SATS (Year 2 children only)- Assessment Information Children will experience practise SATs papers as part of their everyday learning following half term. This will prepare them for the format of formal assessment papers. Sample SATs questions will continue to be weaved into children’s lessons. There will be no pressures of a ‘test’ put onto children and all SATs related activities will be completed in a supportive environment. National SATs will be completed across the month of May 2020. Please refer to the Key Stage 1 Framework document distributed at parents evenings for key objectives for Reading, Writing and Maths. Phonics Screening (Year 1 children only)- Assessment Information In the summer term of Year 1 (June), the children will complete a statutory phonics screening check. This is a short, light-touch assessment introduced by the Government for the first time in 2012 to confirm whether individual pupils have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard. The screening comprises a list of 40 real and nonsense-words (pseudo words), which your child read one-to-one with a teacher. Pseudo words allow the assessment to focus purely on decoding phonic knowledge. As pseudo-words are new to all children, they do not favour those with a good vocab knowledge or large sight word memory. The words in the screening incorporate phonics skills acquired by the children in both Year One and Reception. It is conducted one to one in a quiet room without distractions. Home Learning Children should continue with daily reading practise at home Phonics home learning weekly Larger home learning projects will continue to be provided during longer school holidays Weblinks which support home learning BBC Bitesize Purple Mash RSPB Scratch Science Museum Spelling Shed Super Brainy Beans Timestables Rockstars Beauclerc and Chennestone website ‘Reading Top Tips’ Successful Learners Confident Individuals Responsible Citizens
