3 Shire News Shire of Sandstone Hack Street SANDSTONE WA 6639 Phone: 08 9963 5802 Fax: 08 9663 5852 Email: reception@sandstone.wa.gov.au FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO It seems that I have hardly finished penning the March edition and we are already in April. The March meeting dealt with the following items. • Policy dealing with attendance at Events by Elected Members & Staff • Annual Compliance Return • Appointment of Complaints Officer along with Forms and Procedures. • Proposed amalgamation of Lot 374 into Atley Station • Sale of 18 Oroya Street (Old Police House) • Mid Year Budget Review • Sandstone Public Health & Wellbeing Plan • Emergency Building Order on Lot 113 & 114 Payne Streets Full details of these matters can be found on councils’ website in the Minutes. Due to holdups with the Department of Local Government passing new regulations (Gazetted in November 2020) that were to be introduced into last years final account, there has been a holdup on many councils receiving the sign off on their Annual Financial Statements, Sandstone being one of these, and it is anticipated that we will received this sign off in the near future to enable our Annual Electors Meeting to be held. As the financial year draws to a close, council invites submissions from residents that can be costed and presented to council for consideration in our 2021/2022 annual budget. Any submissions should be received by the end of April, so due diligence can be carried out prior to it being submitted to council. Council, at its last meeting also had a presentation from Ramelius Resources, who are wanting to cart ore from the Penny West Gold Mine to Mount Magnet for processing. Condolences to Councillor Carol Hodshon on the passing of her brother, our thoughts are with you. From All Elected Member, and staff we wish everyone a safe and happy easter. CHARLIE BROWN Chief Executive Officer 3

8 On behalf of the 8 ladies who travelled on the Community Bus to Mt Magnet on Friday the 12th of March, I would like to thank the Shire of Sandstone for providing this service. We went over to attend the bi yearly Breast Screening Clinic and the drivers were kind enough to allow us time to attend to some chores and do a bit of shopping. It is a wonderful community service to provide the bus free of charge to enable the ladies to attend this health check and it is greatly appreciated by all of us. Lana Lefroy ( Community Nurse) 8

14 Ordering a PIZZA in 2026 CALLER: Is this Pizza Hut? GOOGLE: No sir, it’s Google Pizza CALLER: I must have dialled a wrong number, sorry. GOOGLE: No sir, Google bought Pizza Hut last month. CALLER: OK. I would like to order a pizza. GOOGLE: Do you want your usual, sir? CALLER: My Usual? You know me? GOOGLE: According to our caller ID data sheet, the last 12 times you called you ordered an extra-large pizza with three cheeses, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and meatballs on a thick crust. CALLER: Super! That’s what I’ll have. GOOGLE: May I suggest that this time you order a pizza with ricotta, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and olives on a whole wheat gluten-free thin crust? CALLER: What? I don’t want a vegetarian pizza! GOOGLE: Your cholesterol is not good, sir. CALLER: How the hell do you know that? GOOGLE: Well, we cross-referenced your home phone number with your medical records. We have the results of your blood tests for the last 7 years. CALLER: OK, but I do not want your rotten vegetarian pizza! I already take medication for my cholesterol GOOGLE: Excuse me sir, but you have not taken your medication regularly. According to our database, you purchased only a box of cholesterol tablets once at Lloyds Pharmacy, 4 months ago. CALLER: I bought more from another pharmacy. GOOGLE: That doesn’t show on your credit card statement. CALLER: I paid in cash GOOGLE: But you did not withdraw enough cash according to your bank statement CALLER: I have other sources of cash GOOGLE: That doesn’t show on our latest tax returns, unless you bought them using an undeclared income source, which is against the law! CALLER: WHAT THE HELL! GOOGLE: I’m sorry sir, we use such information only with the sole intention of helping you. CALLER: Enough already! I’m sick to death of Google, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and all the others. I’m going to an island without the internet or TV, where there is no phone service and no one to watch me or spy on me. GOOGLE: I understand sir, but you need to renew your passport first. It expired 6 weeks ago…….. Don’t laugh…..it’s coming! Thanks to Dick Henning for sending this in 14
