CHRISTMAS 2020 AT BANFF TRAIL by Ravenmoon Spicer Normally, Banff Trail holds an amazing and exciting Christmas Party which includes a Christmas sing-along. This is a highly anticipated event for many neighbourhood kids (and me). Due to COVID-19, changes were made. I am pleased to say, we still were able to find a way to celebrate. On Saturday, December 8, Banff Trail offered free sleigh rides with Mr. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, pulled by two magnificent horses. Many thanks to the elves who lent helping hands to ensure everything ran smoothly and safely. Many thanks also to our events coordinator who managed to put this day of festivities together. Please enjoy the photos taken by Carol Hinatsu who generously shared them with me and the BTCA. Call for Artists If you are an artist in the Banff Trail community and would like to exhibit your work in the Banff Trail Howler Artist Exhibit, please email your submission to Terese Mullin at tereseamullin@gmail.com. Newberry: Recently, as part of my art school studies, I have done acrylic paintings, charcoal and dry media drawings, fiber pieces and assemblages, embroidery, and multimedia work. Portraits, figures, landscapes, and plant forms interest me. Q. What do you hope the viewer will take away from your work? Newberry: I hope the viewer senses the dynamic rhythms of growth in the tree forms and sense the imaginative directions the awe of nature can inspire. The personalities of trees are like pieces of sculpture you can enjoy every day on a walk in our neighbourhood. Their presence, age, solidity, and seeming permanence and beauty offer companionship to the wandering of our lives. B A N F F T R A I L I F E B R U A R Y 2021 7
