Spearheading a whole-of-government approach to visitor economy growth, Destination NSW is responsible for leading the delivery of the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2030 in partnership with government and industry. A particular focus is on driving tourism and acquiring and developing major sporting and cultural events for Sydney and regional NSW. Destination NSW influences and shapes the visitor economy through strategic research, policy and thought leadership, stakeholder engagement and consultation, commercial partnerships and investment in visitor experiences, business support, marketing and events. In addition, Destination NSW is the major investor in Business Events Sydney with the aim to secure more international and domestic conventions, incentive travel reward programs, corporate events and exhibitions. The Events business unit is responsible for developing and delivering a distinctive and compelling events calendar that positions Sydney as the events capital of the Asia-Pacific. Investing in a world-class events calendar to maximise the economic and social benefits to NSW is a key strategic pillar of the Visitor Economy Strategy 2030. Upcoming major events include the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022, UCI World Road Racing Championships 2022, ATP Tennis World Team Cup, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and Sydney WorldPride 2023.
Project Manager - Sporting World Cups and Sydney WorldPride Reporting to the Director, Event Acquisition and Development - Culture, Entertainment & Creative Industries for Sydney WorldPride 2023 and the Director, Event Acquisition and Development - Sport and Destination Events for the World Cup events, the Project Manager will lead and project manage the NSW Government’s event investment in these major events. The role is responsible for ensuring all NSW Government requirements are delivered in accordance with the Host City Agreements and/or Strategic Investment Agreements and to lead stakeholder management and government cross-agency coordination for the delivery of World Cups and Sydney WorldPride 2023. High level implementation and project management will be a significant focus for the role, working to maximise the event benefits to the NSW visitor economy. To be considered for this role you will be a highly skilled project manager, “chameleon-like” in your ability to adapt to changes in events, competing demands, timelines and priorities while utilising your superior communication skills swiftly building relationships and credibility with stakeholders including Local Organising Committees, NSW Government Steering Committees and Working Groups. You will be the champion for these events leading inter-agency planning and cross- government co-ordination. You must be comfortable leading, conversing and influencing people at all levels and come to the role with a clear understanding of government investment in major events. The successful candidate will be an individual that possesses drive, passion, initiative and enjoys thinking on their feet, working in a dynamic and demanding environment seamlessly navigating through changing and often competing priorities and deadlines under pressure. You will be a quick thinker and able to solve problems on the run without compromising the event deliverables and commercial impact on the tourism visitor economy. You will need to have relevant experiences gained at similar scaled programs or events, with an emphasis across high level contract management, monitoring and analysis of key deliverables, overseeing governance, budget management and event activation projects. Hours of Work Residency & Immigration This is a full time position.
