Leaping is fundamental to Easter. FROM A PASTOR TO HIS PEOPLE The bunny hops, does it not? Read the last set of vers- es of the song Lord of the Dance (page 7 below). We could add to Gregory's quote. From the tomb Jesus leapt back to the earth to be with his disciples. From the earth he leapt up to Heaven; from Heaven he leapt down into the Eucharist; from the Eucharist he leapt (and leaps) into our hearts. If ever there is a day we should dance and leap, it is Easter Sunday. This is our triumphant day. Christ, the all-powerful God, is alive. He is alive in our Church and alive in our hearts. An Easter Message from Cardinal THE TASSEL Cupich Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, OF THE CLOAK As we walk on our life journeys in this world, we may often feel overwhelmed. SUNDAY YOUR WORSHIP AID In the First Reading, from the Acts of the Apostles (10:34-43), Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit and with a renewed sense of confidence, stands up and boldly and retells the story of Jesus’ baptism, his public ministry, death and Resurrection. Peter lists himself as a witness to all these wondrous events. He concludes by stating that all—through faith and repentance—now have access to the salvation that Jesus has come to bring. The Second Reading is from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (5:6-8). Recalling the Jewish Passover that Jesus performed as a memorial of his own saving death, the apostles instructs his community: “Get rid of the old yeast to make of yourselves fresh dough, unleavened loaves.” Those who share in the feast must put aside everything that is corrupt, like the old leaven that Paul calls “the yeast of malice and wickedness.” The Gospel Reading for Easter Sunday is from the Gospel of John (20:1-9). The Gospel states that Jesus’ disciples still did not understand the Scripture, a comment that reminds us of another scene in the Gospel of John. When Jesus was in Jerusalem for the celebration of Passover, he had said: “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The evangelist explains that Jesus was speaking of the temple of his body, and that when Jesus was raised form the dead, his disciples remembered, and “they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.” Yet, neither the empty tomb nor the burial cloths give them the understanding of the scriptures. The risen Jesus himself will provide the understanding. —Fr. WORSHIP AID FOR CHILDREN DEAR CHILDREN & PARENTS We are so happy you are here at Saint Juliana for Mass! We encourage you to sit up in the front pews so you can see what is happening. Also feel free to sit up in the balcony. Parents, don’t worry if you come in late or need to go to the back for a timeout, and especially don’t worry if you make noise during the service. Your presence adds so much to our community. Children, feel free to use this page to color during Mass and take home with you. We hope your family experiences Jesus!
