Happy New Year! As we wave goodbye to 2021, we look forward to a new year filled with hope for good health, love, laughter, and joy. And of course, lots of second chances for the animals we serve! While 2021 was challenging for so many in so many ways, with your generosity and support we made it through and we celebrated some amazing results that we’re excited to share with you. Our staff and volunteers worked extremely hard and demonstrated what a group of dedicated people can accomplish when they share a passion and a common goal. We are grateful for each one of them and for you. 2021 Numbers We sheltered 655 dogs, 1088 cats, 62 birds, 31 reptiles, 1 ferret, 7 guinea pigs, 19 hamsters, 1 pig, 16 rabbits, 3 rats, and 1 skunk. Surrender of pets due to the reason of moving increased by 100% in 2021 which is an indicator that the housing crisis in Key West and the Florida Keys is having an impact on our family pets. The FKSPCA will be introducing a new program this year that will focus on providing financial assistance to income-qualified pet owners who need help paying the pet deposit on pet-friendly housing. Watch for details to come! A total of 632 animals were adopted, 656 were reunited with their families and 48 were transferred to rescue partners. Last but certainly not least, we spayed or neutered 739 dogs and cats through our spay/neuter clinics and provided wellness exams for 372 pets through the FKSPCA Dogwood Clinic. 3
Thanks to our dedicated team and your generosity we accomplished all of this and more in 2021! We look forward to accomplishing so much more with you in 2022. Thank you for being a hero and partner in our lifesaving mission! With gratitude, Tammy & The Animals Adoptathon This Weekend! This weekend we will be hosting our Adoptathon at both our Key West & Marathon Campuses! At this moment we have SO many animals looking for their furever homes, so if you were looking for that next four-legged family member, NOW is the time! We will be open both Saturday and Sunday for extended hours of 10am- 5pm! All adoption fees are WAIVED and we will be processing same day adoptions when possible. We will have adoption counselors ready to help you find a furever pet, give guidance on transitioning them into your home and assisting you with what their needs will be! We hope to see you there! 4

Ash finds a BFF in Bear! Marjorie was surrendered to the shelter because members of her family had developed allergies to her which could not be controlled. They were devastated but had no choice. She was young, pretty, and “full of life”, to put it mildly. Adolescent dogs are like adolescent humans, still works in progress and testing out what the world has to offer. During her stay with us, her kennel reactivity to other dogs required us to keep her confined to quieter areas where she did get so over- stimulated. Finding a home for a high-powered dog with no "off switch" can be challenging but fortunately we had two terrific people who were up to the task. Brittney and Brian had adopted a Rottie from us named Bear and were looking for a friend for him. When the three of them came to meet Majorie, she was full on in her play with Bear, never taking her paw off the gas. Our staff observed him getting a bit over it and suggested we give them a break, but Brian said matter-of-factly “Don’t worry, when he’s had enough he’ll just sit on her” and that’s exactly what he did! He calmly sat, she squirmed a bit then settled, at which point he got up and walked away. No drama, no major confrontation. Dog-to-dog communication can be so effective! Updates suggest that Majorie, now Ash, is a work in progress but improving all the time with the help of her canine mentor Bear and two great humans! Check out our Key Donate Today!
