SECRETARY’S REPORT Today it gives me pleasure to welcome everyone from Rothes FC to Harlaw Park as we begin the defence of the Breedon Cup. Rothes are having a really good Season and we know we will have to be at our best this afternoon to get through to the next Round. Whilst we were cantering to a 5-0 win at Keith last Saturday they were part of a ten goal thriller at Lossiemouth coming out on top by 6-4. Tuesday saw us lift the Morrison Motors ( Turriff ) Aberdeenshire Shield with a 5-2 win over Banks O’ Dee at Inverurie. As expected the Dee came out of the traps flying and gave us a scare early on but once we settled into our rhythm there was only ever going to one winner. Goals from Mitch Megginson (2), Ryan Stott, Nick Gray and an own goal saw us lift the Trophy for the fourth time. Now it is back to the small matter of defending the Breedon Cup which we won against Formartine United at the Bellslea in April last year. This won’t be easy as we try to juggle this trophy in amongst the twelve league matches we still have to play. It will be horses for courses as they say and john will have to make changes game by game to keep players fresh. One or two picked up niggling injuries on Tuesday night so there could be quite a few changes to the side today as we look ahead to Wednesday night when we face Brora Rangers who are still on the fringes of the title race. Next Saturday we face Rothes again at Inverurie but this time on league business before Nairn County come calling the following Wednesday night. Enjoy today’s match. Duncan Little Club Secretary

JOHN’S VIEWS Today we welcome Rothes to Harlaw Park as we commence our journey in the Breedon Highland League Cup. I must start by reflecting on our Scottish Cup game against Falkirk in the William Hill Scottish Cup. Although we lost the game, what a day for the club with a near 1700 spectator turn out. It certainly whets the clubs’ appetite to progress further within the Scottish Leagues. After losing a goal within the first two minutes, we managed to get ourselves back in the game a minute later through a superb Mitch Megginson goal. We lost two goals in the first three minutes of the second half but the boys showed tremendous character and effort throughout. At halftime, Falkirk would have been delighted with the score even. As you step up the divisions, finer margins separate games and it was a case of Falkirk capitalising on the chances they were presented with. That game was never going to define our season so it’s back to domestic duty today and another tough League Cup encounter. Since the Falkirk game, we’ve managed to navigate a good victory against Keith in the league last Saturday where a great second half performance provided a five-goal victory. On Tuesday night at Harlaw Park, we managed to win the Aberdeenshire Shield by defeating Banks O Dee 5-2. The game itself was tight in spells but overall, we were worthy winners. It’s great to get our first piece of silverware this season also. Please get behind the players today as usual. John PLAY THE COVE RANGERS FC LOTTO Sign up for your chance to win this week’s jackpot! The winner was Scott Clark.
VIEW FROM THE BOARDROOM Today we welcome all directors, committee, players and supporters from Rothes to Inverurie for our scheduled home tie in the Breedon Highland League Cup. Having held our board meeting last week, a big topic of reflection was on our William Hill Scottish Cup game against Falkirk. Although we ended up losing the game 3-1, the entire match day experience was something we can truly learn from. After weeks of preparation, meetings with the police and Inverurie Locos, the final plan was put in place. The game was in a bit of doubt on Friday night and even into Saturday morning but thankfully it was given the green light after an early morning pitch inspection. The level of match day operation for a game such as that is alien to all clubs at our level. However, it does illustrate the work required to put a game of that magnitude on. The policing, stewarding, turnstile operations, fan segregation and boardroom protocol certainly moves up several notches. General feedback from the game itself was very positive from the police and all concerned in terms of ensuring the match day experience was as seamless as possible. I think the majority of the near 1700 crowd certainly enjoyed the day. Although we lost the game, it’s an experience that will definitely stand us in good stead going forward. Last Saturday we were in action against Keith in the league. After a cagey first half where both teams failed to score, John made two substitutions at halftime which certainly sparked a level of performance in the second half we are more used to. Having eventually managed to win the game 5-0, it was great to see five different goal scorers also courtesy of Mitch Megginson, Ryan Strachan, Ryan Stott, Jamie Masson and Jonny Smith. Last Tuesday night we contested the Morrison Motors (Turriff) Aberdeenshire Shield final against Banks O Dee. After a sluggish start to the game where we went 1-0 down after two minutes, Mitch Megginson equalised on the half hour mark before Ryan Stott netted just before the break. Banks O Dee managed to level the score five minutes into the second half but further goals from Mitch Megginson, an own goal from Liam McCall and a Nicky Gray strike two minutes from time sealed a superb 5-2 victory to claim our first silverware of the season. I’m sure most of you will have seen significant progress on the new stadium with recent photos released on social media. It’s great to see things finally taking shape as the floodlights are now installed and with pitch preparation works nearly complete. There’s been a couple of additions to the stadium which I’m sure will lead to supporters enjoying the match day experience even more. Once we are in a position to convey more details on this, we’ll share what we can with the supporters group. You’ll see on the back of today’s programme our next dinner at the Marcliffe on Friday 20th April 2018 will be headlined by Gary Lineker. Again, it’s another admirable speaker we’ve managed to land in terms of his footballing and media career. Please get it touch should you require a table booking as the event will sell out quickly. Looking ahead to the season end, we still have a number of really important games to play. This is the time of the season where pitches are heavy, suspensions kick in and injuries can mount. We just hope that the games continue to get played as planned to avoid any more fixture pile ups. Enjoy today’s game. CRFC Board of Directors
