Factory Acceptance Tests
What Is Factory Acceptance Tes ng?
Factory Acceptance Tes ng (FAT) helps verify that manufactured products meet their intended purpose. The FAT validates
the opera on of the equipment and makes sure the customers’ order specifica ons and all other requirements have been
met.
Purpose of a Factory Acceptance Test
The FAT is not only beneficial for end-users and buyers but also to you too. The FAT helps assure both par es that the new
equipment complies with all contractual specifica ons. Addi onally it helps address any issues before the equipment arrives
at the client’s site.
Rec fying manufacturing issues while the system is s ll with the manufacturer helps control aspects of the project, such as
meline and budget. The FAT is a cost-effec ve solu on and is far preferable to addressing post-delivery issues.

Is a Factory Acceptance Test Different from a Site Acceptance Test?
A Factory Acceptance Test is a test that runs on the equipment or components before it is delivered to its intended des na-
on. While FATs can use simula ons to demonstrate how the equipment will func on in its future opera ng environment, it
may be difficult to mimic the actual opera ng condi ons.

Site Acceptance Tes ng
A site acceptance test (SAT) is performed at the buyer’s loca on to verify the equipment’s specifica ons meet the buyer’s
requirements and standards.
In the SAT procedure, the equipment system goes through actual produc on, following all process parameters, and verifying
its working condi ons. The manufacturer also sends representa ves to witness and verify the test. If a problem is detected,
the manufacturer has the responsibility to solve it.
It is known for the buyer to e a successful SAT to the release of payment. When done this way, it is very important to specify
and agree upon during the ini al stages of the agreement.
The main purpose of both SATs and FATs is to verify the equipment’s specifica ons according to the buyer’s requirements. In
most cases, the tests are performed similarly but there are some key differences between them, including:
