Term 2 Week 9 - June 2020 Kindergarten Stage Page Kindergarten have been enjoying a great end to Term 2. Kindergarten students all contributed to the collaborative artwork on display for Refugee Week. Each student made a paper crane as a symbol of hope and welcome to refugees seeking asylum around the world. Most of us had never made paper cranes before so it was an exciting challenge! Students have been enjoying athletics, developing our throwing, running, jumping and skipping skills. Students are so enthusiastic during their Athletics sessions and they have been putting these new skills to use in the playground. They have also been having fun participating in “toy play” on Wednesday afternoons, an opportunity to share toys and games with their friends. Thank you for such a great Semester 1, Kindergarten! Your teachers are really proud of all of the fantastic reading, writing and maths we have seen in class and we can’t wait for more learning next term! Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS page 3
Term 2 Week 9 - June 2020 Stage 1 Stage Page What an interesting term it has been! Our whole society, ways of living and thinking have changed to keep our wellbeing, mind and body safe. Slowly we have been returning to our previous routines at school and home. It is great to see all students return to the classroom and school assemblies. Stage One teachers have continued to embrace students learning across all classes, collaborating with Student Learning Support Officers and promoting inclusivity. The students loved working on the science projects provided by Mrs Wong. The focus this term was physical and chemical change. Students have created art projects during Ms Manning’s lessons which were available on Seesaw during online learning. It was a beautiful experience for all to participate in the events for Refugee Week. Ms Manning, Ms Bennett-Gosling and some Stage Three Leaders supported students who all folded paper cranes for the whole school installation of 1,000 paper cranes based on the story of Hiroshima, ‘Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.’ Toy Play has become a feature of the week which all student look forward to. It has been wonderful for all students to talk and share their love for their games and toys. Since the students have been in isolation this is a positive approach to continue to develop their social skills. It was an exciting experience for the students to be involved in the K-2 Athletics Carnival Fun Day held at school. The students loved being in their Houses and trying their best to perform well and receive points! We love to see our students happy, engaged, active and safe, great Ashfield Public School citizens! page 4 Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS
Term 2 Week 9 - June 2020 Stage 2 Stage Page Ashfield Public School and our community have come back to full-time face to face teaching and learning! Teachers and students have been working hard to practise good hygiene and implement new routines. Our priority has always been student wellbeing and initiatives like Toy Play on Wednesday afternoons have been a way for the children to interact, grow in confidence and support wellbeing. Our classrooms are buzzing again with sounds of collaboration and guided discoveries. In literacy the students are further enhancing their persuasive writing skills. They are learning to use PEEL structure to substantiate their arguments and convince their readers. In numeracy, the students are building on their knowledge of fractions and decimals through open-ended tasks and hands-on activities and games. The daily activities on Seesaw assist in consolidating these concepts. Stage 2 have been enjoying doing athletics this term with Dance Fever Multisport. The kids have been learning every Monday a variety of important sporting skills. They have been learning how to sprint properly, long jump, shot put, high jump and much more in a safe and fun environment. All the kids have had excellent participation and look forward to their time at athletics. Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS page 5
Term 2 Week 9 - June 2020 Stage 3 Stage Page As we near the end of term, Stage 3 reflects on how different this term of learning has been. The Stage 3 teachers are so incredibly proud of all of the students’ efforts with online learning and their transition back to school. Well done Stage 3! Congratulations to our Multicultural Public Speaking Competition division 1 and 2 finalists. It was such a great experience for all watching you present your speeches through Seesaw. Stage 3 have been having a wonderful time engaging in exciting games each Wednesday afternoon as part of the SRC Toy Play initiative. It is great to see so many new, challenging games being brought in and shared with our class mates. The athletics carnival looked a bit different this year, but Stage 3 still had a wonderful time actively participating in the track and field events set up by Dance Fever Multisport. We hope everyone has a wonderful, restful holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone return for another fabulous term of learning! page 6 Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS
