         Wall mural encourages
          selfie from visitors
                             BY L.A. STORY

There’s nothing like a huge wall mural painted on the side
a local business to gain attention from curious passersby.
The mural is already doing what its creators where hoping
    it would do.
       Draw attention to Corinth.
The painting on Pizza Grocery’s outside brick wall has
certainly drawn attention from those traveling Cruise Street
based on the social media comments.
Then, after one of the concept creators decided to do a live
Facebook post to talk about the mural just before its comple-
tion, the curiosity became a full blown buzz.
The mural is a fun “selfie wall,” according to Ronnie
Sleeper, who is a team member of “Table 3,” of the Strategic
Doing workshop group that came up with the concept.
The workshop project had to be something that would make
Corinth interesting to young people and entice them to want
to become part of the Corinth/Alcorn County community.
With that operating understanding, he said the six groups
were given the opportunity to come up with six projects that
would make an immediate impact on the community and
make it an interesting place for young families and businesses
to want to locate in the area.
       That was the point.
“Our question that we asked ourselves is ‘what would it
look like if Corinth was a interesting town that attracted 21st
Century talent and business? What would we look like?’ So,
that led to a bigger discussion of smaller things we could do
to make it begin to become that city,” Sleeper explained.
“One of the things that popped up, in the group I am part
of, is the selfie wall. Every city seems to have a focal point
that makes people want to take their picture in front of it and
post it on social media and everybody instantly recognizes —

‘Oh my gosh, that’s Nashville. I know Sleeper said his team set a goal
where they are.’” to have 1,000 hashtags for “enjoy-
Sleeper’s team desired something corinth,” but an interesting thing hap-
similar, but wanted their project to have pened on the way to meet that goal.
a distinctive Corinth flavor and tempt- After planning, they put the project
ing enough that people who are active into action. Sleeper noted that no

“What says ‘Corinth’ more than a by local people and paid for by indi-

directly, we just wanted to tip the hat well over 1,000 hashtags stoked the
to what’s been a Corinth mainstay for enthusiasm for Table 3 team mem-
a long time,” said Sleeper. “We also bers. “I don’t think any one of us was

ested in coming and taking their picture already getting before it was even
and putting it out on social media.” finished. That’s the exciting part about
The design is a hand pouring out a it,” said Sleeper. “The goal, of course,
bottle of Coke. Where the beverage is is to make it the kind of location or spot
pouring out of the bottle, people will be where people will go hang out down-
able to stand underneath and it would town ... and make sure before they
look like they are drinking a giant leave to go by and take a picture at
Coca-Cola. the selfie wall and put that picture out
People can be as silly or serious as there on social media with the hashtag
they want to be, but they are “taking in and expose our great city to the big ole
a drink of Corinth and of Coca-Cola.” world out there. It’s really that simple,
The hashtag that his team adopted was but it’s amazing how something so
one the Corinth Area Convention and simple has such a big impact.”
