Dear Parents/Guardians:

I hope you and your families are doing well during this unprecedented period in our history. I would
like to extend a huge thank-you to all of you for supporting us in providing learning opportunities to
your children during this time. I know that the use of the family computer and telephone as a form of
schooling can pose difficulties for many of us. This is a new and changing situation for everyone and I
assure you that we are trying to make the best decisions possible in a very uncertain time.

The teachers and support staff have been unwavering in the commitment to ensure your children, our
students, have every opportunity to feel supported and continue to learn and grow even though the
school building is closed. Teachers have set up Google classrooms so that your children can continue
to learn and connect with their teachers and classmates. Packages of work were compiled and picked
up or delivered to students without Internet access. Our Guidance Counsellor, Social Worker and
School Psychologist are also available to support our students, on-line or on the phone. They will be
reaching out to you and your children over the next few months. All of our staff emails are listed on
our webpage if you wish to touch base with anyone at the school please do so.

The Premier has made many announcements regarding school closure over the past week. An
important message the government has put forth is that all students continue to be engaged with their
learning from home. Students will have the opportunity over the next few months to improve their
marks from their last report card; just as important as the mark is the opportunity to stay connected to
learning, so not to fall behind in their studies.

We are making plans for the contents of the student’s lockers to be bagged up and labelled. We will
be contacting families with an assigned time to come and pick-up these belongings. At this time, we
are not allowed to have anyone in the building so we will be in touch to arrange a scheduled time in
the upcoming weeks.

We will be updating our school webpage on a regular basis with news from the Division. The Division
website also has many valuable resources and links that may be helpful during this difficult time.

It is so important that we stay connected and reassure our children and each other that this will pass
and we will get through it together.

Stay well and stay in touch

G. McLean

You may not control all of the events that happen to you, but you can
decide not to be reduced by them.

COVID-19 - How to Access Food
*Effective March 25, 2020
Please read carefully.
We are striving to ensure all Manitobans who need it have access to
emergency, temporary food support. To stretch our resources and serve an anticipated larger number of
clients, we are preparing large food hampers to be delivered through our network of community food
banks and partner organizations, more than 300 across Manitoba.
This larger, food hamper will provide food support for 10-14-days, the same amount of time as the rec-
ommended quarantine period, over a 4-week period. For existing clients, it will replace our regular pro-
vision of 3 days of food every two weeks with food support for 10-14-days over 4 weeks. Details regard-
ing what’s included in the hampers appears below.
It is important to note that our ability to produce hampers is based on contributions from retail part-
ners, food drives and other donations. In the event of food shortages, we may have to revise the size or
contents of our food hampers.
*Any updates to this process will be posted on the website - https://winnipegharvest.org/need-help/need-
food/

Applying for Employment Insurance
Important Notice
Employment Insurance (EI) provides temporary income support to people who have become unem-
ployed through no fault of their own and are actively looking for work, as well as people who are not
working due to special circumstances, such as illness, becoming a parent or caring for a sick relative.
Service Canada handles the processing of EI claims and benefit payments. This document is intended
for individuals who have become unemployed and its aim is to assist those individuals to apply for EI
benefits.

When to apply
Apply for EI benefits as soon as you stop working. You do not need to wait for your Records of Employ-
ment to submit your EI application.

Submitting an application
To submit an application, visit Canada.ca. Select Employment Insurance and leave, and then click on the
type of benefits that best suits your situation. Finally, follow the instructions to start your online applica-
tion to claim EI benefits.
At the end of the online application process, you will be presented with a confirmation page. It contains a
lot of useful information, including the next steps. Take some time to read it.

Submitting your Records of Employment
Missing Records of Employment can delay the processing of your claim.
Paper Records of Employment: If your employer uses paper Records of Employment, you
must obtain copies of your Record(s) of Employment from all employers you have worked for during the
last 52 weeks. After you submit your application online, you must mail or submit the first part (employee’s
copy) of the paper Record(s) of Employment in-person to a Service Canada Centre as soon as possible
so that your application can be processed. The mailing address of the Service Canada Centre to which
you should send the Record(s) of Employment will be displayed at the end of the online application pro-
cess.

Electronic Records of Employment: Electronic Records of Employment include a serial num-
ber beginning with W, S or Y. If your employer sends the Record of Employment electronically to Service
Canada, they do not have to provide you with a copy because a copy has been electronically submitted
to Service Canada. However, you can retrieve the Record of Employment and print them using My Ser-
vice Canada Account.

Next Steps
To receive the benefits for which you may be entitled, you must submit a report every two weeks. Failure
to do so can mean a loss of benefits. There are two options available to complete and submit your re-
ports:
1. You may use the Internet Reporting Service by visiting the website at Canada.ca, then select Employ-
ment Insurance and leave.

2. You may also use the Telephone Reporting Service by dialing 1-800-531-7555.

site. It is fast, easy, useful and secure. If you have a current or a previous employment insurance claim,

information for direct deposit;

View and print :
   your EI tax slips (T4Es).

Additional information:
Reactivating your EI claim
If you started a new claim for EI benefits within the past 52 weeks, and there are weeks still payable on
that file, you must submit an online application to renew (reactivate) your claim.
In some circumstances, it could be more advantageous to terminate a claim and create a new one be-
cause this may increase the amount of your benefits or the length of your benefit period. If you prefer to
terminate your existing claim and begin another one, you must first contact us by calling 1-800-206-
7218.
Your decision to terminate a claim is final and cannot be changed. Here are some points for considera-
tion to help you make a decision:
Have you worked since the start of that existing claim?
Have you worked enough insurable hours to meet the qualifying requirements for a new claim?
Do you know that there is a waiting period of one (1) week for which you will not be paid on a new
claim?

If, for any reason, your claim cannot be reactivated, your application will be considered as a new claim.
Peer Support
The Peer Support Service supports people emotionally and practically through mental health
challenges. It is based in the belief that having lived experience creates a bridge for empathy and
understanding, building a mutually beneficial relationship. Peer Support is provided by a peer,
someone who has experienced mental health challenges and is able to offer encouragement and
hope through a recovery lens. Our peer support facilitator is trained and certified in peer support.

Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba (ADAM)
The Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba (ADAM) has been providing services and support to Manitobans with anxiety
disorders and their families, and education and information to the public about anxiety disorders, for over 30 years. All of our
staff and volunteers have personal, lived experience with anxiety, have overcome the disabling effects of anxiety, and are now
sharing that information and experience with others. We receive expert, on-going, current input from professionals in the
field. ADAM recognizes that there is an increase in anxiety in the general public at this time due to the COVID19 virus, and we
 are here to help.

We have established an anxiety support line for anyone seeking support during this challenging time. Beginning Monday, March
23, people are invited to call our support line at 204-925-0040. The line will be checked regularly between the hours of 9:00 a.m.
and 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekends. People are asked to leave their name, phone
number or email address and an ADAM representative will get in touch with them within a short period of time.

Alternatively, people can also call our general office number at 204-925-0600 and leave a message, or email us
at adam@adam.mb.ca Relevant information can also be found on our website at www.adam.mb.ca or our Facebook page.

The support line is not a crisis line. People experiencing a crisis should go to the Crisis Response Centre, the nearest hospital
emergency department, or call the Klinic Crisis Line, the Mobile Crisis Team, or Emergency services at 911.

COVID-19 | Residential Tenancies and
Evictions
March 20, 2020

The Residential Tenancies Branch (RTB) has issued some details through Client Ser-
vices. Effective immediately, the Branch will not be scheduling new hearings. However,
the Branch has stated that it is following through with currently scheduled hearings, medi-
ations, and Orders of Possession. Some new Orders of Possession may be considered
in the immediate future. No public statement has been released by the Branch.
These actions are out of line with other national and international jurisdictions. Right to
Housing and Make Poverty History Manitoba have called for a halt of ALL evictions until
proper financial supports are in place. From their press release:
“Evicting people into homelessness during this pandemic goes against the calls of our
provincial state of emergency related to social distancing and protecting public health.
The Residential Tenancies Branch must suspend all hearings, including mediated agree-
ments, that may result in evictions.”

Contact your local MLA to push the Department of Justice to address evictions at the
RTB. Also copy the Premier and the Minister of Justice.
