December 2014 Student of the Month Assemblies Friday, December 19th, 2014 Periods 1,2,3,8 Period 1: 7:25-8:15 AM Water House: Teams 4,6,11 Team 4: Rip Tide Bietta Laflamme This young lady is able to balance many things in her life. She is a hard worker both in academics and in her personal life as indicated by the many things she enjoys and does for her family and community. When she has free time and that time is limited, she spends it babysitting, helping her family around the house, horseback riding and just hanging out with friends. But it's what she does with her other times that makes her stand out. Her quiet demeanor in school is certainly not reflective of her on stage presence. She brings the community together with song and dance. She has, "jumped ahead of the breadline", danced with a bunch of green ogres and sung about hope, that only the sun coming up tomorrow can bring. She is an inspiration to young girls who see her performances at Prescott Park and the Palace Theater and imagine themselves in her shoes. Her ability to balance all the items on her plate while expressing kindness and care in our school community and the community at large influences others to do the same. She reminds us that dreams are possible. We are proud to have selected Bietta LaFlamme as Team Four's Student of the Month.
Michael Provenzano This young man is known in his social studies class as, “The Mayor”, because of his outgoing personality and willingness to be friendly with all his peers. He always displays a positive attitude, is extremely thoughtful and works well with others. He is a mature, level-headed individual who is eager to extend his help to others. His tireless work ethic is evident in the classroom where he puts forth outstanding effort and is always enthusiastic to share his thoughts and ideas. He is a hard working student and also a self-motivator. Outside of the school, he enjoys playing with his friends and spends a lot of time on the soccer field. Undoubtedly, the overall Team 4 culture is enhanced by his contributions. As you can see, we think very highly of this student and it is our privilege to congratulate Mikey Provensano. Team 6: Tidal Wave
Hadley Raymond When this student enters the room she always has a smile on her face and a peaceful disposition. She consistently demonstrates a positive attitude with her teachers and friends. Whether it is working diligently during team time on homework, playing lacrosse with her team mates on the field, or reading her favorite book quietly on her own, this girl enjoys everything she does. She places great value on the quality of work she submits as well as the quality of time she shares with friends and family. She knows how to keep a healthy balance at a young age which will last a lifetime! Part of the reason for this healthy balance, can probably be attributed to her love of the outdoors. Her involvement in lacrosse and cross-country provide her the opportunity to enjoy being outdoors with her friends and develop healthy habits. With a consistent smile on her face, it is obvious that she is a happy young lady and it is contagious to those around her.For these reasons we are happy to name Hadley Raymond as our student of the month. Andrew McElroy
It is with great pleasure and honor that team 6 celebrates the accomplishments of this student of month. The two things that stand out regarding this student are his remarkable inquisitive mind and how well he works in small groups. Showing maturity beyond his years on a daily basis, this student exhibits the skills and attributes of someone highly deserving of student of the month honors. Simply put, he is a multi-talented seventh grader with a wide array of interest. Whether he’s perfecting his archery or golf skills or honing his strategies at the game of chess, he shows remarkable determination at whatever hobby or sport he wants to tackle. His most recent challenge was learning the french horn as member of the middle school band. It is for these reasons and many more that team 6 teachers are pleased to announce Andrew McElroy as our student of the month. Team 11: Tsunami Emma Atlee A little known fact about our team is that we have a TV star amongst us. Every month you can tune into our local tv station and see this student reporting out at the monthly school board meetings on our school’s and team’s activities, such as field trips, ropes course, and fundraisers. She even takes the initiative to go around to each team in the building and gather the information on her own. She truly is an unsung school hero, and the amount that she cares for our team and school is evident to everyone. It hasn’t gone unnoticed. In the words of one of her classmates: “Whenever I’m behind in a class or a subject, she will put herself out there and try to help, and she seems to do that to whomever she thinks needs that help as well.”
Let’s give it up for our second student of the month, Emma Atlee. Karly Meyer This vibrant young lady is an active member of student council, offering up many great ideas and suggestions. She is excellent at listening to the thoughts of others and building off of them. Just recently, she spent quite a bit of time editing and formatting our promotional “White Out Day” video. She also has been selected to be on the student advisory team to represent the students in a meeting with the principal once a month. Her citizenship is not only limited to helping out the CMS community, but it also extends beyond the school walls. Whether babysitting or helping elderly neighbors, she shows caring and compassion. Recently, team 11 participated in a coin drive to buy holiday toys for kids in need in Exeter. Not only was she one of the many students who helped us raise over a $1,100, but she went above and beyond the call of duty encouraging others to donate. For these reasons and more, Karly Meyer is our first student of the month. Period 2: 8:15-9:10 AM Earth House: Teams 2,8,10 Team 2: Sandstorm
Camilla McAleer Our female Student of the Month is a young lady who doesn’t shy away from hard work. Even when the going gets tough, she takes the extra steps necessary to be successful. Part of her success is due to her insistence on being organized. She is kind, caring, conscientious and compassionate toward others. She plays field hockey, but also enjoys her quiet time. One of her classmates said of her that she “is a very sweet girl. She helps her classmates with their work and is not afraid to ask a question.” Her happy attitude is infectious which makes her classmates and teachers happy to be around her. We are proud to announce our female Student of the Month for Pod 2 is Camilla McAleer. Max Smith Our male Student of the Month is a gentleman whose consistent focus on learning and doing well academically make him a well-respected role model for his classmates. Often quiet, he is always engaged in his work, but he can be called upon at any time, and he is “right on the mark.” He enjoys spending time outside because he says he needs a lot of physical activity, but he also enjoys reading. He’s funny, kind and respectful, with a great
sense of humor. Our hard-working, male Student of the Month for December is Maxwell Smith. Team 8: Landslide Payton Tobey Our December, girl student of the month, is consistently in a good mood. She is the first to offer to help teachers and students alike. When we go outside for recess, she always volunteers to pick up the trash on the field. In the classroom, she helps by volunteering to pass out papers, and assisting other students, etc. Her classmates describe her as “mature, responsible, caring, prepared, respectful, and someone they look up to”. One teammate described her as someone who encourages everyone to be themselves no matter what. Something she does every day. Our December, girl student of the month, is upbeat, happy, and balances the social, emotional, and academic demands of school with grace and a smile. Congratulations go to Payton Tobey. Richard Davis
Our boy student of the month is one that consistently shows his readiness for learning by always arriving to class prepared. On a daily basis his homework is completed and he is ready to learn. He is a consistently conscientious student who does not attract attention to himself. He is patient and yet participative. He allows others to have opportunities and does not try to run the whole show. One classmate described him as being “very friendly and a great person to be around. He is athletic and a good student too. He is very funny and makes me laugh (don’t worry not in class). He is a great person and I’m glad I am friends with him”. A wonderful student to have in the class . . . congratulations go to Richard Davis. Team 10: Earthquake Emily Raynowska This young lady brings a smile to people's faces just by having her around. Her conscientious nature is evident every day. Even though this student keeps herself very busy outside of the classroom, she always puts her academics first. She often participates in class and will work with other students to help them understand the material that is being presented. She is both well- connected with her peers and teachers and many of our Team 10 students look up to her as a role model. It is no wonder why so many of her peers nominated her for student of the month. The teachers of Team 10 are pleased to recognize EMILY RAYNOWSKA for student of the month. RJ Sawyer
This young man is a silent leader who is respected by both his peers and teachers. His regular participation in classroom discussion helps enrich the overall concept being presented. His polite and caring nature are qualities that are consistently displayed on a daily basis. He regularly holds the door open for students heading outside for team time. Also, when our newest team teacher, Ms. Smith, joined our team, this student would regularly help her out with any "technology" issues that would arise. In English class, he constantly volunteers to stay after class and help reorganize the laptops and makes sure they are all plugged in for the next group of students. It is for these reasons that we are happy to nominate RJ SAWYER for student of the month. Period 3: 9:10-10:00 AM Fire House: Teams 3,5,9 Team 3: Spark Annabelle Tan Our next student of the month is one of our top students. When we think of effort and motivation to improve, this student is the first that comes to mind. She stands out with her outstanding work ethic, attention to detail, academic ability, and soft spoken classroom participation. She could probably teach our classes for us! This student enjoys music and currently plays two instruments, the flute and piano. She is also an active after school club member. You may have heard her voice grace the CMS airwaves as she promoted Hope for Humanity or worked with her in the Go Green Club. Students and teachers alike agree that AT rightly deserves to be Team 3's student of the month.
Nicholas Denton Team 3's first student of the month is a kind hearted student who is inquisitive and helpful in the classroom. Recently, when a student needed help and the teacher was busy with other students, he volunteered to help his classmate. He is an active member of the Boy Scouts and where he proudly helps others in the community. His selfless contributions to our pod do not go unnoticed. In fact, on a recent field trip, he purchased a gift for a person that couldn't attend. It is difficult to think of one thing that this boy does not like, however it has been discovered that he hates the smell of McDonald's french fries. His sincere hard working demeanor is appreciated by all of his teachers. Team 3 is pleased to award ND student of the month. Team 5: Wildfire Jenna Jacques Jenna makes us smile with her positive energy and great personality. She is always cooperative, polite, and on task, showing that she values and respects the learning environment. It was a treat to have her help out at the Festival of Trees. She made wonderful ornaments for the tree and was delighted to spend time preparing the tree for viewers. Jenna also was a fantastic help during our hot chocolate and baked goods sale in
downtown Exeter for Kids Who Care. Her enthusiasm and pleasant nature, combined with her generous spirit, make Jenna a terrific addition to our team. She will certainly become a wonderful adult with such a winning combination of talents and traits. Ryan Scherpf Ryan is the type of student who makes Team 5 outstanding. Not only is he kind, respectful and polite on a daily basis, he is always looking for a way to help. This is a consistent personality trait of this young man. Ryan is happy to clean and organize classrooms, showing that he thinks of others and takes pride in our school environment. He was a helpful and enthusiastic volunteer as he assisted in decorating our team's tree at the Festival of Trees. He generously devoted time and energy to making outstanding Christmas ornaments for our Kids Who Care Silent Auction, helping raise money for those in need. We know that Ryan will always be a conscientious, kind contributor to whatever environment he is a part of, be it a school community, athletic team, and more. We are thrilled to have him on team 5. Team 9: Inferno Julia Sherwin
This student was nominated by several of her peers, and the following was written by two of her friends. She’s an extraordinary paradox. Very studious and quiet, but also very take-charge. She is willing to do whatever is necessary to achieve anything. She is very sweet and caring, in and out of class, playing her violin and with her peers, but a winning, shooting athlete on the basketball court. Her ability to bring out the best in anybody not only makes her a great person who lives by the words, “If not me, then who?” but also an outstanding friend. She embodies these wonderful qualities, but she also shows kindness in her own quiet way, without expecting recognition. Team Inferno is so fortunate to have this young lady on team, and we are thrilled to announce Julia Sherwin as December’s Student of the Month. Ryan Linscott This young man just makes us happy to be around him. He is unbelievably thoughtful, kind, and polite. He is one of the hardest-working students we have ever met, and he continually strives to improve upon his work. He loves to learn and has an insatiable sense of curiosity. He takes feedback enthusiastically, using it as a way to strengthen his academic growth. He enjoys playing football and is looking forward to working out with Coach Ball this winter in preparation for the upcoming fall season for Exeter High School. His smile is infectious and his personality is magnetic. We are absolutely thrilled to announce the gregarious Ryan Linscott as December’s Student of the Month.
Shannon Hafey This student was nominated by her peers and her teachers enthusiastically agreed. Her friend writes, “She is caring and helpful. If you are confused in class, she is glad to help you understand. She sets a good example for younger students by being mature. She has a quiet presence on Team 9.” Her quiet leadership is inspiring to her friends and peers in her classes, at lunch, and in free time. She participates in dance, helps neighbors by babysitting, plays the clarinet, is a member of Diversity Club, and is active in her church community. Of special note, she has tolerated Mr. Garstka’s shenanigans with poise and grace since the first day of school. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this student, as she continues to come out of her shell. Team Inferno is absolutely thrilled to announce that Shannon Hafey (a.k.a. “HAFEY!!!!!!!”) is our November Student of the Month. Period 8: 1:20-2:10 PM Air House: Teams 1,7,12 Team 1: Windstorm
Nevaeh Petruzzi This student of the month for Team 1 is an extremely energetic person. She enjoys sports such as soccer, running and other outdoor activities that allow her to burn off some of this energy. She does extremely well in running. She participated on the CMS cross country team this year and also enters various local road races. Even though she likes being active, she is still able to stay seated and focused in class. She has worked very hard on her studies this year and has performed very well. She is also very friendly and helpful to her peers whenever she feels that she can be of assistance to them. In addition, she has made several cards and goody bags for our troops. We hope that she will continue to prosper and find success academically and athletically in the future. Team 1 is proud to nominate Neveah Petruzzi as December’s student of the month. Jacob Copp
This student of the month for Team 1 is a quiet but inquisitive young man. He possesses a great worldly knowledge but still asks very pertinent questions in class to gain an even greater and better understanding of the subject matter. He approaches his work eagerly and methodically and works diligently to complete it. His work effort is outstanding as he strives to achieve perfection on his assignments. He has performed very well this year academically and this is reflected in his high grade point average. He also is extremely helpful to his peers and teachers if they are in need of assistance. This young man recently completed 9 hours of community service for the “If not me, then who? Travis Manion Foundation. For all of these reasons, Team 1 is proud to nominate Jake Copp as December’s student of the month. Team 7: Tornado Alina Castaldy Soft spoken, well-mannered and considerate are just a few easy adjectives to describe this young lady. She is also among the leaders of our team in community service hours. However, she also stands out for having a soft spot in heart for those who need it, being particularly kind, and compassionate and even standing up for those around her who might be a little different than typical. As Aesop states in one of his fables, "no kindness is ever wasted." If that holds true, and her kindness does come full circle, she will have a great future ahead of her. Team 7 is proud to announce Alina Castaldy as student of the month.
Gavin Markey Despite this student being so calm and quiet, he has such a strong presence in the classroom. Other adults in the building have even approached the team to say how impressed they were with him as he worked with others during class. He may not say a lot, but when he does speak up there is thought behind his words and those around him are instantly drawn to what he says. This student is also very compassionate for his peers and is willing to take extra time to work with those students that are struggling. His calm voice and demeanor allows others to feel safe and comfortable. Recently, when students were moved to new seats an adult in the room even mentioned that they would miss this student because of all that he brought to his table. Team 7 is so pleased to recognize Gavin Markey as December’s Student of the Month. Team 12: Hurricane Kylie Riggles
This student is known for her great attitude, out going personality, and her perseverance to go above and beyond in almost every activity she’s involved in. Her course work is meticulous, organized, and often contains both creative and original ideas. She’s known as a great friend who is incredibly giving; whether it be a pen, lip balm, her time, or a much needed snack, she’s the first to offer what she has to those in need. Her classmates and friends report that she’s always willing to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. In addition to her great attitude and disciplined work ethic, she’s self-confident, a snappy dresser with her own style, and well known for her love of and ability to create puns. She’s an athlete playing soccer and participating in dance; she even messes around with the piano and the oboe. This month’s student of the month is well-deserved and long overdue, congratulations Kylie Riggles. Tom Vanderslice Not only does this student bring a sense of integrity, honor, and diligence, to Team 12, he also bring a sense of kindness and sensitivity to both teachers and peers. He is always pleasant and polite, greeting his teachers with a friendly smile and a warm greeting upon entering and leaving the classroom. This student is a hard worker who is motivated to be successful in all that he does. He is unfailing in taking the lead in classroom participation in his English class and can always be counted on to lead off the discussion with his deeper insights into plot, character analysis, and the deeper meanings within fictional text. He is very athletic and is a valuable member of both the CMS soccer and track teams. As an active member of his church, this young man gave up his time, energy, and even his insatiable eighth-grade-boy-hunger in order to generate money for his church’s community service activity, “Thirty Hours of Famine”. It is with great pleasure and pride that Team 12 chooses Tom VanderSlice as this month’s student of the month.
