® CORPORATION DERRICK Flo-Line Cleaner Plus ™ and Model 58 Flo-Line Cleaner Plus™ ® P A R T O F T H E F L O - L I N E S E R I E S DUAL MOTOR LINEAR MOTION SCREENING MACHINE
THE ESTABLISHED WORLD LEADER IN FINE SCREENING TECHNOLOGY DERRICK’S LATEST INNOVATION SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES AND SIMPLIFIES FLUID/SOLIDS HANDLING. INTRODUCING THE FLO-LINE CLEANER PLUS™ Since the development of the original Flo-Line Cleaner in 1983, several performance enhancing developments have been engineered into the basic design to provide improved fluid-solids handling. Also, a number of mechanical improvements have been added to insure years of continuous trouble free service under the highly corrosive and abrasive demands of oilfield drilling operations. Also available is the Model 58, a wider version of the Flo-Line Cleaner Plus™. THE CHALLENGE Increased “G” forces at the screen surface of a shale shaker and/or decreased inclination of the shaker bed can result in dramatically improved fluid capacities. But under actual continuous operating conditions, poor solids conveyance away from oncoming flow – and off the shaker – causes reduced fluid handling capability and premature fine screen wear. Derrick’s Flo-Line Cleaner Plus successfully eliminates these problems and delivers real increases in fluid capacity along with fine solids removal. HOW THE FLO-LINE CLEANER PLUS OPERATES It’s all the result of creating a linear straight line screening action rather than the traditional vertical-elliptical or circular pattern. Two vibrating motors are used in place of one, together with with an adjustable pitch screen bed. Optimum conveyance of drilled solids is achieved with the lead angle (motor bracket) of the linear stroke fixed at 50˚ from the screen bed. This allows the pitch angle of the bed to be reduced without affecting solids conveyance and fluid capabilities can thus be increased for a given fine screen surface. Normal screen bed orientation is between -15˚ downhill and +5˚ uphill pitch providing maximum fluid throughput and assuring positive conveyance of solids of the machine under a wide range of drilling conditions. DERRICK FLO-LINE® CLEANER PLUS FEATURES 2 9 3 7 1 4 4 4 AWD Drilling Feature 8 +5˚ -15˚ Figure 1 1 FLO-LINE CLEANER (AWD) ADJUSTABLE WHILE DRILLING The center pivot (AWD) Adjustable While Drilling feature allows rig personnel to change the angle of the vibrating shaker bed without having to switch off the shaker. Positive settings of -15˚ downhill to +5˚ degrees uphill provide maximum flexibility regardless of formation type of drilling fluid properties. As formation or mud properties change, the angle of the screen surface can be quickly adjusted to achieve proper solids conveyance and fluid end points. Increased capacity, longer screen life and positive solids removal are the result (figure 1). 2 The AWD which is operated manually by one person, adjusts the deck angle by turning a calibrated wheel to the desired setting (2). This is made possible by a special “floating weir” arrangement (Patent Pending) which raises and lowers the possum belly-fluid level as the deck angle is changed. The AWD full range adjustment takes less than 2 minutes and is standard on all new Flo-Line Cleaner Plus models.
3 DERRICK INTEGRAL VIBRATORS The heart of the Flo-Line Cleaner Plus is its unique integral vibrator. Simple, rugged and dependable 3 phase induction motors deliver high speed centrifugal force or impact to the shaker screen bed (3). Special long roller bearings permit high speed/high load operation. Rotating eccentric bearing housings concentrate the load directly over the bearings to resist shaft deflections. With no exterior belts or drive mechanism, there is no possibility of motor contamination from external sources such as dust, drill solids 5 and fluids. Low motor maintenance is a key feature of the Derrick vibrator. Average life expectancies for over 3,000 Model “L” vibrators currently operating are in the 35,000 hour operating range. Model “L” vibrators are rated 1.5 HP and are listed Class 1 Group D and are available in all standard voltages for 3 Phase and 60 Hertz/1,800 RPM operation. 4 CORROSION RESISTANT FEATURES 6 All Flo-Line Cleaner Plus units receive a white metal grit blast with multiple coats of high solids epoxy mastic (color of your choice) for 5 maximum corrosion resistance (4). Fasteners, screen tensioning assemblies and other key components requiring constant use are made of stainless steel as well as the entire stringer support bed which is further protected with replaceable high performance urethane covers (5). 6 AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION SYSTEM This self-contained system provides continuous lubrication to the Derrick vibrators. All components are explosion proof and include a self-aligning coupling, pressure gauge and a 5 micron filter with filter by-pass indicator. 7 EXPLOSION PROOF 7 All electric’s meet NEC standards for hazardous locations (7). 8 FRONT ACCESS DOOR Hinged door provides easy access to the underside of the screen frame and discharge end of the unit and speeds routine maintenance (8). 9 FEED BY-PASS A manually operated valve offers a simple and positive by-pass arrangement that will not leak or jam (9).
DERRICK FINE SCREEN SURFACES DERRICK PYRAMID® SCREENS Derrick Corporation established another new standard of screening performance with the introduction of our three-dimensional Pyramid® Screen. This revolutionary design provides longer panel life, 40% more screen panel area and allows for a 70% or greater increase in fluid handling capacity. This permits the use of finer mesh screens at higher capacities, further optimizing the performance of your Derrick shaker. The Pyramid Screen uses gravity to an advantage by forcing oncoming solids off the peaked areas and down into the trough sections of the panel (Figure 2). This preferential solids distribution allows for higher fluid throughput than with any standard flat panel design by keeping the Figure 2 peaked areas clear of solids under continuous operation. ENHANCED PERMEABILITY The Pyramid Screen provides uniform distribution of fluids and solids across the entire screen panel. This feature greatly reduces the characteristic “horseshoe effect” caused by the the crowned support bed on your Derrick machine. As a result, you gain more effective utilization of your shaker by a combination of lengthening the fluid end point and increasing PYRAMID SCREEN (PMD™) the pool depth on the shaker basket. Gravity forces solids into troughs. In addition to the above, Derrick customers are assured the benefit of our ongoing research program to provide the most up-to-date screen surface technology available. All Derrick screens conform to API RP 13E. FLAT SCREEN (PWP™) Solids form continuous bed impeding fluid throughput. SANDWICH SCREENS® Screen plugging problems are all but eliminated by the use of Derrick Figure 3 Sandwich Screen®. Provided as standard equipment on the Flo-Line Cleaner Plus, these fine mesh screens are manufactured with the highest quality materials available and are designed to provide the highest fluid throughput (conductance) possible with maximum screen life. In the past, the plugging tendencies of nearsize-oversize particles under continuous operating conditions have forced drilling contractors to use relatively coarse screens. Derrick’s patented Sandwich Screen discourages plugging through the use of two fine mesh screens, supported by a calendered coarser mesh backing screen and a metal perforated plate with 1” square perforations. All three mesh screens are bonded to the perforated which has formed hooked edges for side rail tensioning. Interference in the free openings of the top fine sizing screen are created by the crosswires of the second fine screen thus discouraging particles from lodging in the top screen openings. The second fine mesh also acts as a buffer between the top sizing surface and backing mesh to provide maximum fine screen life (Figure 3).
