P 3 – Cirque and amphitheatre The theatre is an awe- inspiring sight to discover time and time again in its high mountain setting. Every summer, a high altitude theatre festival - a unique artistic experience – takes place in the heart of the fabulous Cirque de Gavarnie, at the gateway to the Pyrenees National Park! we love Les Halles de Lourdes (covered market), located in the city centre, is the perfect example of metallic architecture from the late 19th century. grands sites Cauterets Cauterets is a mountain town par excellence, one of the jewels of the entire massif, nestled in its summits setting, with architecture recounting its powerful beauty in the 19th century. Upstream from the famous spa town of Cauterets, the Pont d'Espagne provides access to untouched pristine nature within the realms of the Pyrenees National Park. The dense green forests compete with the bubbling torrents and waterfalls, the sparkling lakes and the majestic summits transport every hiker. The Pont d'Espagne site Located just 7 km from Cauterets, the Pont d 'Espagne, classified as a “Grand Site Occitanie” (Major Occitanie site), is the ideal place for a refreshing day out. The 15 minutes journey from Cauterets to the site is nothing short of amazing, lined with many babbling waterfalls along the way. Once there, the 10-minute walk to the waterfall and the famous Spanish Bridge is a pleasure to take: you cross small walkways, enjoy the spray from the waterfalls and take in the breath-taking scenery that awaits you. Af- ter a 15 minutes chairlift ride, you reach the Gaube viewpoint from where you can enjoy a superb panorama. An easy 15-minute walk then takes you to the famous lake. The hard work is over with! Looking for small animals What would the Pyrenees be like without its wildlife? Naked or feathe- red, the animals that inhabit the area are an integral part of the Py- renean landscape and one of the many reasons why it is se revered. From the Isard to the Bearded Vulture not forgetting the marmot or the Pyrenean trout, they all coexist in this rich and green ecosystem where the water is alive and the mountains are as one.
