DSOL NEWS 2021 Springl Edition Dallas Symphony Orchestra League presents Savor the Symphony April 29 Savor the Symphony The hybrid event allows ticketholders to choose where they will dine at home or at the Ritz-Carlton Patrons of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League’s annual Savor the Symphony were disappointed last year when the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 precautions in place at that time. This year the fundraiser will be held as a hybrid event – ticket holders can enjoy the event in person at the Ritz-Carlton or they can opt to have their three-course dinner delivered to their home Symphony Orchestra League and making superior quality fine wines with the event program streamed has held several positions over from attentively farmed Texas directly to them. the years. The President’s Message Dear Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Members, I would like to express my gratitude to the many DSOL members and volunteers who are supporting our mission in such an impactful way. Thank you to all who joined throughout this unusual year, and many thanks to our membership chair, Sarah Frazee Mills, for her hard work. As I look back over our fall events, I am inspired by the resilient “can do” attitudes of our event chairs. Their creative problem-solving solutions were exciting to witness! Fashion Notes was a huge success, thanks to Karen Cox. Karen was a fearless leader and brought the event together in such a tasteful manner with great food and fashion! We were fortunate to celebrate another in-person event at the Dallas Country Club; Dorothea Meltzer and Nancy Connor created a safe and lovely Membership Tea full of colorful flowers, music, and fellowship among members. A special thank you goes to our Presentation Ball chair, Mari Epperson, for her vision, passion, and tireless work on the ball. Unfortunately, we could not have the ball this year, but we are looking forward to brighter days ahead. Over the holidays, our team of Junior Symphony Ball chairs organized a food drive for the students and families in the DSO music programs. Thank you to Allison Muncy, Tish Key, Suzy Calvert, Liz Kelly, Debbie Robinowitz, Paula Wills, Justine Sweeney, Angela Jackson, and Alyson Jackson for collecting five carloads of food! As COVID-19 numbers spiked throughout the winter months, our events continued online. In February, Dixey Arterburn and Ginger Sager brought us face-to-face with the precious children in the Young Musicians program via the “A Major” Chat virtual event. It was terrific to connect with the students, listen to them play, and hear how the program has made a difference in their lives. We are grateful for those in attendance and their generous donations. On March 15, Becky Todd successfully brought food, wine, and fantastic music to our members’ homes at the Noteworthy Night event. Everyone enjoyed the event as they listened to the peaceful and moving entertainment provided by the DSO musicians; we appreciate Becky’s hard work and are thankful for the assistance from the tech team at the DSO. On March 6, it was an honor to work with Carrie Denson at the Meyerson as we served the talented students participating in the Friedlander Competition. I’d encourage all members to attend any future event featuring a Young Strings performer; these students are exceptional musicians! Listening to them perform is a wonderful way to remember that our work as an organization matters in the most profound way. DSOL Newsletter The DSOL newsletter is printed 3 times per year by the DSOL. The deadlines are: August 1, 2021, December 1, 2021; March 1, 2022. With the help of Allison Brodnax, we arranged an Orchestra Appreciation event on March 30 and provided goodie bags for our orchestra members. On the 29th of April, we will enjoy our annual Savor the Symphony event. We are fortunate to have the innovative Sharon Ballew as our Savor the Symphony chair and long-time supporter Roberta Corbett as our honorary chair; we look forward to an evening with friends as we enjoy delicious food and wine. Members may assist by donating wine for the wine pull or items for the Savor auction. Another volunteer opportunity will be the Lynn Harrell Competition on April 17, chaired by Susan Fisk and Rebecca Vanyo. On May 4, Sharon Walker will help organize our group as we attend the TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon. Our year will round out as the creative Jolie Humphrey chairs the Encore Luncheon in May; more information is coming soon! This is a different year but wonderful in so many ways. Even though we have not attended as many parties as usual, the music has continued for the children in the DSO’s programs. Over the year, they have grown as musicians and enjoyed the rewards of mastering an instrument. I am proud to be connected to this important mission, and I am constantly in awe of the intelligent and dedicated group of women in the DSOL. I am optimistic that we will have a wonderful spring and look forward to seeing you all soon! Sincerely, Anne Anne Ligon DSOL President 2020-2021 www.dallassymphonyleague.com Save the Date! Spring P EO P L E T O S E E Orchestra Appreciation Luncheon The DSOL was not able to host the traditional Orchestra Appreciation Luncheon due to covid limitations, so a group of volunteers gathered at the Meyerson on March 30 to stuff goodie bags for each orchestra member. Each member received a bottle of wine, a Starbucks gift card, chocolate, and a hand- written note from a DSOL member expressing appreciation. Many thanks to our helpful volunteers: Kim Brannon, Allison Brodnax, Dina Steele, Dixie Marshall, Susan Fisk, Sharon Walker, Nancy Labadie, and Jennifer Olson.
