CATHOLIC CHARITIES BROOKLYN and QUEENS Dear Friends of Catholic Charities, The image on the cover of Poor for the Poor: The Mission of the Church, written by Cardinal Gerhard Muller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, is a portrayal of the Good Samaritan. The message of the story of the Good Samaritan as told by Jesus calls us to the care of the unfortunate in our midst. The story also reminds us that it is necessary to change the focus of our institutions so they can be effective and efficient in serving those with physical and emotional needs. In this Annual Report, I am happy to share with you how Catholic Charities here in Brooklyn and Queens is restructuring itself to meet the needs of our clients in the 21st Century. As you read through the report, you will come in contact with those we serve, families and children, senior citizens, those afflicted by emotional and psychological difficulties, formerly homeless individuals, young people struggling to find their place in this new world, and all, like the victim in the story of the Good Samaritan, in need of assistance. In their name and the name of the dedicated staff of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, I want to thank you for your support enabling us to act in the image of the Good Samaritan. Sincerely, “...it is necessary to change the focus of our institutions so they Reverend Monsignor Alfred P. LoPinto God of Mercy; can be effective and efficient in President & CEO People of Mercy serving those with physical and emotional needs.” Rev. Msgr. Alfred P. LoPinto CCBQ.ORG 2016 ANNUAL REPORT 5
