LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT DIVION OF ADULT AND CAREER EDUCATION EAST LOS ANGELES OCCUPATIONAL CENTER COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY CLASS OF 2020
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Congratulations to the ELAOC Class of 2020. Graduation is more than wearing a cap and gown and walking across the stage to get your diploma. Graduation is something greater. It signifies that you are starting the next phase of your life and more importantly it is a celebration of your accom- plishments, commitment, hard work, and sacrifices. Therefore, we cele- brate every one of you on your educational achievements even in these difficult times. Your class has the unique distinction of being the first graduate class of the decade. Additionally, you will be forever remembered as the class who triumphed over the barriers of a global pandemic and civil unrest. You have clearly proven to yourself that nothing can ever stop you from achieving your goals and your persistence will open the doors of oppor- tunity. And if there is a lesson to be learn during this time, it is that “there is an opportunity in every crisis and the deeper the crisis, the better the opportunity can be.” You just need to look. But I encourage you to also take some time to reflect on how far you have gotten since you first at- tended East Los Angeles Occupational Center. Thinking about “what’s next?” can be very daunting. It is reasonable to have the time to regroup and put your priorities in order. Just remember that ELAOC will always be here when you are ready to act on how you will go and Change the World! Congratulations once again, Graduates of 2020! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of one of your greatest accomplishments. Keep striving to reach new goals and to re- main positive during the hard times, I prom- ise you that you will go far! I wish you the very best and much success in your next ad- venture! Sincerely, Vladimir Tigno
Believing in You Poet: Catherine Pulsifer, ©1997 Never stop believing in yourself. Your mind is powerful. When others doubt, don't you. When you believe you can. Do what you love to do, You will find a way No one knows better than you. You won't waste a day. Life is too short to live others' dreams Persist and persevere Follow your own dream Do not fear Push yourself to reach your goals Because if you believe in you And live the life you once dreamed. You will find dreams can come true. Trust your instincts. May all your dreams turn into goals, Be true to yourself. Believe in yourself. You know what is right for you. And remember, all of life is a choice. Never give up or give in. The decision is up to you. Forget the words "I don't know how". Believe in Yourself, Dare To Be You can learn, Whatever You Want To Be! You can research, You can do.
