the local as well as the
global workforce.
• To establish UiTM as a centre of excellence that is accountable for the effective and
efficient management of its human resources, finances and assets in order to achieve
its educational objectives, while playing its role as a catalyst in community

The Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS) of Universiti Teknologi MARA was established
in April 1997, with the aim of strengthening the University’s graduate programmes. It’s
motto, vision, mission and objectives are as stated below:

To be at the forefront of scholarship that enhances academic advancement at the
graduate level, in the pursuit of academic excellence and world class standards of
graduate education.
Mission
To nurture and develop a scholarly and knowledge-seeking learning community that
explores all forms and frontiers of knowledge through higher degrees.
Objectives
• To provide opportunities for Bumiputera graduates to further their education at
Master’s and Doctoral Levels.

Course Registration (Coursework Programmes)
Course Registration Process for NEW and RETURNING STUDENTS
STEP 1
COURSE REGISTRATION
1. Login to Student Portal through UiTM website (http://www.uitm.edu.my)
2. Enter STUDENTS Student Portal Login
3. For LOGIN ID - enter Student Matrix No
PASSWORD - enter Identification Card Number/ Passport
4. Enter the Course Registration Screen.
5. Enter REGISTER NEW COURSES.
6. Enter related group for the subject to register.
7. Choose a group for each course (confirm with faculty on the group and check the time
table to avoid clashes).
Note: a) Students with credit hours exceeding the maximum limit will be blocked from
choosing groups. Please drop courses with higher codes first to comply with the
maximum number of credit hours.
b) Please ensure that all your pre-registration course(s) (selected during pre-
registration process) are grouped accordingly.
c) Courses which are not grouped will be dropped automatically by the system
after the last date of addition/dropping of courses.
8. Print and keep the printout of the Temporary Course Registration Slip. Reprint and keep the
slip each time you make any changes to your course registration.
STEP 2
VALIDATION OF REGISTERED COURSES
1. Login to Student Portal.
2. Enter the Validation of Course Registration screen.
3. Check that there are no appropriate courses left unregistered and that all the registered
courses are correct.
4. Click the Validation button.
Note: Students who have NOT PAID the tuition fees will be blocked from performing the
validation process of course registration.
5. Print and keep the printout of the Course Registration Information (the final copy) for your
future reference.
Note :
• Refer to UiTM’s academic calendar and adhere to important dates and deadlines
of academic activities such as course registration, validation of registered courses, change of
programme mode, etc.
• A student’s candidature will be terminated if he/she fails to pay tuition fees and/or to
register for courses.

Financial Aids For Postgraduate Students

This UiTM Postgraduate Teaching Assistant Scheme provides
financial aid for the students to support their studies. The

assistants for a maximum of six hours with RM25 per hour wage.

10) through MyBrain15 Programme for funding the studies at

MyPhD created under the 10th Malaysia Plan (RMK-10) through 03-8888 0032

achieve the target of 60,000 among the PhD holders from https://biasiswa.moe.gov.my/
Malaysia by the year 2023. The scholarship covers tuition fees MyBrain15/index_myphd.php
and monthly allowances.
Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS)
The Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative 03-8870 6000 / 03-8888 0058 /
by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from 03-8888 0032
around the world to pursue advanced academic studies
in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian https://biasiswa.mohe.gov.my/

MyBrainSc scholarship is open to all Malaysian citizens who

Skim Pembiayaan Pendidikan PTPTN
PTPTN Education Loan Scheme was established to give
educational loans to students studying at Higher Education 03-2080 4455
Institutions (HEIs) local. This funding will allow students to pay
full or partial tuition fees and living costs during the period of http://www.ptptn.gov.my/web/
their studies at university. Thus, the scheme is open up more guest/anjung
opportunities for all groups of students to pursue higher
