setting? Head to Stebleton Park at Rock Mill to see one of the most
remarkable historical structures in the state. Rock Mill is an
impressive fully restored six-story grist mill resting next to a
beautiful covered bridge that spans the gorge of the Hocking River.
This is one of the nation’s only remaining mill-and-covered-bridge
combinations. Originally built in 1824, the mill ground wheat and
corn into flour and meal until 1905.
After sitting vacant for nearly 100 years, an extensive
restoration effort led to Rock Mill now being fully operational, just as
it was nearly two centuries ago.
You will be astounded by the mill’s 26-foot diameter all-wooden
waterwheel, the largest in the nation. Using only white oak, the
wheel’s axle is one solid piece of wood weighing almost three tons;
the waterwheel, formed from six giant trees, weighs 20,000 pounds. PICKERINGTON-VIOLET TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Lancaster has a wide variety of great family destinations. You
may have heard of AHA! A Hands-On Adventure Children’s
Museum’s 8,000 square feet of hands-on displays and activities, but
have you experienced their Nature Playscape? It uses natural
materials to immerse young children in nature, providing a
challenging and stimulating environment away from technology.

Try out one of our GPS-based scavenger hunts for plenty of
tech-savvy fun for all ages! Let’s Roam features clues that take you
to historically important sites around downtown Lancaster.
Wizard’s Quest helps you find all the tools any good wizard needs
while trekking through town. After the hunt, be sure to visit Lil
Stuffins Workshop where you can create your plush new best friend.
                                                                                             @saynplaycolumbus
For a different kind of adventure, get up close to a variety of
military vehicles at the Historical Aircraft Squadron. Then head
over to the Smoke Stack Hobby Shop to pick up a model of your
favorite. Southeastern Ohio’s only full-service hobby shop is an
amazing store with models, R/C vehicles of all types, trains, and
everything you need to pursue your hobbies.

For a fun time in the fresh air, head over to Rising Park.
Youngsters can fish in the lake or play on the playground, and the
whole family will appreciate the breathtaking view after hiking up
Mt. Pleasant. Or bring everyone to the playground at Hunter Park,
the region’s only all-accessible, multi-generational playground --
10,600 square feet of fun for everyone!

Need a little pick-me-up during all these great activities? Head
to The Well for healthy, delicious weekday breakfasts, lunches,
smoothies, coffee, and snacks – with an amazing indoor play space
for the kids. Or stop by Nancy’s Scoops for their great selection
of hand-dipped ice cream and frozen treats. Or stop by Extreme
Creamery, where every sweet tooth will be satisfied by their
decadent and indulgent creations.

End your summer day at the Skyview Drive-In. This is a fun,
old-fashioned way to take in a double feature. Enjoy the great
concession stand and high-def picture and sound system in the
coolest atmosphere around.
