Summer 2022 Newsletter COVID-19 Recovery for Young Children New studies by Brown and Columbia Universities are showing that babies born during the pandemic are not keeping up with those born before the pandemic. Both nationally and locally there is a growing concern and evidence that the isolation young children experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic may have stunted some of their normal devel- opment - but we can help with that! We know that developmental delays during the first five years can be repairable, but they often need intervention. Developmental screenings are an important tool for children’s COVID-19 recovery. Parent Connection’s Welcome Baby program sees many first-time parents and parents-to-be in local hospitals and clinics, working to connect them to Just in Time Parenting Information and Parent as Teachers Home Visitation, Families First Home Visitation and Help Me Grow Programs that conduct these important screenings. Parents not already enrolled in these programs who have a concern can access screening tools available online: https://www.asqonline.com/family/a52de4 When screenings are completed online, Help Me Grow will score them and follow-up with parents. If local parents are looking to… * strengthen and grow in their new role by learning about positive, nurturing parenting and child development; * learn to play and interact with their children to promote healthy development; * get connected to community supports and interventions if their child is experiencing developmental delays; …these are additional supports provided by Parent Connection. Parent Connection understands the importance of early childhood development and works to support parents in the healthy growth and development of their children. Healthy development within a child’s first five years is essential as it sets the foundation for that child’s future learning, behavior and health, as well as shaping brain develop- ment, capacity to learn, how to get along with others, and how to respond to daily stress and challenges. So much can be accomplished by parents when they are supported and have access to parenting information and education – and there is a community of support to help! 1810 Appleton Road, Menasha, WI 54952 (920) 739-4226 | 36 Broad Street, Suite 150, Oshkosh, WI 54901 (920) 233-6630 | 607 E.
