Please take advantage of the great resources and conversations to be had with our counselor, Briana Renich at brenich@usd259.net. TUTORING Tutoring is available by arrangement with your teacher. PARENT AND STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES Progress must be made towards completion of courses. All students are expected to maintain continuous academic improvement. Students will be evaluated on an ongoing basis. If a student repeatedly fails to progress, the teacher may request the administration to evaluate the student situation and make recommendations. Students who fail to successfully complete all courses with passing grades may be exited to their base school. Parents are responsible for students’ learning activities which include planned lessons via online curriculum, teaching lessons, maintaining and submitting attendance logs for each student enrolled in Education Imagine Academy. 6
ATTENDANCE Regular attendance online is both an expectation of our school and directly related to academic achievement. KSDE (Kansas Department of Education) requirements for Virtual Learning encourage students to work a minimum of six (6) hours each day in their coursework. If you are unable to attend to your schoolwork for a period of more than 5 days, you must make contact with the office and your teacher to let them know why you are unable to work. Lack of online attendance and failure to make progress in coursework may result in truancy notification protocols being set in motion and is grounds for dismissal. Note: Falling behind in daily coursework makes it difficult to catch up. If you anticipate an absence of any length of time, please plan to work ahead if possible. REPORTING TRUANCY The mission of the Truancy Program Office is to assist in providing a unified school and community effort towards quick response to negative school attendance and educational neglect issues by identifying, developing and implementing plans and procedures to assure that all students learn the skills and acquire the knowledge necessary for success at continuing states of their lives. Board Policy 1460 – Pupil Attendance: Regular school attendance is required of all pupils enrolled in elementary and secondary schools under Kansas Compulsory Attendance Statue (KSA 72-1111). The Kansas Compulsory School Attendance Law holds parents responsible for requiring a child under their control or charge who is between seven (7) and less then eighteen (18) years of age to attend school on a continuous basis. Board Policy 1461- Reporting Process – Pupils Not Attending School and Inexcusably Absent Pupils (Truants): In compliance with requirements of the Kansas Compulsory School Attendance Law, reports shall be filed with appropriate authorities when a child is not enrolled in a public school or non-public school or when a child is enrolled in school and is inexcusably absent. 5, 7, 9 Rule: Inexcusably absent for a substantial part of a school day is either five (5) consecutive school days, or seven (7) school days in any given semester or nine (9) school days in any given year, whichever of the aforementioned occurs first. COMMUNICATION The staff’s responsibility is to assist students and parents through their instructional plan. Staff members are available to students via email, phone, or in person at the school. You can call and leave a message; however, email is faster. Students should expect a response from your teacher within one (1) full school day. 7
ASSESSMENTS STATE ASSESSMENTS All students are required to attend scheduled testing sessions for their grade level. Students failing to attend assessments will lose their special transfer to Education Imagine Academy. STANDARDIZED TESTING Wichita Public Schools requires that all students participate in FastBridge testing at least two to three times a school year; fall, winter, and spring. Education Imagine Academy may also require additional testing to best meet the needs of individual students. PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent/Teacher Conferences will occur twice a year. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate each time. To help students find success, individual conferences may also be required outside of these school- wide conferences for students who are failing to make progress. ADEQUATE PROGRESS There is never a reason a student and parent should not know exactly what assignments he or she needs to complete to finish a class on time. It is the expectation of Education Imagine Academy that parents will play an active role in their student’s education. GRADES Grades will be posted at the end of each quarter on each student’s academic achievement record with USD259. Partial credits will not be awarded. PLAGIARISM Plagiarism is taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as your own. Students or parents cannot copy and paste answers, essays, or any part of an assignment from any source, including websites and use them as your own. All work submitted must represent the student’s original ideas and the student will appropriately cite all relevant sources if it is not completely original. Failure to do so can result in receiving a failing grade for the assignment and possibly for the course. No other person, student or adult, can complete any portion of an assignment, activity or exam or make revisions to any assignment, activity or exam. Doing so will result in a failing grade. 8
GRADING PERIODS Students are responsible for having the work finished and turned in by the end of the school day, 3:00 PM on the last student workday of each nine weeks. All papers requiring grading must be turned into the digital drop box where it will be time stamped and students and parents can see that the file was successfully uploaded. Always keep a copy on your computer until grades have been issued. Any resubmitted assignments are due on the second to last day of the quarter by 3:00 p.m. SAFETY BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS Students are expected to be respectful to all staff and students and to follow the school rules, both on and off campus. Students are guests in a community building and will be held to a high standard of behavior. Disrespectful and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. If a student continues to not cooperate with staff and not follow the rules, parents will be contacted to pick up their student. Continued misbehavior can result in student’s special transfer being revoked. Possible cause for loss of special transfer and/or disciplinary hearing includes the following: ● Disrespecting staff or other students ● Disruptive behavior ● Cheating ● Repeated failure to wear official student ID ● Inappropriate usage of the Internet and/or computer ● Vandalism and destruction of school property ● Vulgar language, profanity, obscene gestures, fighting ● Using/possessing narcotics, drugs, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances ● Theft/robbery ● Possessing a weapon ● Fighting CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT Children, toddlers, and babies are not allowed to be in the classroom during orientations, tutoring, or test proctoring. A student who is not dressed appropriately will be sent home. The appropriateness of student dress will always be up to the discretion of the administration.
