The Role Job Title: Finance Director Responsible to: Chief Executive About Northamptonshire Arts Management Trust (NAMT): NAMT provides programming, marketing, sales, fundraising, HR, IT, finance, chief executive and company secretary services to both Royal & Derngate (including Northampton Filmhouse) and The Core at Corby Cube. Collectively we employ 250 people, are supported by 204 trained volunteers and have a combined turnover of £11.6million. Job Purpose: • To ensure the overall effective and entrepreneurial financial management and reporting for NAMT (on behalf of Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube) • To actively contribute towards the financial planning and strategic growth of the organisation as a key member of the Strategic Management Team • To deputise for the Chief Executive in all areas relating to Financial Management, Planning and Reporting Principal Responsibilities: Strategic Management - To contribute to the strategic management of NAMT, (on behalf of Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube) by developing and maintaining strategies that encompass the Finance Department • To participate within the Strategic Management Team and provide vision, direction and leadership in forward planning and the effective daily organisation of NAMT’s activities, including business planning and efficiency, policy and working culture setting, financial forecasting and strategic decision making Financial Management - Effective management of all capital and revenue budgets and effective management of the Management and Administration, Finance, Presented and Produced resources and budgets. • To drive through delivery of organisational financial improvement plans • To lead on the financial aspects of any strategic projects aimed at achieving growth for the organisation • To have an overview of the activities and budgets for each department to ensure the procedures laid down in the Trust’s financial regulations are adhered to • Monitor and control the quality and cost-effectiveness of services provided by the department to ensure high standards and value for money • To drive the elimination of waste and take opportunities to improve cost efficiencies • To maintain up-to-date records of departmental financial information Staff Management/Deployment - To lead and manage the Finance team by establishing excellent ongoing working relationships with team via recruitment, training and communication. • To liaise with the Head of HR to ensure staffing levels are maintained, recruiting effective staff as necessary, in line with relevant policies and procedures • To effectively manage the performance of the team by carrying out progress reviews and ensuring objectives and key outputs are cascaded throughout the department • To liaise with the Head of HR and line managers to establish an on-going training programme in line with company policies, to develop all staff to appropriate standards • Communicate effectively with team on a regular basis ensuring information is clear, accurate and timely; encouraging team participation in the way information is relayed to and from the departments • Ensure that Working Time Regulations are adhered to and that established reporting procedures are adhered to and monitored
Delivery - To deliver an excellent service to the customers of NAMT, Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube through financial management of the organisation. • To oversee the accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, the effective operation and development of management systems for all accounting functions, particularly those relating to purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, cash and banking, nominal ledger and stock control • To be responsible for the preparation of appropriate financial reports for NAMT, Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube Boards and to present such at Finance Committee and Board Meetings, as and when required • To be fully conversant with new initiatives, new legislation and modern thinking in all matters relating to the financial management of NAMT, Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube and to advise the Management Team and Boards accordingly (e.g. Charity, Accounting and other) • To plan and oversee financial management documents, including financial plans, budgets and forecasts • To manage and oversee the preparation of all statutory returns and the management of company pension schemes • To maximise income from NAMT, Royal & Derngate (including Northampton Filmhouse) and The Core at Corby Cube’s secondary and trading activities • To plan implement and develop the Finance Team operating procedures • To lead and initiate liaison with auditors, business advisers and funding partners • To oversee the Management Information Systems used by NAMT, Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube and with an emphasis on effective financial control procedures • To liaise with HMRC regarding all VAT and Theatre Tax Relief processes • To manage all the NAMT, Royal & Derngate and The Core at Corby Cube’s investments to their best advantage, appraising all investment proposals and providing analytical information to assist in making these decisions Additional Responsibilities • Promote and adhere to the organisation’s culture and values • To be aware of, adhere to, and implement any legislative requirements consistent with overall duties of this post, with particular regard to Health and Safety policies and procedures, General Data Protection Regulations and Equal Opportunities • To undergo relevant training and development required by the Chief Executive • To carry out any other tasks that will, from time to time be allocated by the Chief Executive on an ad hoc or continuing basis, commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post Relationships/Position in the Organisation • Member of Strategic Management Team (SMT) • Direct line responsibility for Finance Manager and Management Accountant. Person Specification Essential Experience • Significant experience at senior financial controller level within a large customer driven environment • Significant experience in direct management and control of a minimum £5m turnover operation • Proven experience in direct management and supervision of a finance team • Proven experience of budget preparation, setting and monitoring and financial forecasting • Proven experience of preparing and presenting financial and management accounts, reports and data • Strong influencing skills with the ability to direct and motivate to deliver through others • Experience of liaising with auditors, business advisers and board members • Working with stakeholders and investors Knowledge/Qualifications • Qualified accountant to at least CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA level • Good working knowledge of current accounting software systems • Knowledge of management systems for all accounting functions including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, cash and banking, nominal ledger and stock • Understanding and appreciation of the charitable and not-for-profit sector including Charity Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and VAT Cultural Exemption Skills/Abilities • Excellent and extensive people management and leadership skills • Excellent communication; both oral and written and excellent interpersonal skills • Well-honed presentation skills both verbal and in writing • Strategic and analytical skills • Flexibility and adaptability • Proven report writing skills • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) • Proven ability to liaise with statutory agencies e.g. Charity Commission, Inland Revenue and H.M.
