WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE LOG CABIN Submitted by Jocelyn Hainsworth The summer’s activities are starting to shape up at the Log Cabin! The Tourism Board met May 17 to discuss ideas and options, and to plan for the coming season. After Covid restrictions tied our hands for so many things last year it’s exciting to be able to offer anything. We still aren’t back to where we were pre-Covid, but things are definitely looking up! Last year, after the roller coaster ride of constantly changing rules finally settled down, we decided to open the Log Cabin but with lower capacity and shorter hours. We begin the 2021 season with the same hours -11:00 until 5:00 – but we will be monitoring whether these hours are adequate and will adjust accordingly. We have the local “drop in for pie” market, and the camping crowd to serve. We welcome your feedback on the best schedule to aim for. Last year was a complete No Go for Canada Day celebrations but for 2021 we do have some plans in the works. It’s still not going to be the usual July 1st but there are a few things that DO YOU LIKE can go ahead. Meals, games and crowds are still off the table but parades are fine so we will be inviting everyone to come and participate in the parade or be a spectator. Normally our BURGERS & FRIES? parades start at 1:00 but we are planning for a later start time this year. Watch for Facebook ads or call the Log Cabin for more information. We will also be ending the day with We make the best in fireworks. Be sure to wave your Canadian flags and wear red and white to get into the spirit! town!! And speaking of spirit, we are also sponsoring a Show Off Your Patriotism contest! We are challenging everyone in Redvers to make their houses and yards a display of how great it is to live in this country. There will be two categories: the prettiest yard, and the best themed Open at 11:30 a.m. yard. Some suggested themes are patriotism (because it’s Canada Day), but also wildlife, Monday & Tuesday open till 8 sports, outdoor activities, or heritage. These are only suggestions to get you thinking – the Wednesday & Thursday sky is the limit, let’s see what you can come up with! There will be prizes too, paid in open till 9 Chamber of Commerce bucks. Friday & Saturday open till 10 Beginning mid July we will also be hosting the Farmer’s Market at the Log Cabin. We are trying out some changes this year, though. We have had requests to change the hours of Sunday open 2 till 9 operation so that working people can take advantage of the market so we have decided to try 11:00 till 2:00 this summer. Since this is over the noon hour we are offering an Thank you for your opportunity to sell smokies and burgers as a fund raiser. Please contact the Log Cabin (452 3276) or myself (452 7066) if you or your group would be interested in making some money. business! There are also plans to have kid’s craft fun activities out at the cabin – outdoors and Covid restrictions adhered to, of course. Times and dates have not been nailed down yet, keep a watch out for more info on Facebook or call the Log Cabin. Meanwhile, we are open, the pies are baking, our local artisans have some beautiful things to sell, and Kaye says she’s missing you all! Drop in to say hi! Sunday, June 20th, 2021

JUNE 2021 HAVEN HAPPENINGS Submitted by Barbara Dennis Spring has sprung here at the Haven. We are ever so fortunate that we are a part of such a caring and sharing community. Just the other day a flat full of very healthy looking and aromatic tomato plants was delivered for our residents to fill one of the raised garden beds. Edgar Cruywels, thank you! Your note said, “Enjoy these tomatoes.” – I believe our gardening residents, and those that enjoy eating fresh tomatoes – will do just that! Ever so grateful to be able to get outside and enjoy the fresh and warmer air, some Haven residents got their hands dirty filling pots and planting seeds. AND not too many days ago The Redvers Lions Club represented by Jade Frecon donated funds to cover the costs of providing WiFi for all the residents for the coming year. Corinne Toms was very happy to accept their donation. The Redvers Wildlife Club covered the costs last year. Technology is a wonderful asset for us all to keep in touch: even more so for those within the Haven walls during these times of unprecedented lock downs. AND when relatives are far away, a face time call to a loved one makes the day that much brighter. Speaking of brighter? Look at these two photos. The residents of each house, Garden View Terrace and Tiger Lily Way each made a sign thanking the health care workers for all they do. Posing for GVT is Pat Reimer: for TLW is Jackie Simms. June the month for Father’s Day and graduations, for weddings and for all things summer. A wonderful time of year
On Friday, May 14th, Jake Slykhuis and Bill Slykhuis of B&A Holdings Ltd. and Tyler Englot & Sharon Lees of GMG Smokers hosted a pulled pork lunch for $10 per plate and all proceeds went towards beautification in Redvers. They raised $1200.00!! Special thank you to B&A Holdings Ltd. And GMG Smokers for hosting this fantastic lunch and thank you to each and everyone that came out to support the lunch!
