TOWN OF LEDYARD CONNECTICUT OFFICE OF THE MAYOR Fred B. Allyn III 741 Colonel Ledyard Highway Mayor Ledyard, CT 06339-1551 (860) 464-3222 FAX (860)-464-8455 Mary-Beth Hubbard Executive Assistant to the Mayor Say hello to summer Ledyard! What a wet spring this has been. I guess this was Mother Nature’s way to make up for the lack of snow this winter. Seeing how quickly the grass turned green is a reminder that roadside cleanup, mowing and storm drain cleaning is all underway, so please be mindful of our crews as they care for our roadways. A huge thank you goes out to everyone participating in the roadside cleanup underway now through Memorial Day weekend. It’s great to see so many people taking pride in their Town! Paving projects will be ramping up quickly as well, with several neighborhoods slated for resurfacing this year so look for notice on specific roads shortly. I also post road resurfacing projects to my “Mayor Fred” page on Facebook. Ledyard is fortunate to have an amazing new Parks and Rec staff this spring! With the retirements of Don Grise and Kim Lavigueur, we welcomed Scott Johnson Jr. as the new Director, Monika Verebelyi as new Asst. Director and Laurie Marcotte as the new office assistant. The Department has been left in great shape for the new staff and I have high hopes for our new staff as they chart the next course for our Parks and Rec Department. To that end, be sure to sign up for some of the many offerings Parks and Rec has this summer for kids AND adults. The online registration system is super easy and convenient from anywhere and on any device, from smartphone to desktop, just visit https://www.ledyardrec.org. Create an account, add programs to your “cart”, then pay- easy as that! A ribbon cutting will be coming soon for the new Ledyard Town Spirits, located in Holdridge’s plaza. The new Bestway gas station and convenience store in Ledyard Center is moving quickly and opening is not far off. Thames Aquatic is moving ahead on Iron Street and progress is peaking. Our next big project is the redevelopment of the former Ledyard Center School. The developer has plans to renovate sections of the school and develop new apartment housing units to the rear of the site. This project puts the property back on the tax rolls and grows our tax base as we know we need. I ask that you please support this sale at a vote on May 15 at 7PM in the Ledyard High School auditorium. Part of this sale includes the creation of a new Town Green that we hope will bring community events, continued success to the Farmer’s Market, car shows and much more! The $65MM school consolidation projects also come to a close this month. Ledyard Middle School will host all 6 th, 7th and 8th grades this fall in the renovated as new school in Gales Ferry. With the closing of Ledyard Center School, the renovated as new Gallup Hill School will now host many more children in a beautiful new setting. If you haven’t already, please friend “Mayor Fred” on Facebook to keep up with town happenings, what I’m doing to represent our residents and other important announcements. Have a great summer! Best regards, Fred B. Allyn III
