Advanced Training in Oil Tanker Cargo Operations Welcome to Maritime Simulation and Digital Learning (MSDL) section of the Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering. Joining Information – Advanced Training in Oil Tanker Cargo Operations Location: Meet at the Reception of the Maritime Simulation Centre (MSDL) on Ground Floor of the Andrew Mitchel Building at Solent University, East Park Terrace, Southampton, SO14 0YN (See Ground Floor Plan and Access to MSDL on the last page) Start Time: 0900 - Delegates are requested to report to the relevant Location in plenty of time. Refreshments: Lunch is NOT provided in the course fee. Tea/Coffee breaks in the simulation Suite at 1030 and 1500 when tea/coffee are provided. Pre-Course Preparation None. Pre-Requisites/Entry Requirements Full basic training in oil and chemical tanker cargo operations. Candidates must have the Tanker Fire Fighting certificate which meets the requirements set out in tables A-V/1-1-1 and A-V/1-2-1 of the STCW Convention and Code as amended, and be in possession of the appropriate certificate. Please refer to MIN 535 sections 4 and 6, and MSN 1866 for additional information. The course is also available to industry professionals who do not require STCW Certification. Enrolment Prior to enrolment, identity will be checked against a photo identification document. This may be a passport, or a photo driving licence or other document issued by a national or international administration or governmental body. (A student or employer ID card is not normally acceptable.) Delegates will be required to complete an enrolment form for each course that they attend which includes details such as date of birth/next of kin. All parts of the enrolment form need to be completed. Relevant certificates will be checked by Lecturers during the enrolment process. Delegates should bring details of their, Discharge Book, Certificate of Competency (where held) or Passport. These are required for registration purposes but are not included in the individual course certificates, which will be issued at the end of the course on successful completion. 3 WSMSE/FTAOTCOP JI/Apr 2020
*Visa documentation will be checked as appropriate. Attendance For successful completion 100% attendance is required. Certification The successful delegate will be issued with a certificate at the end of the course. Personal details shown on the certificate are taken from the enrolment form completed at the commencement of the programme. It is therefore important that all parts of the form are completed clearly and in full. Clothing/Special Requirements No special clothing is required for this course. However, Cadets must wear Uniform. Course Approval MCA (UK) as being in accordance with paragraphs 3 to 4 of Chapter V Regulation V/1-1 of the 2010 revised STCW Convention and Table A-V/1-1-2 of the 2010 revised STCW Code. Course Aim At the end of the course the student will have the relevant technical knowledge to assume the responsibilities of Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, Second Engineer and any other person with immediate responsibility for cargo operations. Course Objectives The course is aligned with the provisions of Appendix II of IMO ‘Crude Oil Washing Systems’. It covers the introduction to principles, equipment and design, generalised crude oil washing procedures, associated procedures, safety, checklists, regulatory enforcement procedures, maintenance of plant and equipment. Course Structure and Content The course is aligned with the provisions of paragraphs 3 to 4 of Chapter V Regulation V/1-1 of the 2010 revised STCW Convention and Table A-V/1-1-2 of the 2010 revised STCW Code. Further Information General Joining Information – Travelling to Warsash School of Maritime, Science & Engineering, Solent University, East Park Terrace, Southampton Solent University is centrally located making it a great place to study and easy to get to. It is a 10-minute walk from Southampton Central Station and a short walk from the parks, cafes, shops (including West Quay) and cinemas. Southampton is just 75 miles (120km) from London, with excellent road links. From the North, London and the Home Counties, the M3, M27 and A34 provide fast, direct road links to the city centre. The A36 is the major route from the West Country, Bristol and Wales. From the East, follow the A27/M27 and depart at Junction 8. Getting there by plane From Southampton International Airport: There are regular buses, trains and taxis from the airport to the centre of Southampton. Buses and taxis are right outside the entrance; whilst the train station is located a couple of minutes’ walk away and is called Southampton Airport Parkway. The airport is approximately 4 miles from Solent University and train services to the City Centre run frequently with journey times of ten minutes. Taxis are available from outside the terminal but need to be booked at the taxi desk inside the airport. From Heathrow Airport by Train: Take the Rail air coach link from Heathrow airport to Woking train station. Services to Southampton Central operate from Woking. The total journey time from Heathrow to Southampton is approximately 2 hours. The Rail air service runs every 30 minutes and picks up from all four terminals. The cost of a standard tick for a single (one-way) journey is approximately £35. For more information on the service, please visit the South Western Trains website www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey From Heathrow Airport by Coach: The National Express coach services operate from the bus station at Heathrow Airport to Southampton Coach Station. On direct service the average journey time is 1 hour and 50 minutes. The cost of a standard tick for a single journey is approximately £20. Discount coach cards are available for students and young people. For more information on services to Southampton and discount coach cards, visit www.nationalexpress.com . From Gatwick Airport by Train: Train services operate between Gatwick Airport and Southampton Central the average journey time is 2 hours, and a standard single ticket is approximately £30. From Gatwick Airport by Coach: National Express coach services operate from Gatwick to Southampton Coach Station, via Heathrow (coach changeover). From London Stansted Airport by Train: Rail services operate from Stansted Airport to Central London via the London Underground. Direct services to Southampton operate from London Waterloo. The average journey time is 3 hours and 30 minutes, and a standard single ticket costs approximately £46. From London Stansted Airport by Coach: National Express coach services operate from the coach station at Stansted Airport to Southampton via Heathrow and Central London (coach changeover). The average journey time is 4 hours. A standard single ticket costs approximately £30 Getting there by Train Southampton Central Station: is served by direct trains from and to many cities across the country, including London, Birmingham, Oxford, Bristol, Leeds, Brighton and Manchester. London Waterloo is a 1 hour and 20 minutes journey to Southampton Central, passing Southampton Airport Parkway on the way. For other locations, train times and information, please use the National Rail Journey Planner www.nationalrail.co.uk Walking to Campus from the Central Station: It’s a 10 minute walk to the University Campus, turn right if you exit via Platform 1 and turn left if you exit Platform 4 and walk up the hilly footpath towards the Civic Centre Building (large white stone building with clock tower). Then follow Civic Centre Road and New Road until you reach East Park Terrace with Solent University ahead of you. Taking a taxi or bus from the station: It is a ten minute taxi-ride to the campus, and there are waiting taxis at the exit via Platform 4. Getting there by Coach National Express runs a coach service from many UK towns and cities to Southampton. For more information please visit www.Nationalexpress.com . Travelling by Bus The campus is served by several city bus companies operating a wide variety of routes in and around Southampton. The majority of buses stop in the city centre by West Quay, Palmerston Park (behind Primark), the Civic Centre and the High Street (Above bar Street). Metered taxis at airports may be expensive so pre- booking is advisable. Parking Cars – There is no parking available at the University Campus. However, there are various pay and display car park spaces nearby. Southampton has 42 car parks, all City Council car parks are open 24 hours a day and charges apply seven days a week (except Christmas Day and Easter Sunday). Health and Safety Health and Safety information is on display throughout the campus and students are expected to comply with this. CCTV Solent University (SU) uses CCTV and audio recording in some of its simulator and classroom suites to enhance the teaching and learning experience. The areas where recording takes place are clearly marked and staff will indicate if recording is likely to be used. All recorded data is held securely and is only accessed by authorised personnel. Requests for access to data can be made via staff members. If you do not wish to have data that includes you recorded through classroom/simulator CCTV systems, you are requested to inform he member of staff conducting the lecture/training before it commences. SU also uses CCTV systems in public places across all campuses (including satellite sites, for crime prevention purposes or for detection of incidents/crime only, for which there is a separate policy. For more information see the relevant sections of CCTV use on the SU Portal. No-Smoking Policy SU operates a no-smoking policy within buildings and an advisory no-smoking zone of 5 metres from any doors or windows in order to protect everyone from the effects of tobacco smoke. Smoking is therefore not allowed in any buildings and is only allowed in designated areas/shelters which are clearly marked or in areas outside 5 metres from doors and windows. Staff and students found smoking outside designated/allowed areas will be asked to sop or move.
