Donation Station Information 2021 “In all the work that you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you are doing it for the Lord.” Colossians 3:23
The Donation Station is a Christ The King Lutheran Church (CTK) resale funding endeavor, run solely by volun- teers. It is not consignment- based, as all profit from donated items goes to CTK. Carol Cashmer began the Donation Station in 2008. It ran out of Buildings #9 and #10 on the Pennsylvania Road campus until October 2019. The city of Southgate asked us to move because we did not possess a permanent certificate of occupancy. At that time, the Dona- tion Station moved to its new location in the Administration Building. Besides providing Third Source Funding income for CTK, the Donation Station affords a way to serve by providing low- cost goods to the community, as well as an opportunity for over 30 volunteers to work weekly in meaningful ministry. Oft times, the Donation Station gives away merchandise to people in needy circumstances, such as house fires, COVID- related needs, toys at Christmas, etc. The Donation Station also strives to be an outreach ministry by interacting with community shoppers in a Christ-like manner, and by distrib- uting Christian pamphlets and informational CTK Church handouts. The Donation Station also offers interested shoppers a “Salvation Bible Study,” taught by Carol Cashmer on the 4th Thursday of every month, beginning May 27, 2021, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Admin. Building kitchen. So many of our shoppers are spiritual seekers, but are not ready to vis- it a church. The purpose of this study is to help people under- stand what the Bible says concerning salvation. Hopefully, this “Good News” will lead people to find a church home where they can grow in their faith and fellowship with other believers in worship. 2

New volunteers are in- terviewed by the Donation Station Director in an effort to match their interests and Spiritual Gifts to the needs of the Station. They are also given a copy of the Donation Station Information Booklet with a clear explanation of the CTK Mission Statement, and the Conflict Resolution sections. Generally, volunteers receive “on the job” training from other volunteers. 3
Physical Locations on Campus Currently, the Donation Station occupies two buildings on the Pennsylvania Campus, (9 and 10), three outside overhangs (9, 10, and 11), along with the warehouse section, three storage rooms, and one office room in the Admin- Donation Station: Building #9 and Overhang #9 The Donation Station is directly across from the Early Childhood Center. Enclosed Overhang #9 is a 24-hour small household items donation drop-off site. These donated items are taken into Building #9, sorted and held until they are taken to the Resale Station for sale. Department heads and volunteers work out of this building. Shoppers are not al- lowed in Building #9, and no community sales can be held out of this building. Storage Station: Building #10 and Overhangs #10 and #11 The Storage Station building is on the south side of the campus. It is where shoppers pick up furniture, appliances, Craig’s List purchases, etc. The Storage Station has no heat or electricity, so its accessibility varies depending on weather. Sales out of this building are limited, for the most part, to large items. Walk-ins and pick-ups are the norm on sale days. The open overhangs to the west and south side of building #10 are drop-off areas for Storage Station donations only. Resale Station The Resale Station is located on the west side of the Administra- tion Building adjacent to the west parking lot on the north side of the campus. This is where shoppers come on sale days to pur- chase sale items. No one should sell or purchase items out of the Storage Station, Donation Station, Overhangs, or Resale Station without letting the Storage Station Managers and/or the Dona- tion Station Director know. Many of these items may already be on Craig’s List. 4

Job Descriptions For the most part, the Donation Station is run by dedicated retired volunteers whose interest, time constraints, health, and involvement vary. The following job descriptions reflect current responsibilities, but in practice the responsibilities can be fluid. Donation Station Director: Carol Cashmer, 2008-2021 The Donation Station Director must be a member in good standing of Christ The King Lutheran Church. She presently oversees the day-to-day running of the Donation Station. This includes: over- seeing sale day readiness, scheduling cashiers, working as head cashier for all sale days, deciding on and advertising promotional information, attending weekly Program Staff meetings, writing Constant Contact reminders, Weekly Receipts, and the Weekly Memo. The director also helps organize pick-ups, is the primary volunteer recruiter and trainer, and schedules the biannual Com- munity Sale work force. Currently, the Director also works two hours every weekday and Sunday overseeing the pricing and shelv- ing of all items not covered by other department heads. She also organizes and works with volunteers every Tuesday from 10:00 – 12:00 and composes, posts, and follows up on Craig’s List ads. The Donation Station Director is the liaison between the Donation Sta- tion, Program Staff, and all other CTK ministries. 6
Assistant Director: Nancy Gyorke, 2010-2021 The Donation Station Assistant Director must be a member in good standing of Christ The King Lutheran Church. She works closely with the Director in organization, planning, and promo- tion. She also researches project costs and often acts as project manager. She periodically purchases day-to-day items, oversees the biannual Community Sales Concessions and Baked Goods, and procures Porta Potties for same. In addition, she determines and directs the physical shelf schematics of the Resale Station, and oversees the Resale signage project. She cleans and sanitizes Resale Station floors, carts, adjacent rooms, and break area. She often oversees the cleaning and maintenance of Overhang #9, and currently is the department head for adult clothing. The Assistant Director takes over the duties of the Donation Station Director, when needed. CTK Facilities Manager: Dale Tamsen, 2018-2021 The CTK Facilities Manager must be a member in good standing of Christ The King Lutheran Church. This is a paid CTK position and not officially connected to the Donation Station. The Facilities Manager is responsible to oversee all things related to buildings and grounds on both CTK campus- es. This includes property maintenance, landscaping, painting, mowing, parking lots, roofs, repairs, and contract research. In addition, he oversees Toolbelt Tuesday volunteers, as well as vetting and overseeing Community Court workers. The Donation Station does not fall under the responsibility of the Facilities Manager. However, since we share much of the space on the Pennsylvania Campus, we often work together to accomplish CTK ministry goals. The help given to the Dona- tion Station by the Facilities Manager is voluntary and not part of his official job description. For example, the Facility Manager and his volunteers often help with furniture pickups, garbage and scrap disposal, carpentry help, etc., when able. 7

Conflict Resolution Policy Even with the best of intentions and the best of situations, people will sometimes experience conflict. When a conflict or offense arises, we attempt to follow Jesus’ formula spelled out in Matthew 18 to resolve the problem. Matthew 18:15-17 “If your broth- er sins against you, go and show him his fault - just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimo- ny of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan.” Translation: If you have a problem with an in- dividual, talk to them about it personally, and not to anyone else. If this does not resolve the problem, add another Chris- tian brother or sister to the conversation, and try to iron out the problem. If this does not work, call in the Donation Sta- tion Director to meet with all concerned parties to try to solve the problem. If this does not work, add the Pastor and/ or other people, who may be helpful to the group and, hope- fully, a mutually acceptable solution can be reached. These procedural steps are not iron-clad. The order may vary, but the goal is to help everyone feel they have been heard, and that a Christ-pleasing solution has been reached. As always, approach any confrontational situation with kindness, empathy, and prayer. “When Scripture is mixed with obedience, a healing elixir results.” Max Lucado 11
General Information 2020-2021 COVID Policies The Donation Station has always followed CDC guidelines concerning COVID. We sanitize carts, fog the Resale Station, have 6-foot markers on floor, have workers sign a COVID information sheet each sale day, and mandate mask wearing. Donation Station Sale Hours, 2021 Hours may vary, due to weather, emergencies, holidays. However, presently, the 2021 hours are: Thursdays: Resale and Storage Station Open: 12:00 - 2:00 Fridays: Storage Station Open: 12:00 - 3:00 & 5:00 - 6:00 Resale Station Open: 5:00 - 6:00 Saturdays: Resale Station/Storage Station Open: 10:00 - 12:00 Keys/Codes Keys and codes are distributed and recorded by the Fa- cilities Manager only. This list is updated continually. If you no longer need a key, please turn it in to Dale Tamsen ASAP. Keys are not to be copied or loaned out. For a list of those who have keys or codes, contact Dale Tamsen. Garbage Removal The Donation Station pays for one dumpster on the north edge of the soccer field. We may use other dumpsters on either church property site if we don’t overfill them. Mondays are good days to use the dumpsters as they are emptied on Tuesday mornings. Peri- odically, we pay for a commercial dumpster to get rid of large items. Merchandise Holding/Buying Procedure Volunteers are welcome to purchase donated items. Generally, it is thought that if you put in 5- 10 hours of volunteer time a week, you may pur- chase items up to $20 at half price. Department Heads may decide on a percentage breaks on the price of items over $20. Remember our monetary goal is to support the needs and ministries of CTK, so use your discount privileges with that in mind. When you purchase something, let the Depart- ment Head know what it was, and he/she will let the Director know. This is so important because often items are advertised on Craig’s List and are being held for pick-up. If you do not let some- one know you bought something, Department Heads may wonder about loss or theft. 12
Online Book Purchase Nancy and Sara Kurtz have categorized hun- dreds of books that people may purchase online. Once a shopper orders books online, Sara and Nancy pack them up and bring them to the Resale Station for payment and pick-up on sale days. Visit us at Facebook @ Resalesta- tionmedia to view/order books, CDs or movies. Weekly Communiqués Weekly Information Memo A Weekly Memo, written by the Donation Station Director, goes out on Wednesdays after Program Staff meeting to all Department Heads and Program Staff. It is a chance to keep everyone in the loop concerning projects, direction, funding requests, church goals, general information, and prayer con- cerns. Anyone can add items to this memo, but they must get the information to the Director by 8:00 p.m. Tuesday even- ing. Prayer concerns especially are always welcome. Weekly Receipt Memo Every Saturday the weekly income report is sent to all volun- teers and leaders via e-mail titled “Weekly Receipts.” Tri-Weekly Constant Contact Information This CTK professional program is an e- mail sent to over 1,400 shoppers who have requested reminders concerning promotion- al giveaways, sales, and hours. It also ex- plains how to use the online book sale op- tion, COVID policies, and other pertinent facts. It goes out the day before each Thurs- day, Friday, and Saturday sale. If you would like to be added to any or all of these weekly communiques, please contact carol@ctk.me or 734-281-3773. 13
Money Disbursement and Expenditures The financial side of the Donation Station is presently overseen by Stacy Furgerson, CTK’s Business Manager. The Donation Station Director in conjunction with other Department Heads may designate usage of funds up to $2,500 for day-to-day opera- tional expenses or for special purchases without higher level approval. Any major project costing over $2,500 must be approved by the Senior Pastor and Pro- gram Staff. Any project costing over $25,000 must be pre- sented and approved by CTK members at a scheduled CTK Voters’ Meeting. Occasionally, requests are taken for money not designated for CTK ministries. The Non-CTK Money Request Commit- tee, made up of Tom and Jeri Bloomfield and Harry Dutka, reviews these requests and presents their recommendations to Program Staff for approval. For example, the committee has recommended and Program Staff has approved a $200 yearly donation to Samaritan’s Purse since 2018. The Program Staff has sanctioned a yearly donation of $10,000 to Christ The King Lutheran School. The Donation Station Director and volunteers are very pleased to be able to support this most important spoke of Christ The King ministries. A list of the larger donations to date is found on page 15 of this booklet. For a detailed account of how the Donation Sta- tion money is distributed, check the monthly CTK newsletter and/or talk to our Business Manager, Stacy Furgerson. 14
