Post-Vaccination Infection Data – coronavirus.maryland.gov: • 60.47% of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maryland January 2021 to present were in unvaccinated individuals. • < 6.07% of fully vaccinated Marylanders later tested positive for COVID-19. • 71.36% of Maryland cases hospitalization were unvaccinated individuals. • 71.11% of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Maryland were in unvaccinated individuals.

What we know about the BA.2 Variant of Omicron ► BA.2 subvariant of Omicron is increasing in Maryland. ► BA.2 is about 40% more transmissible than the original Omicron. ► Up to date vaccination and recent infection with Omicron appear to provide protection against severe disease from BA.2 infection. ► BA.2 does not appear to cause more severe illness than the original Omicron.
How to protect yourself against the BA.2 Variant? ► Vaccinations ► Everyone ages 5 and older is eligible and should get vaccinated ► Vaccines are safe, free and effective. ► Get a booster dose if you are eligible. ► Oral Treatment ► Everyone 12 and up who is positive for COVID-19 and who is at high risk for severe illness, including hospitalization and death, should seek care from their doctor or an urgent care ► Medical providers can prescribe Oral or IV treatments for COVID-19 to decrease the risk of hospitalization and death for those with increased risk for severe consequences of COVID-19 ► Oral medications are available at pharmacies, urgent care,and medical provider offices.
How to protect yourself against the BA.2 Variant Masking: IF high risk for severe illness should consider wearing a mask in indoors in public Wear your mask is worn consistently and correctly covering the mouth and nose Medical grade masks are better protection than cloth masks or face coverings Testing: Get tested if ill or were exposed to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 Isolate if you are positive Have at-home rapid test kits readily available in your home
How to protect yourself against the BA.2 Variant Physical Distancing Stay home when you are sick and limit interactions with others. Isolate if you are positive. Hand Hygiene Practice good hand hygiene Especially if interacting with the public or people outside of your household. Businesses Improve ventilation in indoor spaces. Incentivize vaccination of employees. Make masks available to customers and staff.

At-Home Test Kits at Libraries ► CCDoH is working the Charles County Public Library to prevent the spread of COVID-19 ► Free At-Home COVID-19 test kits are available ► Testing kits include two test per box. ► One box per person or two boxes per household will be distributed ► Test kits are available at each library branch for curbside pick-up. ► Test kits are delivered to the libraries weekly depending on shipment arrival. ► Home testing kits are limited. Test Kits and KN95 Masks for Healthcare Providers ► Free At-Home COVID-19 test kits and KN95 masks are available to local healthcare provider practices ► Test kits can be used by providers to give to patients for home use ► They may also be used in the practice for rapid testing; however, they must be provided to the patient free of charge ► Practices interested in a supply of test kits and/or masks for their practice can call the health department to schedule a time for pick up
