ISSUE 2 TERM 3 GHS NEWS CHEERFULNESS WITH INDUSTRY A MESSAGE FROM ACTING PRINCIPAL CATHY TRODD What a whirlwind of a term this has been! One can hardly credit that it is already the end of the term and that we are preparing for the farewells and exams of the fourth quarter. I am certain that you will enjoy looking back at some of the events of the past term, captured in the many pictures on our school social media sites, the GHS website and in this newsletter. There have been so many highlights and wonderful activities, both in sport, on the cultural scene and in the classroom. We celebrate the successes of our girls. In terms of infrastructure upgrades, our hedge along the Alexandra Road length of the school is already sprouting thanks to our drip-feed system of irrigation and our borehole water, and the second stage of the water harvesting programme is underway. Our boarders in Acacia wing are loving their revamped living quarters, and the school buildings and facilities were in mint condition for our joyful Reunion Day. Along with all that was good, however, was the shock of the sudden death of Khwezi Mbana, one of our Grade 9 learners, in August. Our school community was deeply saddened by this tragedy. We paid tribute to Khwezi in a Memorial Service at school and a number of staff and learners attended her funeral in Ladysmith. Khwezi will live on in our hearts and in the fond memories of her friends. As we enter the final quarter of the year, please support your daughters as they prepare for their final examinations, whether they will be writing their NSC examinations or are in Grade 8. Encourage a balanced lifestyle with plenty of exercise, healthy eating, sufficient sleep and time for relaxation along with the hard work. I wish you all a pleasant holiday and look forward to all that the new term will bring.
