No – Rebecca Kavanagh, Amina Begum 1. Welcome & call to order 2. Congratulations and shout outs a. Welcome to Dr. Diane Adamo who will serve as the Interim Department Chair of Health Care Sciences 3. Dean’s Report a. New Hire in process i. Working on Positions i. AA4 in Pharmacy ii. Practice site coordinator in Health Sciences iii. Tenure Track line (replacement in Pharm. Sci.) iv. Have word on hire for an Alumni Recruitment Officer. An offer has been made and accepted. Start date is TBD. Will be housed in the Dean’s Suite. b. Teaching i. Adjustments to return to FTF teaching i. Back face to face ii. Concern regarding students who feel they do not need booster at practice site. University does not consider practice sites as remote learning. Booster is still required for all at WSU students unless waiver is granted. ii. Snow day policy and make up i. Academic Senate Policy Committee is meeting to discuss snow days. Further clarification to come. ii. Closure will be publicized through the WSU Homepage (http://www.wayne.edu/), WSU Academica (http://academica.wayne.edu/). A message will also be sent to registered cell phones and email addresses using the Broadcast Messaging Service. c. Research i. Start up availability. Searches are ongoing ii. Additional funds dedicated for GRA’s iii. Collaborations with the VA are possible iv. Working to gain additional faculty lines to replace research-based faculty d. DEI i. Meetings with DEI leads from other colleges ii. Revision of DEI Committee to College (addition of students) iii. One of the first charges is to work on a job description for DEI lead in EACPHS and looking to fill members on the committee. Please see snapshots. e. Future open lines
2 i. Postdoc recruitment – future open lines. Would like to have support letter from the college to protect time for teaching and funds for travel. In addition, offer development plan with mentors (inside and outside WSU). This is a newly funded line associated with faculty position. Heavy emphasis is needed on historically marginalized groups. ii. Lines expected – open transparencies iii. Retirements expected Other reports: Please review the Exec Committee Snap Shots. 4. Associate Dean and Assistant Dean Reports: Health Sciences a. Susan Davis: Pharmacy i. Packet of applicants to 400 Mack has been received b. Sara Maher: Health Sciences i. Nurse Anesthetist – need additional classroom space for this program. c. Mary K Clark: Student Affairs i. Moira Fracassa to represent OSA in EC meetings in Mary’s absence i. Reserving Room – faculty advisor for student organizations have ability to submit reservation for their organization through the EMS System EMS: https://ems.wayne.edu/EmsWebApp/Default.aspx. Student groups wanting to reserve space for an event will need to use the event request form. This form will be forwarded to Eric Upshaw and Amina Begum for approval. a. Current EMS system helps to minimize confusion. Need to consider that ability to reserve space without admin approving request for space. ii. C2 Pipeline Warrior College Summer Program returning to campus this year. Limited to 12-15 students per college. July 24 through August.4, 2022. iii. Shout out to Moira Fracassa for keeping Student Affairs running seamlessly in Mary’s absence. d. George Corcoran: Senior Science Advisor i. FRAP Award Committee ready to commence. First meeting scheduled for tomorrow. Timeline expected to have funds in accounts by the month of May. 5. Department Chairs a. Mark Evely – i. Questions regarding student and program activities – non instructional. Putting together a list for the Dean’s consideration. ii. Mort Sci taking lead in identifying gender neutral rest rooms and working with FP&M b. Steven Firestine i. Recruitment of new students in grad program (9 Ph.D. students and 7 Master students) ii. Active in admissions and clarifying policy and procedures iii. Faculty Meeting this Wednesday, Feb. 9 iv. Open Faculty position in Pharmaceutics currently 19 applicants. v. Pathway to Faculty Post Doc to Faculty position is in development. vi. In the process of coordinating list of shared pieces of equipment vii. New Autoclave functional; Old Autoclave nonfunctional. Trying to steal parts from other nonfunctioning Autoclaves to get at least one up and running. Looking at the need to potentially purchase another new Autoclave. c. Lynette Moser i. One faculty member has resigned effective at the end of this week. (50/50 practice site position with Beaumont Dearborn). ii. Implicit Bias Training is needed each year for our students and for students applying for their intern license. Early engagement is being requested.
3 iii. HRSU Grant needs salary support. Meeting is needed with the Dean. Anyone preparing and working on a grant needs to request salary support. d. Diane Adamo i. First EC meeting, first week. Getting up to speed with emails and meetings. Please feel free to offer advice regarding my transition. 6. Business Affairs/ Staff/ Building updates a. Lucy Snyder i. Elise Tillema – Grant Contract Administrator - Post Award focus - Goal - more robust support for all PIs in Post Award. Brandon Parker – Pre-Award. ii. Budget Hearings – Feb. 28 hearing for the college with central/Provost. Budget to move to a fiscal year so FP&M projects should be moved to end of the year. iii. Aaron Brooks - Facility Coordinator II - FP&M Large Project work (scope of duties) b. Cheri Nowak i. Performance evaluation time for non-represented employees due March 15th. Ask employee to complete evaluation so you have time to discuss prior to March 15th due date. (Hr.wayne.edu to find form) ii. No Merit increases. Moved to fiscal year. iii. Faculty to have separate type of consideration for equity raises determined by salary advisory committees. Not meant to compensate individual for performance. 7. Development a. Jon Goldstein i. Hopefully new Alumni Relations Officer starting soon ii. new half-time position in our college for an Individual Giving Officer iii. Monthly gift reports just sent out. Jon can provide you mailing and email addresses for your donors and alumni. iv. Dean will aide in the cultivation of donor and alumni relationships with our program directors etc. 8. Communications and Engagement a. Michelle Strunge i. Fantastic Week – stories are being picked up by University and Today@Wayne ii. Feb. 22nd Black History Month Panel Discussion. Please encourage students, faculty and staff to attend and to submit questions in advance. iii. Keep sending Michelle story ideas. 9. Open mic a. Budget i. Budget Update: not asking for specific budget cuts for 2023. Asking for cost containment measures. Currently we have enough reserve to get through this year without cuts. However, the 2024 year is looking at a total of 6% cuts. ii. Projected WSU will be in a $10 million deficit. iii. Action needs to be taken now to right size our budget with a 2% increase in revenue with new initiatives and growing programs. iv. College as a whole is maintaining our numbers. v. Bulk of deficit increase will be driven by labor costs. b. Promotion and Tenure i. January and February calls for P&T comes out. Dean meets with candidates in the summer as a group and not one on one. Dean will familiarize himself with P&T. Now is the time to identify promotion candidates. ii. Dean will meet with each group once he has the correct information regarding Promotion and Tenure in order to answer questions.

FY 2023 and FY 2024 Budget Hearings are starting in February 2022; The College is preparing for the hearings for long-range planning.

Collecting vignette experiences on topic from students and faculty to use as launch points for discussion. - Black History Month extensive series of spotlights, photos, videos from students, alumni, and faculty - Securing amplification of both panel and all BHM spotlights with central Wayne State MAC; panel is featured WSU event. - Promoted Pathologists' Assistant Diversity Initiative lecture on gender affirming surgeries Infrastructure: Please share any updates about changes to space or needs. - Migration of web content and cleanup of old files will require commitment of full days to focus solely on project. Rebecca and Michelle will take this on during set dates in Feb & March. We will alternate days, which we will communicate to EC in advance, to ensure consistent coverage for C&E. Current target is 9 new PhD students with 5 being supported by R01 grants. Trying to get second one running, but control boards are not available. Working with Aaron on backlog of FPM projects in Department Jeimei has created a list of shared equipment for the Department. Currently working with Beaumont/Dearborn (his practice site) to determine the focus of his replacement. Christine Rabinak has been appointed Chief Editor for "Behavioural Brain Research" Staff: Please place information here about staff activities. This should include new staff and staff leaving. Amanda and Rich are alternating working in the office to maintain having someone in the office at all times when students could be present. This area should include a situational update on the number of students enrolled/graduating etc. Students competed to participate in the state wide "Self-Care" competition for MPA. Our team includes: Brooke Penny, Natasha Bhutani, Miranda Barkho, Ashlee Vaclavik, Mirna Eshaya (alternate) The will be competing with UofM and MSU at the end of Feb. at the MPA annual meeting The Rho Chi students are promoting a "gift of life" drive for donors. WSU has won this competition for > 10 years. ASP students are hosting a "step" challenge to encourage all students to move more!
