Volume 21, Issue 3 A Message from Tom Kirsch ETI National President Hello to all. We did not have an ETI National Board meeting this month. Holiday weekend and not much going on. eems like February is always a slow month. I know insurance billing has gone out, and the Corrals should be getting theirs. We were able to cut the rate this year...a good thing. We are moving ahead with the National Convention and looks like the show Corrals are planning shows. Hopefully, things will get back on track. I notice lot of our members are out riding and enjoying our weather. Looks like no big winter this year...not good for the summer months water-wise. It’s getting to be that time of the year to start looking at your equipment...A full check of your horse trailer and tow vehicle, tires and brakes etc. Taking care of the equipment now will save a lot head aches this summer. Stay safe and look out for each other. Tom National Board Meeting C Corral 88 members March 15 at 7pm rriding at Indian Canyons iin Palm Springs. Photo To keep all safe during Covid, ssubmitted by Lilly Adams the monthly meeting is via conference call. Join us! Equestrian Trails, Inc. ETI Corral 14, Western Wagons Llano Drive/Ride By Linda Elder, Secretary, Corral 14 Saturday, January 30, 2021 Susie Figley hosted Corral 14’s first drive/ride of the year at her ranch in Llano California. The drive was supposed to be on January 26, but due to snow and rain was postponed until January 30. Due to the unpredictability of the weather, no one knew for sure if we were going to be able to have the drive on the 30th until two days before when the weather prediction was for clear in the low 50’s. Heading H di outt with ith S Susie i iin th the llead d Susie Figley Saturday at 11am ten brave people (five wagons and two outriders ) headed out into the desert around Llano lead by Susie Figley and her cute Mini. The trails due to the recent rain were excellent. Sue and Kevin Martzolf There was good footing, no rocks or hills and “no dust”. The trail had gradual long climbs but nothing too hard on the teams. Susie led out followed by Linda Elder in her carriage with Rick Maness and his wife Janet, Sue and Kevin Martzolf with her wagon and team of Halflingers, Jeanette Hayhurst with her team of Mini’s, followed by Otis Calif with his team of mules. There were two outriders Wendy Bailey and Beth Brockman. 18 JJeanette tt Hayhurst H h t
Volume 21, Issue 3 ETI Corral 14, Western Wagons Llano Drive/Ride (cont.) By Linda Elder, Secretary, Corral 14 Linda Li d Eld Elder and d Ri Rickk with ith Sh Shaba b ((pic i 9) Otis Calif It was definitely “jacket weather” with a slight breeze and the temperature in the low 50’s and snow on the mountains in the background. We drove for approximately two hours and everyone was enjoying the beautiful day and the chance to Wendy drive, so we decided not to return to camp for Bailey lunch, but to stop and eat on the trail. After eating lunch and marveling about the great weather and perfect conditions for the drive, we continued on for about another one to one and half hours taking the long way to return to camp. We had a wonderful time and returned with tired, but fit animals. Sue Martzolf had some of the beautiful books “Cowboy Culture” by Sandy Powell and handed them out to the Corral members who had ordered them. Linda Elder showed off her new trailer to anyone she could, and Sue showed off her cute Australian cattle Dog puppy. Beth Brockman We wish to thank Susie for scoping out the wonderful trail and putting on this drive. 19
