PART A SINGAPORE BAR COURSE Designed to familiarize graduates of RHT Overseas Scheduled Universities with TRAINING Singapore law so that they can confidently sit for the examination and INSTITUTE practise in Singapore. COMPANY & CRIMINAL LAW RHT Professor Walter Woon is presently David Marshall Professor, Law TRAINING Faculty NUS, teaching Company Law and Criminal Law. He was awarded a University teaching excellence award thrice and a Faculty INSTITUTE award five times. Professor Woon is Editor, Woon’s Corporation Law; author of Walter Woon on Company Law (3rd Ed edited by Tan Cheng Han); and Consulting Editor, Companies Act of Malaysia 2020. He was Dean, SILE 2010-2020 and Chairman, Board of Legal Education 2008-2010. He was also Coordinator, lecturer and examiner in Company Law for SILE 2010-2020. LAND LAW RHT Rajan Menon is one of the founding members of RHTLaw Asia. TRAINING Rajan graduated from University of Singapore in 1971 with Bachelor INSTITUTE of Laws (Honours). He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1973 and is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales. He is also a fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom, Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators and Singapore Institute of Directors respectively. Rajan was conferred the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat, PBM) by the President of the Republic of Singapore and the Friends of Labour Award by the National Trade Union Congress. Rajan’s 43 year career comprises appointments with the Government of Singapore as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel with the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Senior Deputy Registrar of Land Titles and Deeds. He was also the Credit Manager with The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Rajan has considerable experience in the areas of banking, finance and real estate, corporate and commercial work and has advised on several complex and large property and finance transactions. LAND LAW Sandra Han, co-teaching with Mr Rajan Menon, is a Partner at RHTLaw Asia. Her main area of practice is real estate and private clients. Her focus now includes purchases of residential, commercial and industrial properties, loan transactions (involving local and foreign banks). In addition, she handles the sale of residential, commercial and industrial properties, including acting for developers in the sale of properties under construction, and the sale and leaseback of industrial properties to real estate investment trusts. Effectively bilingual, Sandra has acted for China’s property developers in their sale of Chinese development projects, such as the sale of Shanghai Fortune Gardens in Singapore and the sale of Shenzhen’s Sinolink Garden in Jakarta. She also acted for local developer Ho Bee Cove Pte Ltd in their sale of condominium units in The Coast @ Sentosa Cove. She heads the development team handling the sale of the condominium project 8 Riversuites located in Whampoa East/Bendemeer Road. Sandra also advises, negotiates and drafts tenancies and leases for residential, commercial and industrial properties. MS SANDRA HAN Partner, Financial Services & Real Estate, Sandra heads the firm’s corporate leasing team which handles RHTLaw Asia and manages a healthy portfolio of commercial units and offices units. SINGAPORE LEGAL SYSTEM Dr Tan Lay Hong has had 6 years’ civil litigation experience at the Singapore Bar before joining academia at Nanyang Business School, NTU in 1992. She was a tenured Associate Professor at Nanyang Business School for 24 years. She brings with her a wealth of teaching experience, including the learner-centred pedagogy which uses diagnostic questions to deliver the key issues across to the participants. In 2013, she was featured in the Straits Times, Scholars’ Choice as an inspirational professor who “went the extra mile” for her students. She has achieved academic recognition by her publications in The International and Comparative Law Quarterly, The Journal of Corporate Law, The Journal of Trade and Investment and The Australian Law Journal. She has garnered 165 citations for all her articles. Her most recent work is Annotations to the Companies Act, Cap 50 (including the 2014 and 2017 amendments), Thomson- Reuters, 2017. In 2008, she was invited to serve in the Singapore Academy of Law, Continuing Legal Education sub-committee where she introduced the 2-day workshop on derivatives which is well-attended by lawyers and judicial officers. DR TAN LAY HONG From 2018 to 2020, she was a volunteer at the Legal Aid Bureau and LLB (NUS) an instructor at the NUS Law School, Pro Bono and Legal Clinic. EVIDENCE LAW RHT Alexander Woon read law at the University of Cambridge on a President’s scholarship and Overseas Merit Scholarship. He TRAINING subsequently obtained a Masters in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center. During his LLM year, Alexander INSTITUTE was on the Dean’s List, graduated with Distinction, and received three CALI Awards for being the top student in three subjects: Law of Armed Conflict, Global Cybercrime Law, and International Civil Litigation. Upon returning to Singapore, he received Distinctions in Company Law and Evidence Law for Part A of the Singapore Bar Exam. Professional experience Alexander served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor/State Counsel with the Financial and Technology Crime Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (“AGC”). He prosecuted a wide variety of crimes including corruption, white collar crime, technology crime, maid abuse, intellectual property crime, and homicide. He has appeared in both the State Courts and High Court as lead counsel and assisted with cases in the Court of Appeal. Alexander also received specialised technology and cybercrime training as part of the AGC’s Technology Crime Unit. Notably, he led evidence before the Committee of Inquiry into the SingHealth Cyberattack in 2018. Subsequently, Alexander joined the Office of Transformation and Innovation (Judiciary) as Deputy Director, tackling issues ranging from legal strategy, policy and law reform, to promoting cultural change, and developing legaltech products. MR ALEXANDER WOON Former Deputy Public Prosecutor Teaching experience Programme Director, SMU Academy Alexander has taught law to undergraduates at the National University Graduate Certificate in Law and of Singapore and Singapore Management University as adjunct Technology faculty. He is currently the Programme Director for SMU Academy’s Lecturer in Law, SUSS Graduate Certificate in Law & Technology.
