Mussenden will take us through textile design, collaboration with art department, inspiration, and production of the dresses and crown, all of which are in relation to character development. Crowns worm by Jadis the White Witch, played by Tilda Swinton, and other characters from this film, can be found inside Bowers' special exhibition, All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives. Learn More Yinka Shonibare - Nelson's Ship in a Bottle January 12 Introduction to Contemporary Art What is contemporary art and when does it begin? What is the difference between Modern and Contemporary? This first class in this series will answer these questions while introducing some of the major preoccupations of art in the 20th century. January 19 The Disappearing Object: Sculpture, Assemblage, Collage and Installation The lecture will trace the evolution of sculpture in contemporary art through a selection of artists to include Gordon Matta-Clark, Eleanor Anton, David Hammons, Robert Gober, Cady Noland, Thomas Hirschhorn and Yinka Shonibare. January 26 "This is Not to Be Looked at": Conceptual Art and New Media In the 1960s very broad set of responses to modernist art coalesced around what came to be called "conceptual art," art that challenged conventional definitions and practices of art and sought to re-examine the age-old divide between art and life. February 2 "It's Not Me, It's You": Relational Aesthetics The subject of this lecture will center on an exhibition in 1995 called "Traffic" in which the French curator Nicolas Bourriard decided to call a seemingly new approach to art, "relational aesthetics," based on the idea of a viewer-oriented experimental encounter. February 9 Art without Borders: Global Vanguards In examining the work of global contemporary artists, this lecture will trace some of the overlapping concerns shared as well as the artistic strategies that have come to define what contemporary art without borders looks like. February 16 Painting is Dead. Long Live Painting! This final lecture in the series will explore painting in the latter part of the 20th century and in the early 21st. This program includes a post-screening, “to-go” chocolate tasting. Directed by Tanya Chuturkova, Chocolate Road is a discovery of where chocolate comes from. Three renowned chocolatiers, Maribel Lieberman, Susumu Koyama and Mikkel Friis-Holm take us through the process of craft chocolate-making, starting from the plantations and all the way to the final chocolate piece. On their journey, each of them finds how important it is to know the roots of their prime material, the cacao bean, and the social impact of the people involved in the chocolate production chain.

Mr. Davis, author of 22 books, anthropologist and explorer-in-residence for National Geographic, spent over a decade conducting research and interviews to write this epic mountaineering story. Winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize and the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction in 2012, this book recounts the physical and geographic challenges and mental fortitude involved when these remarkable men climb the world's highest mountain. 655 pages, illustrated, published in 2011. Docent led tour of the exhibit, Everest: Ascent to Glory, follows each discussion. Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory and the Conquest of Everest is available to purchase at the Gallery Store.
