THANK YOU FOR SHOWING INTEREST IN BECOMING MORE INVOLVED IN BASCA. As busy songwriters and composers, we understand what it takes to give your time to BASCA, to work together on behalf of our members; but you join a vibrant and enthusiastic community. BASCA is an organisation run by its members. Every 3 years, the BASCA membership elect individuals to represent them on one of our four Genre Committees. This year, members are also able to vote for 6 directly elected Board members, who do not have to sit on a Genre Committee. Crispin Hunt Chair of BASCA As a member of the BASCA Genre Committee or Board you can now have a direct influence on the position that we take and the campaigns we launch. BASCA’s Board and Genre Committees serve our members by bringing important issues to the table – issues that affect all writers, and issues that you experience every working day. BASCA is unique because we represent all genres of music writing in the UK. We have excellent connections with other similar organisations throughout Europe and the wider world – but most importantly our agenda is set by our members. Welcome to BASCA! With a mission to ‘celebrate, support and protect’ we have a very wide remit….but need you, the professional songwriters and composers, to lead and drive the campaigns on the issues that creators are facing. Anything from attending meetings, speaking on panels, developing campaigns, networking with your fellows at one of our fabulous events, award ceremonies or parties….being a BASCA committee or board member is as interesting and varied as it is important. We have a small but experienced, committed and enthusiastic team of staff here at Vick Bain CEO of BASCA BASCA to help you in that mission. Over the past few years we have helped the committees develop and deliver over 50 bespoke events for thousands of members all over the UK, taken committee/board members to parliament for dozens of individual meetings and events with MPs and MEPs so we can lobby on causes specific to writers and ensured that songwriters and composers are at the core of the decision making processes in our world-class music award ceremonies. I look forward to continuing this fundamental work in helping you help BASCA be THE voice of music writers! Genre Committee and Board Elections Handbook 3
