Creating The Lorax Themed Art– Book Week What fun the Elephants had this morning exploring and creat- ing two different Dr Seuss’ The Lorax themed art to go with our book week theme. Miss Tenneile invited the children to join her at the table where the children had the opportunity to choose if they wanted to paint The Lorax using orange paint first, or use the scrubbing to create The Truffula Tree. Olivia - “I want to do it” Leah— “orange one, please ” Harvey - “Harvey do tree” Each of the children took turns using their fine motor skills as they manipulated the paint brushes to create different line and patterns on their paper. Olivia, Zavya and Leah did such a wonderful job colouring in their Lorax with orange paint, taking their time and doing it so carefully ensuring their did their best to stay in the lines. Well done girls! When creating the Truffula Trees, the children placed pressure onto the paint scrubbing brush and moved it around in circular motions to create their trees! What fun the elephant's had getting creative!
White Board Drawing After we had finished with our art, Jayson found an interest in the white boards. So Miss Tenneile placed all of the white boards and markers on the table for the children to explore. What colours would you like ? Miss Tenneile asked the Ele- phants. Deacon- “Green” Olivia “I want red” Cienna- “Cienna pink please” Jayson- “green” Harvey- “purple” The children focused carefully, placing their markers to the boards as they drew different lines and patterns all over the boards. Harvey began to draw circles, while Jayson drew tiny little squiggles. Drawing allows children to express themselves, their feelings and their thoughts through their art, while also allowing them to work on their fine motor skills as they learn to control their fin- ger grip and movement to the ideas they are expressing.
Quiet Reading When we had finished doing all our morning activi- ties, the Elephants noticed that Miss Tenneile had placed some of our books on the group mat. Keith, Leah, Ferrah, and Harvey all went over to the mat to see what books they could read for some quiet reading before lunch. While doing some reading on the mat Olivia came across a book where she had to find certain objects on the page. Olivia displayed great interest in read- ing this book and finding the different objects. Deacon and Harvey both showed an interest in reading the Cars book together. As I observed Dea- con and Harvey reading the book together they both showed a great interest in taking turns at pointing the pictures out on the pages that they were reading. The Elephants have all taken a great interest in quiet reading at the moment. They have all dis- played how to take great care with the books and always making sure they are looking after them.
