BROOKE GREVILLE T H E I D G C C O - H O S T The International Day of the Girl Child provides an opportunity for all global citizens, men and women, to support the amazing charities working hard to improve the lives and opportunities for young women and girls in the UK and abroad. It is an honour and a pleasure to be involved in such a great cause. As a father to a little girl, I’m determined to help ensure we live in a more egalitarian world where women grow up with equal rights and the same opportunities that men enjoy. It is a terrible fact that young women across the globe face terrible discrimination and unspeakable abuse simply because of their gender. This means that the true potential of millions of women is never fulfilled because unjust obstacles are put in their way. We all need to do anything that we can to change the course of young women’s lives to allow them to flourish and experience true freedoms so they can achieve their goals. 4 www.TheIDGC.com www.TheIDGC.com

F ounded 54 years ago, Wellbeing of Women is one of the only charities finding cures and treatments across the breadth of female reproductive health including pregnan- cy and childbirth, fertility and IVF, gynaecological cancers, and overlooked areas like endometriosis, PCOS and the menopause. With only 2.48% of publicly funded research devoted to this area, our work is vital. Nearly every routine treatment we take for granted today has come about thanks to our work. 16 www.TheIDGC.com
At BizWorld UK, we believe in inspiring children to do extraordinary things. We know that tomorrow’s jobs and economy are going to be created by the leaders and entrepreneurs we foster today. Not every child will be an entrepreneur when he or she grows up, but we can inspire every child to have an entrepreneurial spirit: to lead con- fidently, think critically and creatively, be financially respon- sible, and understand the value of teamwork. The BizWorld foundation was originally set up in 1997 in Silicon Valley by venture capitalist Tim Draper who saw a need for inspiring entrepreneurship in children. SIMONE TAYLOR F O U N D E R & C E O I n 2015 I was left devastated by a chain of events that led me into a deep state of depression. I was unrecognisable, laying in bed for days at a time and simply believing that my life was over. Starting a business was always a dream of mine but something I never imagined I could achieve. My family were distraught seeing what I had become and were constantly trying to relieve me from my dark thoughts. My aunt knowing my dreams of starting a business constantly mentioned the Princes Trust to me insisting that they helped young people to develop their business ideas and begged me to hear them out. After a lot of persuasion I realised I had nothing left to loose and I went to visit the Trust. I was amazed at how genuine and kind hearted everyone was and how willing they were to help. I enrolled onto the Enterprise Programme which allowed me to gain a real insight to building a business. I attended many workshops with business professionals, constructed a business plan and became a Princes Trust Young Ambassador.
