Delroy Campus – Year 7 Transition Evening Dubbo College Delroy Campus News A Successful, Innovative and Caring Education for your Child East Street DUBBO NSW 2830 Phone: 6882 7955 Fax: 6881 8749 Email: delroy-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au Web: www.dubbocoll-m.schools.nsw.edu.au Issue 1 Term 1 Week 3 Wednesday 10th February 2015 Back from holidays... …… and Yay, Year 7 2016 ready for school at Delroy Campus From the Principal... Welcome to 2016 at Delroy! It is shaping up for a great year! We have all our staffing in place and we welcome a wonder- ful group of new Year 7 students and a special warm welcome to students and their families who are new to Dubbo or the College. We will welcome Year 7 and new enrolments, students and parents, this evening, Wednesday 10th February, at 6.30pm. We began the term on Wednesday 27th January with a staff development day. The morning was a combined college session focusing on the use of feedback to improve learning outcomes. In the afternoon all staff were taken through the Department’s Code of Conduct, then time was devoted to faculty meetings and planning for 2016. New staff undertook an induction program with Ms Smith and Mrs Budden. On Thursday we welcomed Year 7 who seamlessly transitioned into the school. I recognise the huge effort of Miss Bermingham and our staff who ran the transition program last year, it has certainly paid off. Students in Years 8 to 10 began on Friday and is was so fabulous to see everyone in school uniform! This is the expectation everyday. Wearing school uniform is an important part of the Delroy community and there is no reason why students cannot wear school uniform every day. If you have financial difficulties which prevents you from purchasing uniforms please contact the school and speak with the deputies. Centrelink also assist with education costs in the form of the Schoolkids Bonus. All year groups this year will be participating in year excursions which their Year Advisers are busily planning. As soon as that is finalised, information sheets and costs will be provided to the students. All students are expected to participate in these activities as they help build self-confidence, resilience, self-esteem, as well as cooperation and collaboration which are very important life and work skills as well, of course, being a lot of fun! It is a sensible idea to pay the costs of these excursions on payment a plan with the school. The SRC will be organising fundraising events to help offset these costs.

At the “Welcome” assembly last Friday I spoke of the importance of our students developing a strong value system that will enable them to make ethical decisions to allow them to take their place in the world as someone who will make a positive contribution to their community, make good choices and will display empathy for others. It is important we learn to care deeply about others. I showed a superb ad from the UOB bank which as titled “Our values define us”. The message was: HONESTY is not encoded in our genes It is the role of Public Education to not only teach RESPECT is not written in our DNA content but, with parents, to help students develop You won’t find PERSEVERANCE reproducing in the body, like cells these values so they become good citizens of our or LOYALTY hiding in your blood stream world. It doesn’t matter how we begin, In the end our values define us…. Respect: I also spoke about the Australian of the Year for 2016 Lieutenant –General David Morrison and referred to his 2013 speech to the Australian Army. The message he gave applies also to our school. That is; we are an INCLUSIVE organisation. We strive always to reach our POTENTIAL and allow others to do so. We do not DEMEAN or EXPLOIT others and we do not tolerate BULLYING. I encourage you to have a look at that speech on youtube. During first semester the school will be undergoing a little “sprucing up” with new blinds, carpet and painting in some areas. This follows the installation of watering system in the front of the school which occurred in the school holidays. Currently the hall floor is being sanded and re-lacquered with new line marking. It is very exciting and pleasing indeed! Delroy is full of OPPORTUNITY for students, so I urge all students to take advantage of this. Get fully involved in school life and have an awesome 2016! Mrs Debbie Head Principal FROM THE DEPUTY’S DESK Welcome back to 2016. I hope everyone had a great holiday and are well rested to start another busy year. Just some information you may need to remember: Mr Braithwaite is Deputy Principal of Years 7 and 9 and Miss Bermingham is Deputy Principal of Years 8 and 10. Don’t forget to be prepared for the swimming carnival which will be on Tuesday 23 rd February. Please remember to bring a note to school if you have been away. Keep remembering what DELROY stands for so you can collect your tickets for Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Most importantly do the best that you can do in all areas of your school life. Have a great term. Miss Kathryn Bermingham Deputy Principal

This year alone, the global market for 3D printers is expected to grow by 56 per cent, putting its worth at US$5.2 billion. And by 2019, forecast experts Canalys are predicting the market will quadruple in value to US$20.2 billion. Canalys research analyst Joe Kempton notes that over the coming years ‘3D printers will continue to fall in price and im- prove in speed and quality,’ making it easier for individual consumers to use this new technology. It seems that by 2030, it’s quite possible 3D printers will become as commonplace as the dishwasher or toaster in some homes, so it makes sense that we’ll need an army of technicians to both fix our 3D printers, and also help us to maximise their usage. Imagine, for instance, the kitchen sink’s broken. Rather than ordering the necessary spare part, a 3D printer handyman can print the part right there and then, and fix up that leaky tap of yours! Skills you’ll need for this job: 3D printing (knowledge of both hardware and software) Fleur Mara Careers Team Industrial design
