FABULOUS FLORALS & FINE ART Floral Interpretations of Regional Artwork Delight your senses and celebrate the coming Spring at this highly anticipated annual event. Area florists create stunning arrangements interpreting works of fine art; a botanical fantasia the whole family can enjoy. Hurry, the exhibit will last only as long as the flowers! WELCOME Pablo Center at the Confluence welcomes you to the fourth season’s visual art exhibitions. With the return of in-person programming, we welcome you to stroll through the galleries and halls of Pablo Center and discover new, expressive, and thought-provoking works around every corner. Join us in the celebration of art in all forms; you’ll be sure to find yourself challenged, captivated, and inspired. ROSE DOLAN-NEILL, CURATOR Assistant Director of Artistic Programming Pablo Center at the Confluence It has been a long, cold winter and we deserve flowers—lots of flowers. Luckily for you, we have just what you need to get you through the ice and snow. Many have wondered how we create this unique gallery experience? We send out a call for artists and florists. The artwork is selected based on its original concept and professional appearance, but the first consideration is this; will it pose a challenge to a floral designer? After the artwork has been selected, it is randomly paired with a local florist. The florist then is given the task of interpreting the artwork with a floral arrangement. Some interpretations are literal, some are loose, all are one-of-a-kind fabulous! The warmth is on its way, and so are the flowers! 2

1. MARK AUMANN Timeworn Tapestry Digital photography | $125 Guatemala is one of the most colorful places on the planet, especially when viewing the traditional hand-woven clothing worn by indigenous Maya women. An important reflection of Maya cultural identity, the garments have both symbolic and practical purposes. For me, this Timeworn Tapestry image captures both the natural and cultural beauty of Guatemala and the difficult conditions many indigenous women are forced to endure. Mark Aumann is an Eau Claire based photographer whose work has appeared in state and national publications. His images, exhibited in both Wisconsin and Minnesota galleries, primarily focus on people encountered during his numerous travels overseas. Floral Interpretation by MEGAHN CHRISTIANSON Brent Douglas Flowers This is Megahn’s second year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 4
2. JAMIE BOWERS Morning on Mars Acrylic and oil on wood panel | $425 Jamie Bowers is an abstract artist and bass player, having just moved to Eau Claire last year. Even as a youngster, he was interested in art, music, horticulture and landscape design. Those three areas often collided in school projects and in personal endeavors. Jamie has been actively painting since 2000 after taking some lessons from several artists and art teachers in Sioux City, IA., where he lived. He enjoys creating larger scale, multi-panel paintings for corporate/commercial settings and homes with large walls and open areas. Aside from selling artwork out of his studio and gallery in Sioux City, Jamie was fortunate to have his work represented and shown at a number of area galleries. Currently Jamie has a studio and gallery in Banbury Place. I am an abstract painter whose interest and inspiration lie with in the process of the picture I create. Often, I paint with a particular living space in mind and choose colors and design elements to fit the space and décor, regardless of whether the space actually exists or is purely imaginary. I have been actively painting since 2000 after taking some lessons from several artists and art teachers in Sioux City, IA., where I lived. Each artist had a vastly different style, but each taught me practical things about painting, using their materials of choice. I enjoy the process of completing a painting. Each step is experimental in many ways, and each is important to the final result. It is a process of problem solving, with successes and failures. I find that aspect very exciting and rewarding. I have a studio and gallery in Banbury Place. Primarily I paint on wood panels. The rigidity of the wood surface allows me to aggressively scrape and sand the work as I build or deconstruct layers of paint or plaster, depending on the painting. Texture and vivid color are hallmarks of my paintings, and I am constantly experimenting with various combinations of paint, plaster, and polyurethane finishes. I enjoy creating larger scale, multi-panel paintings for corporate/commercial settings and homes with large walls and open areas. Morning on Marsis an earlier painting where I played with simple, minimal shapes, and allowed the wood grain to become part of the work. 3. AMANDA BULGER Thinking About the Heart Digital drawing mounted on panel | $200 My artwork resonates with the lifework of farming. My interactions with the world and my practice as an artist are shaped by my upbringing on my family’s farm. Drawings and sculptures investigate relationships of labor, life cycles, growth and continuity as well as the people, tools, and systems that impact them. Recalling the rhythms of farm practice, I utilize strategies of repetition to focus on what is revealed in subtle variation. Exploring repetitive labor practices, I examine bodies, materials, and landscapes as well as inquire into its sustainability. Is this life work sustainable? Are these practices sustainable? Who will last longer–the tool, the tool operator, the landscape? Floral Interpretation by JENNIFER DAHL This is Jennifer’s second year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 4. SUSAN CAREY Field Encaustic, mixed media| $150 This encaustic/mixed media piece was inspired by the landscape of central Illinois. I have always loved the vastness and openness of the flat landscape–the low horizontals and delicate verticals of the corn stalks and the occasional tree. I want my work to draw the viewer into the space, not only the land/space represented but also simply the surface space and texture of the work itself. Floral Interpretation by NIKA SCHWARZ Brent Douglas Flowers This is Nika’s sixth year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 6
5. STACY CARLSON-KELLY Fly # 46 Acrylic | $725 As a painter, I love to express my energy and love for color. I enjoy the challenges of color relationships and movement of form. Much of my inspiration comes from my garden, nature and the support of my family. Stacy Carlson-Kelly is a lifelong resident of Eau Claire. Stacy is married to Rick with a daughter Norah who is already an artist in training. Stacy attended Viterbo University on an art scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art. After graduation, Stacy returned to Eau Claire and began her career as a professional artist in 1997. Since that time, Stacy has completed hundreds of art projects ranging from custom home accessories to large residential and commercial murals. Stacy’s passion for art and commitment to the Chippewa Valley is demonstrated by her eight hands across Eau Claire projects, volunteer work, and art donations to various causes. Stacy is truly passionate about sharing the beauty that art brings to the world. To reach Stacy, you can email her at: stacykellysk@yahoo.com Facebook page: STACY CARLSON-KELLY ARTIST. 6. LORI CHILEFONE There’s A Future in Filtration Ephemere, marbled paper, sally powers, gouache, and cold wax on basswood | $440 “There’s a great future in plastics” - a line from the 1967 film, The Graduate; it was gold-nugget advice from a business man to a high school graduate to follow the money. Over the last 50+ years both loose regulations on chemical companies coupled with corporate media driven consumerism have led to toxic particulate accumulation in our waterways, our soil, and in our bodies. This environmental dive is dark, and hopeful: hopeful in that consumers can drive industry, and dark, as we have plenty of evidence to enforce environmental regulations, i.e.; RoundUp in the rain, synthetic microfibers in the bellies of fish, the US banning of PFAS/PFOS in manufacturing, and the list goes on. My passions are my family, collaborating artistically, and partaking in the diverse offerings of Wisconsin’s Chippewa and Red Cedar Valleys. I received my BFA in Graphic Design from College of Visual Arts (Saint Paul, MN) in 1992 and now freelance as both a graphic and fine artist. Current artistic endeavors include painting murals, playing ukulele, and co-curating visual art with Jyl Kelley for In By 10 Art By 5 - A Larry Stark Retrospective to be hosted by Pablo Center in May - July of 2020. I work for our family business, Next Step Energy, and volunteer for WHYS 96.3FM - Eau Claire’s Community Radio Station by serving with the Board of Directors. Nearly every Sunday I enjoy co-hosting a music theme show “Moxie, Cadence and Verve”, and solo DJ for “a little diversion” on 96.3FM. Lori’s art was published on the cover of Syracuse Cultural Workers’ Women Artists Datebook (2018); she had the fun opportunity to illustrate “Summer Here” based on the opening lines of author Michael Perry’s book Population: 485, and was one of the 8 regional artists featured at Eaux Claires Music Festival (I, II, & III). Regional art representation: Caradori Pottery (originals) and Riverwood Art & Frame (prints), and in September of 2020 she had an art show at Volume One’s Gallery. Floral Interpretation by SHARON STEPHENS This is Sharon’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 8
7. DENNIS CIESIELSKI The Fire Inside Sculpture: butternut, basswood, sandstone, brass, fabric, dye | $250 I am drawn to wood especially wood that has that unique shape, color, texture and even decay. From it I may see a sculpture right away though most times it needs to sit in my inventory before I envision its place as a sculpture. This sculpture is one half of the Red Mallee that I found at a saw mill a few years ago. It is a native Australian tree. The other half now waits for that vision of another sculpture. I believe its title, ‘The Fire Inside’, well describes what made it special for me. Professionally I am a retired Social Worker. I have been a woodworker for many decades but in 2008, upon retirement, I turned to woodturning and now focus primarily on turning vessels from wood, newsprint and fabric and sculptures. Besides bowls and vases I also create sculptural pieces from tree stumps and other material. Not all sculptural pieces are turned. I will embellish some pieces with metal and/or fiber and other objects that I see as being related to the base piece and perhaps a story to tell. Floral Interpretation by JENNIFER DAHL This is Jennifer’s second year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 9
8. SANDRA CRESS New Shoes Digital photography | $250 I would not call myself a photographer. But I do like to edit, crop and enhance existing photographs, especially vintage black and white ones. I then turn these recycled images into new compositions that tell new stories. In ‘New Shoes’, I wanted to portray a small rite of passage for a young child. It focuses on the delight of wearing new white anklets with new, pretty ‘big girl’ black patent leather Mary Jane shoes. In fifth grade, Sandra Cress decided to become an artist. Since then, creating art using many mediums has become an integral part of her life. Her artwork has been included in numerous fine art exhibitions, and in many public and private collections. Floral Interpretation by NIKA SCHWARZ Brent Douglas Flowers This is Nika’s sixth year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 9. JUDY DEKAN Evening Explosion Alcohol ink on yupo | $200 Filled with curiosity, it is always exciting to experiment and see what effects may happen. Alcohol Inks allows for the unexpected in color and design. Much like the many design that can be found in our natural world if you choose to look for them. Once an educator always an educator. No longer in the public school setting I continue to learn through reading, walks in nature, and the many opportunities of life’s discoveries. Floral Interpretation by CARI RAYNAE JACOBSON Brent Douglas Flowers This is Cari’s third year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 10
10. DALAN HARTMANN Cousins Acrylic and gouache on canvas | $200 Dalan Hartmann is an art educator and artist living in Eau Claire since 2010. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and now teaches photography and film at Medford Area Senior High School. Her art varies in materials and subject matters but always displays concepts about relationships between people. Born in the Northwoods of Prentice, WI, she grew up wreaking havoc in the woods, drawing, painting and sculpting with whatever she could find. Her work includes realism, impressionist landscapes, and stylized European folk art. Floral Interpretation by NAOMI HARTL Green Bee Floral Designs This is Naomi’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 11. CANDACE HENNEKENS Apple Blossom Time Oil and cold wax on wood panel | $200 Although I paint abstractly, I am interpreting nature as inspiration. Using color, shape, line, texture, and value, I am communicating my reaction to something I have seen now or in the past. I want to keep nature in the forefront of the viewer’s minds and hearts. If we destroy our natural world, - cont. - 11
we have no place left. Climate change alarms me. With this painting, I am remembering the apple trees that grew in our yard when I was a young girl. Candace Hennekens is an artist, writer and poet. She was born and raised in the Chippewa Valley, and has spent most of her life here. She discovered art later in life. Her work has been shown locally at Acoustic Café, Menomonie Food Co-Op, Chippewa Valley Museum, Heyde Center and the Janet Carson Gallery. Regionally her art has been shown at New Visions Gallery in Marshfield and the Center for the Visual Arts in Wausaw, Wisconsin. Floral Interpretation by MEASHA VIETH Brent Douglas Flowers This is Measha’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 12. MARY HERMANSON Blue Nebula Pieced fabric/quilted | $875 Blue Nebula reflects my continuing efforts to create an interesting use of the negative space. In this composition I used fabric that reminded me of an astronomical nebula, which not only added interest to the negative space, it enhanced the colors and fine details in the composition. Blue Nebula also reflects my use of the elements and principles of design, combined with the symmetry of kaleidoscopic design and the techniques and materials of traditional quilting. As I work with various pieces of fabric, new combinations and contrasts appear and this leads me to other colors and combinations that I had not anticipated. As a result, my compositions are ever-evolving as I cut, match and sew as many as 400 pieces of fabric to achieve the final piece of art. Each time I begin to create a kaleidoscopic design, there are elements of surprise, change, and chance as to where the fabric will lead me to accomplish the desired visual image. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, UW-Stout and a Master’s Degree in Professional Development, UW-La Crosse. I taught a total of 40 years as an art educator in Colorado, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Now I enjoy retirement, living and working in the hills south of Eleva, WI with husband Bill, a musician. STEVE IMMERMAN Forest Fire Kilnformed glass | $1,195 My glass art is abstract and is usually composed of rigid geometry – but the geometry often surrounds, or is juxtaposed with, organic and chaotic design elements; representing the uncertainty within and around us. Beauty, color and balance are important elements in my artwork, and enjoyment of the act of making these pieces is a goal in itself. Steve Immerman is both a practicing general surgeon and glass artist. Kilnformed art glass has been his passion for twenty-five years, yet through those years, he has managed to navigate the delicate balance between art and medicine. His artwork is based on precision and technical skill - yet with some unpredictability and surprises - not unlike a surgeon’s career. Immerman’s work is available in selected galleries throughout the United States. Floral Interpretation by BONNIE WARNDAHL Winnowburrow Farm & Florals This is Bonnie’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 13
14. HOLLI JACOBSON Intersecticide Acrylic on canvas | $925 Our beautiful Earth is at a crossroads, a literal life and death situation. One- third of our insects are endangered from our use of pesticides, urbanization and climate change. Insects are often seen as nuisances, not as the pollinating, life-giving creatures they are. In Intersecticide I’ve created an abstract painting based on the colorings and markings of butterflies and insects. The loose frenzy of brushstrokes mimics the chaos faced by our insect population, while the wide spectrum of colors honors their beauty and importance. As we approach this dangerous intersection, I hope wiser heads prevail and choose the path of protection and preservation. Holli Jacobson is a painter and mixed-media artist working in studio 121 of Banbury Place in Eau Clare, WI. Her semi-abstract paintings represent the beauty of earth and sky, but utilize colors and brushstrokes alerting the viewer to underlying chaos. The paintings are inspired by researching climate change and nature photography and man’s effect on the Earth. Holli’s work can be viewed in various locations around Eau Claire, including Artisan Forge Studios, 200 Main Art and Wine and by appointment in her studio. Visit her website www.hollijacobsonart.com for more information. Floral Interpretation by LORI CHILEFONE This is Lori’s second year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 14
15. CARI RAYNAE JACOBSON Patterns Mixed media | $195 Patterns is a mixed-media piece. The main medium is watercolor, but it also contains bits of paintings made with acrylic paint on a Gelli-plate. It also borrows some paper from my large stash of scrapbooking papers. The name Patterns comes from the use of pattern tissue normally used to cut out fabric pieces to be sewn into clothing. Some things you might find in the patterns: A small heart, some shoes, and an old toy car. My creative career started when I began designing and sewing clothing for myself in junior high school. I graduated Cum Laude from UW-Stout in 1978 with a degree in Interior Design. Now retired, I have more time for creating watercolors, acrylic paintings, collages, eco-dyed prints, and greeting cards. I grew up in Eau Claire, and now share a century-old farmhouse with my husband. We’ve enjoyed remodeling it one room at a time. Floral Interpretation by BRENT STELZER Brent Douglas Flowers This is Brent’s sixth year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 16. BARB JAKS Red Rooftop 3 Oil on panel | $150 The Red Rooftop Series was inspired by the mobility of society which brings us to live in many locations throughout our lives. Whether we settle in a place for a few hours, days or many years, at a desk, in a tent or a house, for that time we make those places our own. We let an open book stretch out face down next to our bed; our jacket sighs with weariness as it relaxes across a chair back, content in the knowledge that it has once again served its wearer well; a near-empty coffee mug waits patiently next to the morning’s folded and refolded newspaper – pages askew. These habits are the shingles we use to construct our red roof tops wherever we decide to travel; a beacon that catches our eye and tells us we are in the right place. We are home. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Barb Jaks now lives in northwest Wisconsin. Her art education has come through workshops in both Chicago and more - cont. - 15
recently at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Barb works in oils, encaustic and acrylics. Floral Interpretation by VICTORIA BASTMAN Victoria’s Floral This is Victoria’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 17. RICK KOZIEL Brown Bear and Salmon Photography on canvas | $200 My photographic interests are founded on my love of nature. For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to the environment and the mystery, magic and spirit of wild critters and places. Capturing fleeting moments in the natural world has become a passion… whether it’s an “explosion” of a flock of red- winged blackbirds, a spectacular sunrise or a charging brown bear. I hope my images evoke an appreciation of the beauty and complexities of the natural world and inspire viewers to appreciate and preserve our natural wonders. Aldo Leopold said, “There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot.” I learned at a young age that I’m one who cannot. This love of the outdoors led me to a professional career as a naturalist and director of Beaver Creek Reserve for over 35 years. This allowed me to share my enthusiasm, passion and love for nature and wild things with others. I seriously developed an interest in photography in graduate school and now that I am - cont. - 16
retired, I’m finding more time to look through a lens, hike, paddle the woods and waters of Wisconsin, and see the rest of the country. Floral Interpretation by BONNIE WARNDAHL Winnowburrow Farm & Florals This is Bonnie’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. www.winnowburrow.com (612) 462 - 9311 18. JENNY LAU 004 Photography and digital | $55 The shapes are now long and dynamic, vibrant and forever moving. This is where I am now in life. The flow of 004 gives me a sense of ambition and adventure. Similar to how the shapes move off the page, my emotions, goals, life adventures, and perspectives will always be moving. I purposely chose not to name the piece so that you can interpret without any bias. Jenny has worked on all different types of art techniques including watercolor landscapes as well as pastel and charcoal portraits. As she went through schooling and pursued other ambitions, Optometry was where she wanted to see herself. In the midst of studying for this career, art had been on the wayside until she found her passion again. This time, straying away from her basic traditional teachings of art, into a world of creativity and much more inspiration. Thejennspirit encompasses all the stories that she carries from the 8-year-old child to the present-day young professional. Life has given her - cont. - 17
so much perspective in the struggles and victories and is truly the motivation for all of her art pieces. Floral Interpretation by KELSEY WENBERG Brent Douglas Flowers This is Kelsey’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 19. MARY LAVENTURE Light Series #27 Linger photography | $325 Utilizing long exposure digital photography, Mary paints with her camera. She uses light and movement to create unexpected abstract narratives. Creating shapes, patterns, and variations in line and texture by moving both the camera and the subject matter allows her to turn elements of daily life into visual energy. Mary’s art is as much about the process of making the photograph as it is about the final product. The experimentation, physical movement, and momentary reflections after each shot allow her to build upon each image. She enjoys the energy and unexpected outcomes that reveal themselves during her mix of shoot from the hip and more formal studio setup. She is also interested in the play between the longer permanence of her final product and the fleeting moments she has as she creates each image. Mary LaVenture is an artist and photographer living in Menomonie, WI. She works in both digital and traditional film photography. Mary's current work looks at how manipulating light can create unexpected narratives. Whether it is large-scale macro photography or long exposure abstract compositions, she invites viewers to pause a moment and look more carefully at the world around them. Mary has a BFA in photography from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a Masters in Telecommunications from Indiana University. She has worked on numerous video, photography, and collaborative fine art projects over the years. Floral Interpretation by JESS Avalon Floral, SO This is Jess’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 18
20. DEZ LEZOTTE The Signal Acrylic on canvas with LED lights | Not for sale The Signal reflects on losing/regaining our relationship with nature and, inherently, ourselves. Dez Lezotte is an Eau Claire-based Artist and Muralist with a bold, illustrative style and a love of color. Floral Interpretation by JAKE LINDGREN Avalon Floral, SO This is Jake’s third year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 21. PATRICIA MAYHEW-HAMM Locomotion Watercolor on yupo | $400 Color, composition, and contrast are the most important parts of my work. I am finding my challenges working in abstract concepts. I create textures, made with various acrylic and watercolor mediums. In conjunction with tooled metals. I am not a purist. I use all sorts of water media, metals, powders, collage, and anything that strikes my fancy. I am now more interested in line and shape than a particular thing. My special love right now is Yupo, which - cont. - 19
is not paper, but a plastic. Watercolor loves it. If you haven’t seen my work in a while, you would find that it has changed. My quest to constantly improve my work has taken me down many roads. I don’t believe anyone can be an artist unless they are willing to work at it. Art is my passion. If I couldn’t paint I would find some other outlet for my need to create. I’ve been an artists, I think, since I was born. I have been painting for 40 plus years and the longer I keep at it, the more the creativity grows. My mind is often on overload, and I can’t get the ideas out fast enough, and some of these roads lead to chance encounters filled with delight. In 2014, Patricia was chosen as the featured artist for Jubilee by the Eau Claire Regional Arts Council. In 2012 they honored Patricia with a surprise award for her support in the visual arts. In 2013 she was a featured artist at Phipps Center for the Arts, Healing Arts exhibit. Patricia was the guest artist on Humanities Day at the University of Wisconsin-Rice Lake in 1989,1992, and 1993. In 1998 she won a national merit award from the National Headache Foundation for her painting, The Private Hell of Migraine. She is currently represented by Dancing Bird Gallery, Cumberland, WI, Brickyard Gallery, Barronett, WI, and her own studio, Artistic Innovations. Patricia lives in Chetek, Wisconsin with her husband David and two cats. Floral Interpretation by MYSTERY FRIEND OF THE ARTIST 22. JEFF NELSON Rocky Mountain Elk - Late Winter Water color | $870 After a long winter spent wandering the lowland areas of the Middle Rockies of Wyoming this band of bull elk are about to separate. It is time to begin the search for the spring feeding grounds. A winter spent in cooperation will soon be replaced with competition. Watercolor seems a natural choice to reflect aspects of nature. This medium has a crisp freshness that reflects those same characteristics found in nature. For me, an ideal match. I have tried to use a variety of new techniques in this piece. Water resist and paint resist are two methods of experimentation for me as shown in this painting. I enjoy the freedom of throwing paint with my brushes as hands. Then, the careful and considered painting of the elk with small detail brushes is, for me, a nice contract which adds interest in a painting. - cont. - 20
Jeff Nelson is an artist currently working with watercolor and oil paint. After thirty-three years of teaching mathematics, Computer Science and Education. All degree work was completed within the University of Wisconsin system. Although Jeff was busy with a family and a teaching career, he remained active in pursuit of his art. Jeff ran a small business named Backgrounds by Design, which specialized in painting backgrounds for professional photographers. He also produced large scale installation art for a real estate developer in Kansas City, Kansas. Jeff’e pieces have appeared in area juried shows such as Arts West, The Janet Carson Gallery, Pablo Center and The Heyde Center. His work has appeared in galleries in La Crosse, Denver, Chicago, Kansas City, and Fort Meyers, Florida. Jeff continues to work and display primarily in the upper Midwest. Jeff enjoys reconnecting with teaching by offering classes in watercolor technique to people of all ability and skill levels. Floral Interpretation by JAKE LINDGREN Avalon Floral SO This is Jake’s third year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art 23. ERIN O'BRIEN Turkey Tail Digital photography | $300 I am not sure how many times I have driven by the Trego Nature Trial, part of the St. Croix National Park System. I’m always in a rush, wanting to get to my “Up North” destination. The seasons were changing, and snow was in the forecast. I am truly grateful I decided to take a walk in the woods on a gorgeous Autumn afternoon. Trametes Versicolor or Turkey Tail is a common polypore, also called bracket fungi, it plays a very significant role in nutrient cycling and carbon dioxide production of forest ecosystems-fresh air. Turkey Tails is all about Mother Nature showing off her many layers, textures, and colors. Art has always been a part of my life and path. After graduating with a degree in art, I built and ran a successful interior design business for over 30 years, helping people build and maintain beautiful homes and businesses. Having a working art studio in my home allows me to explore many avenues of artmaking, specializing in painted silks, photography, drawing and textile arts. 21

DON R OLSON Fall Lake Acrylic | $700 I work in oils and acrylics. My goal is to make something beautiful out of my relationship with nature. People find my painting style to be a little different. I like a strong composition with plenty of color, always looking for the next adventure to find a painting. I am a self-taught artist that has had a lifelong interest in art and the land. Currently I live in Chetek, WI. I’m a lover of landscape and the magical moments that happen has inspired me to paint. Landscapes are constantly evolving. CV PETERSON Mykiitas Epoch - Devotion Fungus relief sculpture | $900 A relief sculpture comprised of a fungus that is also a bio-alternative for Styrofoam. A prayer to the earth. A cry to return to the beginning. - cont. - 22
CV Peterson (Eau Claire/Chicago) uses art and science to explore human-caused environmental devastation. As a multidisciplinary artist they use combinations of sculpture, BioArt, painting, performance art, trash, and installations to explore these concepts. They have been working on my Mykitas Epoch series since 2015 which is a whimsical supposition of what will come of the planet after Humanity is extinct. In this theorized future plastic is Humanity’s legacy and fungus is the next sentient being to roam the earth. CV is an active member of the international and national art scene. They received their MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (‘16). They were mentored by Eduardo Kac, Lin Hixon, Roberto Sifuentes, and Tricia Van Eck. They are also the founder and Executive Director of Envisage Art Retreat. They have shown at the Chicago architecture Biennale, 6018 N Gallery in Chicago, the Shanghai Zhu Qizhan Art Museum in China, the CICA Museum in South Korea, and was part of the Universal Sea – Pure or Plastic!? Exhibition tour in Europe in 2018. Floral Interpretation by BRENT STELZER Brent Douglas Flowers This is Brent’s sixth year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 26. JEANNIE E ROBERTS Ice Tent Color photography | $145 My artwork has evolved in style and technique; from my early pencil abstracts, to my pattern-rich acrylic and oil color field paintings, to my more representational colored pencil and mixed media drawings of today. My subject matter varies from the organic forms, shapes, and design elements found in nature to the mystical, ceremonial and picture-writing symbols created by ancient civilizations, cultures, and religions. Typically, my compositions attempt to pare down images to their essential, universal forms. Through my art, I wish to honor nature’s beauty, the ancient arts and symbols of human existence, and past artists. My work has been influenced by my outdoor discoveries, by time spent abroad, by art and spiritual studies, and by my journey as a mother. Jeannie E. Floral Interpretation by MARY LAVENTURE This is Mary’s first year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 27. KAREN SCARSETH Winter Birch Mixed media | $225 I have painted many birch trees, but I still am very drawn to them. In order to change it up a little, I painted a close up of a birch and then wove it together with a variety of papers. The top layer is a mixture of many textures that remind me both of winter and birch trees. Floral Interpretation by LORI CHILEFONE This is Lori’s second year creating for Fabulous Florals & Fine Art. 28. MEL SUNDBY Blue Tempest Clay platter | Not For Sale In the years that I have practiced to honing my perceptions of life, I have come to an interesting place, I love to watch people. They never cease to surprise me. At times I find cynicism about our human race ahead by a nose. When Idealism, the long shot that everything will be alright, comes down the outside and briefly takes the lead. But Stupid is a dark horse, and he is partnered by Ignorance. They don’t subscribe to the rules, they shove and push and cut corners. However, as Shakespeare’s Macbeth said, “he struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more.” It all makes for great entertainment. There is nobility in humans. To watch us as we struggle is of never ending-fascination for me. - cont. - 24
