Dear Members of the Garden City School Community, District Administration Administration Building 56 Cathedral Avenue Welcome to the start of the 2021-22 school year! While Garden City, NY 11530 we are still contending with the COVID-19 pandemic, I am 516-478-1000 committed to providing as “normal” a school year as possible for all Garden City students. We are eager to welcome Kusum Sinha, Ed.D. our children back for full-time, in-person instruction in Superintendent of Schools September. And while we all must still adhere to certain health and safety protocols, I am looking forward to a successful year ahead in Dana DiCapua partnership with our entire school community. Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance For the upcoming year, I hope to continue an open dialogue with parents, Nanine McLaughlin students and staff. Your involvement last year was instrumental in how our Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development district adjusted its educational plan. I hope to introduce different ways to engage the community this year so that you have additional avenues for Edward Cannone, Ed.D. offering your input and feedback. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction For 2021-22, we are also committed to applying certain lessons we learned Rita Melikian, Ed.D. throughout the past year and a half to our educational program. Board of Education 2021-2022 www.gardencity.k12.ny.us About the Board Garden City Public School’s Board of Education members are elected by the residents for three- year terms, and serve without pay in the school district, which is a political subdivision of the State of New York. Board members set goals, establish policy for the school system, and carry out the directives and decisions of the New York State Department of Education. Some of their responsibilities include prescribing courses of study; reviewing, presenting and overseeing the school budget; levying taxes in accordance with law; contracting and employing staff; setting school boundary lines; providing school sites and buildings; purchasing fuel, furniture and other necessities for use in school buildings; and providing student transportation. The Board of Education is responsible for the efficient management of the schools and appoints the Superintendent of Schools as its chief administrative officer to make recommendations concerning the above activities and to carry out the decisions and policies of the Board. The Role of the Public Members of the public are welcome at all Regular Board of Education meetings, and the Board encourages the public to attend. The Board generally holds two meetings per month. Regular Meetings are held once a month at 8:15 p.m. The calendar of Regular Meetings is listed below; the meeting locations, topics and audio recordings of all public meetings are available on the district website under the “Board William C. Holub Stefanie Granville of Education” drop-down. The option for public participation is included at Regular Meetings. Guidelines President Vice President for public participation are available on the “Board of Education” drop-down. Work Sessions are also open to the public and are held once per month.
