WSSRA enriching lives through recreation As an extension of the NORTH RIVERSIDE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT, DEPARTMENT, WSSRA offers our residents therapeutic recreation programs for persons with disabilities, of all ages and ability levels. WSSRA programs are designed and supervised by Recreation Specialists who have educational backgrounds in working with persons with disabilities. Activities are adapted to allow all participants to be successful. Programs include fitness, art, swim Special Olympics, social, camp and excursion programs. Participants gain skills, make friends, increase self-confidence, visit new places and have fun in WSSRA programs! A LEKOTEK family based toy lending/play program is also available. SPECIAL EVENTS It’s back! Fall Flea Market Clean out your basements, attics and garages and sell your “precious treasures” at our annual Fall Flea Market. Set-up begins at 6:30am. Space is approximately the size of a parking spot. Note: Vendors must provide their own tables and chairs, and/or tents. Buy one or more spaces, if you’d like! This event will be held rain or shine in the front parking lot of the Police Station and Village Commons Front Lawn. A Goodwill truck will be in the lot after the flea market, if you wish to donate your unsold items. SPECIAL EVENTS Lightning McSpeedway RC Race Day Grab your remote control car, charge up your batteries and head to the Rec! The day will be filled with fun races with all types of vehicles. We encourage novice racers of all ages to join us, and we will set aside a few timeslots for serious “drivers” with more professional cars. Racers will be grouped by the age of the driver. Each driver will compete in 3 heats. Winners will receive medals, but everyone will have a blast! Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase while you watch the action. SPECIAL EVENTS Holiday Card Collection Join us in our collection of cards for our loved ones who are protecting us in the Armed Forces. We will be collecting home- made and store bought cards that you have signed and/or written a message in to send to our military friends and family members who will not be able to be home for the holidays. We will not be collecting blank cards. All cards must be turned in to the Recreation Office by November 2. Thank you for your support. Free Family Event! Village Tree Lighting Ceremony Wednesday, December 1 • 6–7:15pm Celebrate the holidays with friends and family at the Village of North Riverside Tree Lighting Celebration. Enjoy holiday music, refreshments, lights, Santa Claus and Fireworks! Tree Lighting at 7pm sharp! Breakfast with Santa What a magical morning it will be! We will indulge in delicious pancakes, savory sausage, sweet juice and hot coffee. Games will be played during the meal with extra fun on the side. The kids will meet with the Man himself, Santa Claus, and of course his favorite elf, Buddy! Bring your own camera to take pictures of the sentimental moments. Each child will receive a special gift from the North Pole. Children 2 years and under are free. Fee includes 3 pancakes, 2 sausages, and juice/coffee per person, a gift from Santa, crafts and games. EARLY CHILDHOOD PRESCHOOL SUPPLEMENTAL Preschool Pals Bring your lunch and join us for an extended day of learning PROGRAMS and fun. We will be adding in some additional science and math activities as well as going outside (weather permitting) for some KINDER KOLLEGE 2021-2022 extra fresh air and nature exploration. This class is only available (Includes lunchtime with friends!) for children already enrolled in our T/Th Preschool Program. Our fun-filled Kinder Kollege after-school program is for Ages: 3-4 years children enrolled in morning Junior Kindergarten and Days: Tuesday & Thursday Kindergarten programs. This half-day program will engage Time: 11 :30am-2:30pm children in activities and serve as an extension of the Location: Preschool Room kindergarten curriculum strengthening their academic success.
