ARCC Visual Arts
Our philosophy is to provide affordable, high-quality visual art experiences in a supportive environment
that nurtures the development of artistic and creative expression. The ARCC Visual Arts Program builds
upon fundamentals learned at the primary levels and progress to higher skill levels. Classes follow a
sequential curriculum designed for the development of artistic appreciation, skills, knowledge, positive
criticism and professionalism. All classes are taught by professionally-trained artists and educators. The year
culminates with a student-led gallery show and reception highlighting the year’s artwork.
PROGRAM OF STUDY
Creative problem solving skills, self-expression, critical thinking and evaluative skills, along with self-confidence are
lifelong skills and attributes fostered in each ARCC Visual Arts Class.
Students will experience in-depth instruction in two and three dimensional projects, art history and exploration of
new materials, media and techniques. Classes culminate with a student led/hosted gallery show with an opening
reception for the public.
Studio Classes Class Fees
Five art studio classes are available. Class size is limited 8 monthly installments of $40.00 plus tax (includes a

ARCC Music
ARCC Music is cosponsored with the Aberdeen Area Arts Council and is a partnership between the
Aberdeen Recreation & Cultural Center and Northern State University Music Department.
Our philosophy is to provide the highest quality music education at affordable rates in a supportive
environment that nurtures the development of creative musical expression for the young and old.
PRIVATE LESSON PROGRAM
The private lesson program runs September through May. Traditional band and orchestra instruments, harp, guitar
and voice lessons are available for all ages. Lessons are taught by advanced level music majors attending NSU or
qualified teachers from the community at large. The lessons will be held in the ARCC music facilities. Lesson times
available are either half-hour lessons once per week or one hour lessons every other week. A recital opportunity is
available at the end of both semesters.
STRINGS
Both Suzuki and traditional methods are available. It is requested that beginning string students meet with the
instructor, Ms. Nancy Ohnstad, prior to purchasing an instrument. For more information, please refer to the ARCC

Ages Class Fees
All ages. (Some age restrictions may apply for younger $62 plus tax per month. Fee does not include instruments,
students depending on the instrument of choice.) books or supplies. Need-based financial assistance is available.

Lesson Dates
Lessons will begin the week of September 13-17, and run Registration
