CO-OP interview logistics The FALL 2020 Placement will be Continuous placement (like the 2nd round) All interviews will be virtual by video or phone in Eastern Standard time (Ottawa time) Please check your emails and calls as we will contact you as soon as we get a job offer for you. Calls from the co-op office will indicate "blocked number" and not our usual, 562-5800, since officers are currently using their own cell phones. If you get more than one interview in a 48 hour period, we ask that you rank the positions in order of preference (1, 2, 3, etc.). You can only refuse (X) one offer during the entire placement. coop.uOttawa.ca
CO-OP interview logistics • Please read job descriptions carefully and apply to positions that interest you, because we expect you to accept your first job offer. • Given the current situation, don't worry if there aren't currently a lot of positions posted. We all live in uncertainty and some employers prefer to wait to see developments in deconfinement before posting a job. • If it is important for you to know whether the internship will take place virtually (telecommuting) or face-to-face, please ask during the interview. • Please continue checking the NAV daily for new positions. coop.uOttawa.ca
CO-OP interview logistics Communications • The 1st point of contact for everything related to interviews (posted positions, interviews, ranking, technical problems) is the central telephone line 613-562-5741 or coop@uOttawa.ca • All requests are processed within a short time or they are forwarded to the right person. Make sure you leave a clear message, say your name, student number, and phone number well. • Please update your personal information in the NAV, Your phone number Your Skype username. *To find out how, you can refer to the May 4 newsletter. coop.uOttawa.ca
CO-OP interview logistics • Some Job descriptions have special funding and qualifications ***THIS IS A CO-OP WORK-STUDY POSITION*** To be eligible, students must: • Qualify for governmental financial assistance or demonstrate a financial need by completing the Financial Questionnaire. Instructions: Go through UOZone, go on the application tab and choose financial questionnaire. If for summer, click in the box (Extend this questionnaire to include the current spring/summer term. ** Do not include your projected salary for the summer. • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or International student. • Be registered at the University of Ottawa in the session subsequent to the work period. Upon receipt of the work study eligibility decision from Financial coop.uOttawa.ca Aid and Awards please ensure to send a copy by email to coop@uottawa.ca with your complete name and student number.
CO-OP interview logistics • Virtual interview plateforms include Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype for Business and WebEx. • A Virtual Waiting Room will be used when possible. • For example When using a Microsoft Teams meeting link, by default, all attendees who are not from your organization will arrive in a virtual lobby after which they will be admitted to join the actual meeting. The meeting organizer will see a list of people in the lobby and will admit people one by one from the lobby to complete interviews.
Scheduling Conflicts PLEASE NOTE • Centralized interview scheduling: you will never have two interviews scheduled at the same time. Let us know if there is too little time between two interviews • Part-time jobs: avoid day shifts during interview period • Conflicts with a class: Make arrangements with your professor if an interview conflicts with class time • Conflict with a mid-term: Contact our office as soon as possible • Mid-term right before or right after an interview: Inform us coop.uOttawa.ca
Interview Conflict Tool Co-op students are now required to enter their interview conflicts through the Co-op Navigator Please log in the Navigator and on your front page, look for the Quick links and click on Interview Conflict
Employer ranking • When you have more than 1 interview in a 48h window you can rank your preferred employer. You might see these partial ranking: 1 - guaranteed job offer Rank – did well but not chosen X – not chosen coop.uOttawa.ca

Checklist Check COOP Navigator every day to verify if you have been selected for an Check interview. Research Research the organization / company / firm / department Web site. Review your resumé and job postings: Match your skills to the requirements Review sought by employers in your field. Prepare Prepare answers to typical questions. Practice Practice STAR answers to demonstrate skills and qualities related to job posting. Prepare Prepare questions (at least three) to ask employer. Have Have clothes ironed and ready. Prepare Prepare writing sample for interview (if requested). Book a mock interview (coop@uottawa.ca) - and remember to provide the job Book number and interview language.
