All students of Fremantle College receive a quality education based on the WA Curriculum. The College directs its efforts towards keeping costs as low and as equitable as possible. The following information is provided in the hope of making the Contributions and Charges structure clear for parents and caregivers. General Information In Years 7 and 8 students are provided with a set timetable including compulsory learning subjects as well as the opportunity to experience a range of elective subjects in The Arts (Music/Visual Art) and Technologies (Design & Tech/Home Ec/Digital Technologies). This is with the exception of students who are in Specialist Programs. In Years 9 and 10 students complete English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Science and Health and Physical Education, and their choice of elective subjects. Students may choose low cost electives that fit within the voluntary contribution, however, can also choose subjects that attract a compulsory charge. This is with the exception of students who are in Specialist Programs. In Years 11 and 12 students are able to select from a range of subjects, all of which attract a compulsory charge as per Department of Education policy. The charges incurred depend upon the courses chosen. Some specific courses will incur higher costs dependent upon such items as text books, subject specific resources, materials, excursions, certificates and work placement. Courses over $100.00 require payment of half the cost prior to the end of the 2020 school year. Students involved in work placement must pay the associated fees prior to commencement of the work placement. Specialist Programs The Specialist Programs of Marine, ICT, Contemporary Music, Performing Arts Academy and AFL Academy are offered at Fremantle College and incur compulsory charges over and above the voluntary contribution for a nominal curriculum choice. These charges cover items such as resources and activities that are a requirement of the course. If you accept a place in our Specialist or Academy programs, you are also accepting the appropriate charge and should pay 50% prior to the end of the 2020 school year. The balance is due in Term 1 2021. Specialist Programs Uniform Requirements: Music Specialist and Performing Arts Academy students require a black polo shirt, available through Uniform Concepts – anticipated cost of $29.50 Marine Specialist students require a Rash shirt which can be ordered through the school – anticipated cost $35.00. Staff will arrange fittings and orders. AFL Academy students require a playing jersey, shorts, socks, dress polo shirt, training shirt and a spare jersey through the school. – anticipated cost $130.00. Staff will arrange fittings and orders. 1
Voluntary Contributions and Charges Voluntary Contributions cover the basic subject costs in Years 7 to 10. The payment of this $235.00 amount assists the College to provide a higher standard of educational resources for your child including the provision of modern texts and equipment for students. Fremantle College urges you to pay this portion to enable the college to provide your child with the education we believe they deserve. Compulsory Charges cover the cost of the specialist programs that students may be accepted into in Years 7 to 10, and the electives that a student may choose in Years 9 and 10. Courses outside the core educational programs incur charges above the voluntary contribution. All charges are compulsory if you choose for your child to undertake these programs or electives. Course charges for optional courses are required to be paid at the start of the college year. All courses in Years 11 and 12 incur a compulsory charge. Subject changes made during the year may result in adjusted charges. Parents will be notified once the account has been adjusted. School Library / Smart Rider Card Smartrider cards will be issued to all new students for a $5.00 charge. The Smartrider card also doubles as a School Library card. The Library card will enable students to borrow books through the Library and use the photocopiers. If the card is lost or misplaced, a new card can be issued at the cost of $5.00 per card. All cards will include a photo for identification purposes.
