COMPETITION AUDITION August 27, 2021 Each dancer with the desire to compete is required to audition regardless of past competition experience. Competition is an opportunity to increase performance skills and to show responsibility and commitment in rehearsal and performance. There will be two competitions proposed for the 21-22 dance season. NUTCRACKER AUDITION August 28, 2021 For registered Orlando Ballet School students only Levels Primary C – Academy 3 As this is a professional show, casting decisions are the sole discretion of Orlando Ballet School & Artistic leadership. Decisions are made based upon each dancer having achieved the demonstrated level of artistic achievement required for the specific part. A secondary factor is the availability of costumes that will fit each dancer by height. To the right are the roles and levels for Nutcracker 2021. Please note that this may be subject to change. Absences and Attendance Rehearsals take place on Saturday afternoons and a detailed schedule will be made available after auditions. Students that must miss a Saturday rehearsal due to illness, academic event such as an exam or testing, or religious event such as a communion or observed religious holiday should email in advance all potential conflicts. Students who miss multiple rehearsals, whether an excused absence or not will be re-evaluated on their ability to successfully perform their role.

CLASSE D’EXCELLENCE | FRANCIE HUBER September 26, 2021 Francie Huber earned a B.F.A. from The Juilliard School in New York. A principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Ms. Huber created many roles including the solo in Cascade, “the polka” in Company B, as well as the lead role in the internationally acclaimed Piazzolla Caldera. Her contribution to this work was featured in the 1999 Academy Award nominated documentary film, Dancemaker. Ms. Huber was also featured in several television productions including the Dance in America series’ Emmy Award winning Speaking In Tongues, the Emmy nominated The Wrecker’s Ball, the Dannmarks Radio production of Spindrift And Syzygy, and the 1992 Kennedy Center Honors and in the documentary film, “Callings” by John Altman. She was awarded a Bessie (New York Dance and Performance Award) for sustained achievement in dancing for her work with Mr. Taylor. Ms. Huber also performed with other companies including Twyla Tharp Dance as well as performed her own solo works. CLASSE D’EXCELLENCE AUDITION WORKSHOP October 24, 2021 Students will learn audition tips and tricks and even receive feedback after a mock audition class from Orlando Ballet Company members. The goal of this workshop is for students to receive a clear understanding of audition etiquette and expectations. Students will receive a headshot and arabesque photography session and a solo* videotaped by a professional videographer. *Solo can be either a classical variation or contemporary solo. One solo per student. Student must come ready with their variation or solo. Student must provide their own costume. PARENT OBSERVAION WEEK November 15-20, 2021 We at OBS understand the importance that we provide the utmost in quality dance instruction and that you have entrusted us with the development of your children into exemplary dancers and artists. It’s a privilege that we get to host parents during observation week, and that we can offer a glimpse of what goes into your student’s dance education. Parents are welcome to attend their student’s primary ballet class for this first parent observation of the year. Parent Observation is limited to two guests per student. Students with multiple ballet classes will receive a schedule via e-mail regarding the day and time to attend your student’s primary ballet class. CLASS D’EXCELLENCE CHOREOGRAPHER’S WORKSHOP December 28-30, 2021 Three days immersed in CHOREOGRAPHY & PERFORMANCE This one-of-a-kind workshop gives dancers the opportunity to explore ideas, create new choreography and build a show. Dancers perform choreography from other participants and create choreography for other participants. All aspects of producing a show will be covered including: • Developing choreography and a concept • Site-specific work • Lighting • Music • Tech rehearsal • Together, participants will create a performance open to the public. Ages 14 and Up for participants with an open mind and the willingness to contribute ideas are welcome. OBS levels Upper 1, Upper 2 and Academy 1-3. No prepared material is required. VARIATION EXPO January 30, 2022 OBS Classical Variation Expo is back! Students are eligible to participate. This program will allow participating students to perform a classical variation for a panel of ballet professionals from OB as well as an audience of family and friends on Sunday, January 30th, 2022, at our new Theatre at HOBC. All students will receive a written evaluation of their performance from the panel. How does it work? Several variations will be selected by the faculty to be taught and worked on. The teachers will then select which variation participating students will perform. Private Coaching: In addition, a separate coaching will also be given by and Orlando ballet company member on Saturday, January 22nd, 2022. This will further prepare the students for their performance. Costuming: Costuming for girls is the choice of leotard along with a matching skirt or practice tut (classical or romantic). Costuming for boys will be tights and t-shirt in appropriate colors. Costuming should be simple, and no new purchases are necessary. Costuming is the student/parent’s responsibility and must be approved by department heads. WINTER INTENSIVE February 12-13, 2022 Orlando Ballet School presents its Annual Winter Intensive. Students experience two days of classes in ballet, conditioning, pointe/variation and modern. The Winter Intensive gives dances and opportunity to take a concentrated dive into the training students will receive at the OBS Summer Intensive 2022. ABT Testing March 2022 Orlando Ballet School is proud to incorporate the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, a nine-level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development for students of all ages and skill levels. Orlando Ballet School is an ABT Certified School and a key partner in supporting ABT’s education and training initiatives. ABT Certified Schools are not only committed to teaching ABT’s National Training Curriculum in its ballet training program with faculty that is certified to teach the ABT Curriculum, but also present students annually for ABT Student Examinations along with hosting other ABT education & training events, performances & auditions. WHAT ARE ABT NATIONAL TRAINING CURRICULUM STUDENT EXAMINATIONS? The ABT National Training Curriculum Student Examinations are a graded examination system based on sound ballet principles, incorporating elements of the French, Italian & Russian schools of training. WHAT OCCURS DURING ABT NATIONAL TRAINING CURRICULUM STUDENT EXAMINATIONS? An adjudicator from the ABT National Training Curriculum Artistic Board of Examiners will observe the students perform a prepared examination class, which is conducted by the students’ ABT Certified Teacher. Level 2 students will also participate in pre-pointe classes. Ages: 6-12 or OBS Level Primary B - Level 2 (Must be 6 by 1/1/2022) Additional Information: • Tuition: $325 • What to bring? Students will need to bring a snack and lunch. They will be given two breaks during the day. The classes are set to music and will introduce students to the foundational steps and vocabulary of ballet. SUMMER INTENSIVE 2022 June 13- July 29, 2022 The Orlando Ballet School Summer Intensive Programs are for intermediate to advanced students ages 12 and up. Our summer program places strong emphasis on ballet technique training while incorporating supplementary classes in character, pointe, variations, modern, jazz, men’s, partnering and nutrition. All programs will have additional guest faculty throughout the intensives in addition to our wonderful OBS faculty. SCHOLARSHIP | FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION Orlando Ballet School offers scholarships and financial aid to families based on merit and need to students in levels 2B and above. All families offered scholarship are required submit a financial information application and scholarship packet, which includes a headshot and a 250-word bio. The fee for the application is $35.00. All scholarship information is due on August 8, 2022. OBS offers scholarships for eligible students. Potential candidates must be an Orlando Ballet School student for at least one full consistent school year to be considered. They must be placed in Level 2B (in the current school year) and up. Family financial information is required to be submitted, including candidates for the STEPS and BRIDGE program. Scholarships are offered at the sole discretion of artistic directors and senior artistic staff along with the evaluation of financial information. The following documentation is required for all scholarship applicants, due no later than August 10th, 2021: • Headshot of Dancer (not professional, no selfies) • 250-word Essay/Bio. Written in the student’s own words (parents may assist). Includes hometown, past dance experience, aspiration as a future dancer, how the scholarship will benefit your dancer and what participation in our programs has meant to your student. • A required financial application submitted through FACTS. Application is submitted online HERE ($35 fee). • Incomplete applications will not be accepted or eligible for scholarship.
