2 Call for Proposals I MPORTANT DATE S ( 20 18) Proposal Deadline: January 27 Notification of Acceptance: February 17 Confirmation of Acceptance: March 3 Registration Deadline: April 30 Online Rehearsals: May and June WHAT I S F US ION ? Fusion is a chance for educators from around the world to come together and share ideas that will shape the future of learning. Driving progress and better outcomes for learners starts with sharing knowledge and best practices. This is your chance to join the conversation and make sure your voice is heard. WHY P RES EN T? This is your opportunity to share new ideas, pedagogical practices, or highlight noteworthy projects, research and practices with your peers. Presenting at Fusion will earn you recognition as an expert in online learning at the conference and beyond. All presenters are eligible for a discounted presenter registration rate. P RE SE NT ER G UIDE L IN ES You will need to create an Events Portal Account prior to creating your proposal. You do not have to write and submit all in one sitting; you can start your proposal, save it and come back later to update. (Please note: once you submit your proposal for review, you cannot make further changes.) Preference will be given to proposals on the suggested topics below. You will need to create an Events Portal Account prior to creating your proposal. Presenters from different organizations are encouraged to present together. All co-presenters must actively participate in the presentation. D2L will conduct correspondence with the lead presenter, and it is the lead presenter’s responsibility to coordinate with co-presenters. No changes to presenters can be made after April 30. Presenters are responsible for paying the discounted registration fee by the deadline of April 30. Presenters are responsible for securing and paying for personal travel and lodging. IT EMS OF N OTE Re commend e d Top ics Fusion is an opportunity to celebrate innovation and pedagogical advances. The Fusion program will touch on such hot topics and trends in ed-tech and the future of learning. With this in mind, a recommended list of topics within each track has been created. Preference will be given to proposals that touch on the suggested topics provided below. 3 TR ACK S In s t ru ct ion an d Desig n Educators and the people who support them continue to strive to improve the achievement of student learning outcomes. These innovations and quality improvement efforts continue to add to the portfolio of effective practices in online education. This track will include both client-led and D2L-led sessions relevant to teachers, faculty, and trainers, and the people who support them such as instructional designers, instructional technologists, librarians, and accessibility advocates. Recommended Topics: Active learning techniques Blended learning Competency-based education design Course design and quality rubrics Data analytics for instruction Flipped classrooms Gamification of student learning Open courses Personalized learning Social media for learning Student engagement techniques Web accessibility for online course design Te ch n i ca l a n d De ve lop men t The ever-growing importance of technical expertise will be on full display in the sessions offered in this track. Brightspace site administrators, IT support professionals, and developers will share the technical aspects of supporting online learning, innovative developments with Brightspace Valence, and effective practices for user support. 4 L e ad er sh i p an d St rat e g y Engage with industry thought leaders, senior educational leaders, and D2L subject matter experts in a comprehensive review of key topics and customer case studies, as well as in-depth discussion periods. In this track, Brightspace invites colleagues committed to transforming their institutions to share their leadership perspectives, organizational processes, and staff development programs in an effort to help all attendees facilitate institutional change and continue to make significant progress in improving learning outcomes. Recommended Topics: Accreditation for online programs Competency-based learning programs Data analytics for institutional reporting Developing and growing online programs Faculty or course evaluation Legal and policy issues Student recruitment and retention Proctoring and student authentication Professional development for online educators On l in e P r ese n tat ion R eh ea r sa l Presenters will be asked to do a brief version of their presentation with the review committee prior to Fusion. This will be via an online meeting, and an expert presenter will be on the review committee. Presenters are asked to ensure that they have their slide deck prepared in April as minimal notification will be given prior to the online rehearsal being scheduled. Items to Consider When Putting Together Your Proposal P RE SE NT ATION TITL E (maximum 100 characters) This is an opportunity to catch the attendee’s eye. AB STR ACT (maximum 350 characters) The abstract is the description to be used in the program and online for attendees to understand what the session will be about. Be consistent and use style! P RE SE NT ATION D ESC RI PT ION (maximum 3,000 characters) This section is designed for you to share the content of your presentation with the Review Committee. The more detailed your explanation, the better the Committee will be able to understand your intentions. 5 P RE SE NT ATION FOR MAT S Standard Presentation (50 minutes) Allows you to present your topic in a traditional classroom or theatre-style setting. Roundtable Discussion (50 minutes) Facilitators/presenters are asked to prepare questions and drive discussions that give and receive feedback, drive in-depth debates, or share similar interests with peers in a round-table setting. Lightning Round Presentation (15 minutes) Three 15 minute presentations delivered by different speakers in a single 50 minute session in a traditional classroom or theatre-style setting. Allows you to do a brief presentation of your topic, sharing the session time-slot with other presenters. Poster Presentation/Course Showcase (1 hour) Poster Presentations are unveiled during the conference-wide Showcase held in the conference Exhibit Hall.
