The Teatro La Fenice since the dawn of its history has always been the quintessential place of modernity, exploring new styles in every age, with World Premieres of many Operas that keep being very important over time. For this reason we are therefore delighted to host the 5th edition of the FEDORA Prizes Award Ceremony. We wish to welcome international artists, opera and ballet professionals and donors in Venice. Today, we are celebrating together excellence, innovation and artistic collaboration in the field of opera and ballet. This special occasion shows how essential it is to sustain our joint European cultural heritage. By supporting promising artistic projects created by experienced and emerging artists we can contribute to moving these art forms forward. This event is organized on the occasion of the performance of Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart, conducted by Jonathan Webb and staged by Damiano Michieletto, one of the most interesting representatives of the younger generation of Italian directors. On behalf of Teatro La Fenice, I would like to welcome you all and wish you a memorable evening at our theatre. Fortunato Ortombina Sovrintendente and Artistic Director of Fondazione Teatro La Fenice

In 2019, 26 events have been organized in 14 countries showcasing emerging artists, advocating education projects and new artistic work while reaching out to new audiences. The theme of this year’s roadshow events was education, Antwerp intercultural dialogue and social integration to boost the accessibility to opera and ballet. Moreover, the Roadshows increased the awareness about the need for more private funding as a complementary revenue stream to public subsidies for cultural institutions. BRINGING CREATIVE IDEAS TO LIFE Founded in 1906 at Paris’ Place Vendôme, the High Jewelry Maison Van Cleef & Arpels has remained faithful to a highly distinctive style characterized by creativity, enchantment, artistic sensibility and poetry. Its collections have notably been influenced by dance, with the emblematic ballerina clips born in the 1940s. This inter-disciplinary dialogue was reinforced by a decisive encounter with George Balanchine. In 1967 in New York, the well- known choreographer presented the ballet Jewels, inspired by the emeralds, rubies and diamonds he had admired in Van Cleef & Arpels’ Fifth Avenue boutique. Today, these cultural affinities endure in new collaborations between the Maison and the world of dance. The FEDORA – Van Cleef & Arpels Prize for Ballet symbolizes the Maison’s constant commitment to creativity and bears witness to its support for choreographic art, by encouraging new talents.
