Strung across northern England from the Irish Sea to the North Sea are three remarkable national parks, and our ambitious hike traverses all three: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. In 1971, the great walker and author Alfred Wainwright created a 180-mile-long hike across these landscapes. We’ll take in half of his 12 stages, combining the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District, the grandeur of the Dales, and the rugged wilderness and coastal splendour of North Yorkshire. Along the way, we’ll enjoy daily picnic lunches, the comforts of country hotels and inns, and the company of Anglophile and comparative literature professor Linda Paulson. Join us on the trail! Nothing puts you more in touch with a place than hiking the paths and trails that etch its landscapes. Starting out on a Travel/Study hike, you’re guided by experts who really know the lay of the land. You also hike with our carefully chosen faculty leader, a Stanford scholar who offers valuable educational insights along the way. We go the extra mile. Enjoy al fresco lunches starring a region’s bounty and stay in the best of delightful inns and historic hotels, while our staff tends to every detail. COVER: YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK
