Bendigo Bendigo has a proud history – and we want to make sure it has a bright future too. That’s why Labor has spent every day over the last four years doing the things we said we would. We’re fixing local roads and upgrading the Bendigo line, and using local workers and materials to create more than 950 local jobs. We’re modernising local schools to give every child the best start in life, and investing in local healthcare so that every family can rely on quality care close to home. To give Victorians the skills they need for the jobs they want, we’ve brought back Tech Schools and rebuilt the TAFE system, and now we’re making TAFE free. But we know there’s more to do. That’s why a re-elected Labor Government will rebuild the Bendigo Law Courts and continue the regeneration of the CBD, build Bendigo Metro Stage 3, including three new stations, and roll out new V/Line trains while continuing to upgrade the train line for more frequent services. We’ll continue to improve our local schools and invest in the local health services that families rely on, including a new day rehabilitation centre. We’ll install solar panels on rooftops to bring down power bills. We’ll fund three-year-old kinder for every child. We’ll invest in free dental for local kids. And we’ll deliver the projects that make this strong community even stronger. Only Labor has a positive plan for Bendigo’s future – and only Labor will keep delivering for all Victorians. Quality care, wherever you live Wherever you live, every Victorian should be able to rely on quality healthcare, close to home. That’s why Labor has made big investments in our regional hospitals and health services, with the biggest fund ever dedicated to regional health infrastructure in Victorian history. We also ended the ambulance crisis, delivering more paramedics and investing in more nurses. It means the best ambulance response times on record, a shorter waiting list for surgery and better, faster care for local patients. But we know there’s more to do. BENDIGO DAY REHABILITATION CENTRE We said we’d deliver a world-class Bendigo Hospital for Central Victorians, and we have. The new Bendigo Hospital opened this year with 372 inpatient beds, 72 same-day beds, 11 operating theatres and an integrated cancer centre, along with a bigger maternity unit, 80-bed mental health unit, hotel and childcare centre. And a re-elected Labor Government will continue to deliver better healthcare, close to home, investing $60 million in a new Bendigo Hospital day rehabilitation centre, consolidating vital services all on one site. The new centre will bring together health services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, speech therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, clinical psychology and neuropsychology, which are currently spread out across the different locations on the hospital grounds. The project will create around 180 construction jobs, with a re-elected Labor Government to start work in 2021 and complete it by 2023. BENDIGO EARLY PARENTING CENTRE Sleep and settling is one of the biggest challenges facing parents. With around one in three parents reporting problems with their child’s sleep, this is a very real issue for local families. Labor’s new Bendigo Early Parenting Centre will assist around 690 local families with intensive sleep and settling support for babies and children under three-years-old. REGIONAL MEDICAL SPECIALISTS Right now, many local patients are required to travel to Melbourne for their treatment, or face big out- of-pocket costs for a local private appointment. It’s why a re-elected Labor Government will make sure local patients have the quality care they need, with 500,000 extra appointments with medical specialists in regional and rural Victoria. These appointments will cover the things that local communities need most, caring for patients with a heart condition, struggling with arthritis or fighting cancer. Bendigo patients will be able to access 27,000 extra specialist appointments over the next four years. Giving every child the chance to succeed Every child deserves a great start in life. And since being elected, Labor has invested $775 million in regional schools, upgrading and improving hundreds of schools across our state. We’re also making sure that the next generation of Victorians have the next generation of skills, rebuilding our TAFEs and investing in new Tech Schools, including Bendigo Tech School. But we know there’s more to do. WHITE HILLS PRIMARY SCHOOL A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a massive upgrade to White Hills Primary School. Labor will invest $4.6 million to transform old classrooms and facilities into the modern learning environment students and staff need to achieve their best. EAST LODDON P-12 COLLEGE A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a massive upgrade to East Loddon P-12 College. Labor will invest $4.5 million to deliver a major refurbishment to the school with upgrades to Block B, Block C and Block F. These works will target facilities that need it most, ensuring that students learn in an environment designed for delivering modern education. THREE-YEAR-OLD KINDER FOR LOCAL KIDS In an Australian first, every Victorian child born under a re-elected Labor Government will start kindergarten a year earlier, getting our kids ready for school, and set for life. As part of this transformational investment, Labor will undertake our state’s biggest early education build, with almost 1,000 new and upgraded kinders across the state. In Bendigo, Labor’s commitment is expected to create around 800 extra kinder places by 2029, equivalent to around 10 new early education services. Better Local Rail & Roads No one wants to spend time stuck in traffic or waiting for a train. That’s why we’re make the big investments in local road and rail to get people home sooner. We’re fixing hundreds of kilometres of regional roads and upgrading every single regional rail line in the state, including the Bendigo Line. But we know there’s more to do. BENDIGO METRO STAGE THREE Bendigo is one of Victoria’s fastest growing regional cities and locals need more trains and more reliable services. The Andrews Labor Government has already delivered extra trains and more seats, with an additional 38 services per week on the Bendigo line, and new VLocity carriages to give more passengers a seat. A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will build three new train stations in and around Bendigo and begin planning to upgrade the Bendigo line to deliver trains every 40 minutes. The $49.6 million project is the next stage of Bendigo Metro, a key election commitment delivered by the Labor Government, which will include new train stations at Goornong, Raywood and Huntly. The single platform stations will have car parking and covered waiting areas with seating. The new Huntly and Goornong stations will be built on the existing line to Echuca, and the new Raywood Station will be on the existing line to Swan Hill, giving locals access to these train services. The whole project will create up to 150 jobs. A re-elected Labor Government will also start planning to re-open Harcourt Station and upgrade track on the Bendigo line between Bendigo and Kyneton to add more capacity and allow trains every 40 minutes during off- peak times. Bendigo CBD Revitalisation & Construction Blitz The Andrews Labor Government has backed Bendigo as a great place to work and do business. That’s why we’ve invested $60 million towards the new education precinct at Bendigo TAFE, as well as the city’s own GovHub set to house 1000 workers – but we know there’s more to do. A re-elected Labor Government will invest $152.4 million to completely rebuild the Bendigo Law Courts on the former Bendigo TAFE site on the corner of Mundy and Hargreaves Street. This will continue the regeneration of central Bendigo, with the courts’ co-location with the planned education precinct that is currently taking shape. The new courts, set over three levels, will feature eight courtrooms, two hearing rooms and two mediation suites. Importantly, it will be safer for victims and court staff, with the latest court security systems, secure paths and multiple entrances. Labor will waste no time delivering this landmark project, with construction to start in 2019 and completion expected in 2022. The Bendigo Law Courts rebuild will create 450 construction jobs alone and 24 new ongoing ones. The Projects That Matter Bendigo is a fantastic place to live and raise a family. Labor wants to make this strong community even stronger. It’s why we’ve invested in projects that contribute to the vibrancy and liveability of Bendigo, including bringing White Night to Bendigo, the Regional Centre for Culture and Bendigo Creative Industries Hub, a new Bendigo Stadium and Bendigo Regional Aquatic and Wellness Centre, and Stage 1 of the Bendigo Tennis Centre. But we know there’s more to do. KANGAROO FLAT BOWLING CLUB A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver $330,000 for an upgrade of the Kangaroo Flat Bowls Club. The upgrade will include a new synthetic bowling green. BENDIGO BASKETBALL HUB A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will establish a new high-performance basketball training hub in Bendigo. The Bendigo Hub will be one of seven around the state, giving local kids access to the best training programs close to home, with a clear pathway to playing elite level basketball in Australia or the American NBA. Operating out of each of the hubs, a new intensive training program will see a dedicated High-Performance Coach work with male and female teams for kids under 14, 15, 16 and 18. Teams for players with disabilities will also be established, helping to discover our next great Paralympic stars. HARRY TROTT OVAL A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will provide $2 million towards the construction of a new club facility with changerooms, officials’ rooms and function areas at the Harry Trott Oval in Kennington. Already, the precinct will be enhanced by installing electronic scoreboards in the coming months, and the netball courts have been fully upgraded. The new facility will accommodate the move of South Bendigo Football Netball Club from the QEO and growth in junior sides across all sports.
