The Note: 6/29/21 AM-Mayra sent Introductions meeting was held virtually via Zoom. Previous Action • Continue timeline development for work plan activities (ongoing). Items(s) • Need to schedule a presentation by Together for Children, and on emotional intelligence and the processing of emotions. Executive Board Chair, Marjorie A. provided the updates from Executive Board 6/14/21 meeting: Action Items: Update • On October 1st, 2021 from 10AM-12PM, the Consortium is hosting a combined Save the Date: 2021 Consortium Annual Awards meeting and Worksite Wellness Awards event virtually. Keynote Annual Event and Worksite speaker will be Dr. Marissa Levine on “Leveraging Community Partnerships to Wellness Awards Ceremony improve Public Health” and Dr. Isaac Prillitensky on “Mindfulness and Wellbeing in hosted virtually on Friday the Workplace. Legislative Report Chair, Marjorie A. provided the following update: • As many of you know, there is an urgent need to increase funding for Medicaid’s home and community based services (HCBS) programs. These programs, which provide an alternative to nursing home care, are terribly underfunded, especially in Florida. • The American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding is only for one year. Florida requested an extension until July 12th for submission of how the state would use the $320 million now available to Florida through the ARP. • No other updates were shared by attendees. Presentation: A 15-minute presentation on Miami-Dade Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team Note: Lt. Calvo’s presentation was Policing and Crisis (CIT) was given by Lieutenant Patrick Calvo, Youth Outreach Unit, Community emailed to EIC member listserv on Intervention Team Affairs Bureau, Miami-Dade Police Department. The presentation covered the 7/6/21 by Mayra G. following main content areas: 1) origins of CIT, 2) statistics related to CIT, 3) the three main process steps for MDPD & CIT, and 4) on scene considerations (e.g., scene security, communication, identification, and disposition. Calvo for his service as a police officer and for the informative presentation about this important MDPD program. (SP: Injury, Safety and Violence – p. 16) • Measure: Did the Elder Issues committee collaborate with the Healthy Baby Taskforce and the Children Issues Committee?… o Activity: …to increase the # of new organizations participating in committee efforts and events. Relates to Consortium strategy to decrease the rate of low birth weight babies. o Activity: …to support community resources and best practices to decrease maternal infant morbidity and mortality. (SP: Injury, Safety and Violence – p. 17) Progress towards these two activities will be gained once the Children Issues (CI) Committee presents to the EIC about their initiatives, and shares community resources and best practices to decrease maternal infant morbidity and mortality. The CI Chair, Alina Soto, is confirmed to present to EIC on 7/27/21. Follow-up discussion can include how seniors (grandparents) can use the information to help increase access to care and improve health outcomes for children and families. CI’s Healthy Baby Taskforce has produced a new social media toolkit Pregnancy and Beyond that is filled with maternal-child health resources and links. Click here to access the toolkit online.
